25:05 that is a very specific and poignant reference to Commanche mysticism. Whistling during the night is seen as inviting the evils and demons of the night into your presence. So when she whistles, she KNOWS that there is a demon on the way, and why she said "you can't see it, but I'm killing you." Really nice touch in the movie and story.

What's also interesting is that the native indians have stories about getting their wisdom from the sky people. Like all the stuff they believe in came from people in the sky. And when you hear some of it you sort of go, eh okay. Like the sky people landing and coming down to talk to them and so on. That's a bit diffrent to the white mans stuff over the decades.

Again, I know someone probably already explained this but:
    - The helmet has 3 laser targeting beams
    - The arrow bolts fly where the lasers are targeting
    - She set up the helmet in that area so it would target him when she lures him to the mud
    - He didn't know the helmet was in the vicinity (and thus didn't know the lasers would activate) he thought the arrow bolts would fly straight without targeting. Instead the bolt shot out of the gun and flew all the way around to where the laser was targeting: His head

Third, he watched the arrow change direction and had plenty of time to react especially when you consider the fact that his reflexes are fast enough to catch a snake mid strike

The predator's mask has the targeting system for the darts built in. They hit whatever the lasers are pointing at. This is a young predator likely on it's first hunt so it was incredibly reliant on it's tech and never trained to aim without help of the lasers. Naru took his mask and set it off to the side pointing at the mud pit. So when it fired at Naru and missed, the dart came back around at what the laser was pointing at, his head.

I don't think the predators will come back to slaughter them, but maybe show respect to the person who managed to kill one of them.
She may even give them the gun in exchange for something else, just because the predators has the gun does not mean they got it violently.
The predators have their own code when it comes to the hunt, and there are many ways they can explain the gun ending up in the predators hands so the writer did not fuck up anything.

For whatever reason, it's not just a matter of selecting a different audio track. I also really like the choice not to subtitle the French because it makes our experience more like hers.
It just occurred to me that the filmmakers could have played with language(s) if they chose to include the Predator's mimicry ability. But then also, would that kind of thing land if they had the Predator mimic the untranslated French? Dunno.

The Predtors are called Yautja from the planet Yautja Prime. They are a species that doesn't need resources. They have a tribal like ranking system based on their kills. The Yautja are game hunters that's why the predator didn't kill the girl when she stepped on the bear trap. It made her easy Prey and the idea of the predator visiting other planets is the thrill of the hunt. The highest ranking Yautja have killed things like queen Xenomorphs or aliens from the movie Aliens. Xenomorphs are actually the Yautja main adversary because they too are stealthy hunters and move quickly.

I've probably watched Prey, after my initial viewing, almost 20 times now through watching reaction videos. It's funny to see almost every one of the creators go, "If the dog dies...". It's also great to see the vast majority gushing over how good the movie was, the leads, score, cinematography, etc.
BTW... watching Prey in the Comanche language version is even better as you get more out of the dialogue. The French is not subtitled in either, but, it's pretty basic dialogue and you can figure it out just by the situation pretty much. "I want to kill her", "No no, let's use her as bait"... or "shit"... "It's coming"... "demon"... stuff like that.
As for the targeting helmet. By watching and rewatching the movie, what I've come up with is that activating the dart gun automatically activates the targeting regardless of it is wearing the helmet or not. What it cannot do when not wearing the helmet, is split the targeting beams as it did with the brave so, we see at the end, the three points are in triangle form; the basic target setup.
As for the darts themselves, they are guided to the target by the lasers. Magnetic? Maybe? We have ordnance in the US arsenal that does the same thing and are called "smart bombs". So, not out of the realm of reality, just... exaggerated. Point laser on target, fire, and darts fly to the laser point. Naru sees this throughout the fight with the braves and Taabe fight, as she sees the laser dots and where the darts land.

If people wanna gush on the movie, good for them. The action is great (mostly), the score is good, cinematography is amazing.. but the writing is garbage and the acting is weak asf. The final fight between Naru and the Predator is also laughably bad.

      - but the writing is garbage
The writing/dialogue was... handholding. That I agree with 100%. Then again, given some of the comments about the movie, yeah, for some, you have to hold their hand.
      - the acting is weak
Here I disagree. Taabe's actor, Dakota Beavers, this is his first role. And, I think he nailed it. Not oscar worthy, but, definitely not horrible. Amber Midthunder, I think, nailed it, as well. The others? Were ok. This isn't Godfather level by any means. But, definitely not horrible.
      - The final fight... is laughably bad.
Again, I disagree. I think it pulled all of the elements shown throughout the movie into one final climax; the mud bog, the darts and it's targeting system, that her plan(s) work, and on the back of that using the tree, her fighting style of get in, do damage, get out. It also brought in elements from the original; using spike traps, pulling the predator into one position for the final kill. They even did the callback of "come on, do it" only leaving out the "kill me". You can't love the original final fight and hate Prey's if you base it only on HOW it played out as both follow the same elements.

Yes, the acting is bad. I just got done watching The Last Samurai again tonight and it's CLEARLY night and day, not a shadow of a doubt. Kristen Stewarts Native American cousin much.
The final fight doesn't work if you take away her Matrix powers. If she isn't being lifted up on pullies or falling on crashmats, if she was just a regular human being, the Predator could have punched her in the face once, she falls back, hits her head and she's KOed. Dutch barely survived a hand to hand brawl and HE could have knocked her out with a single punch. She should have never stood a chance but hey, it's 2022, we can't have a woman be shown as weak. We gotta pander to the feminists and have every girl be a Matrix Karen, always taking charge and being invincible

Comments suggested the Northern Great Plains, which includes the southern parts of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, but the characters apparently are Comanche, which doesn't quite fit as they were typically from the South Plains. But with the filming taking place around Calgary, it must fall into the "just one of those things" category, that you hope people don't notice. Quick sands are not a myth, I fell into one when I was a kid and it was terrifying. Your natural instinct is to try to support your feet but then you sank deeper. Then your next instinct is to swim, but every limb you move gets you deeper instead of to the surface.
The trick is to get to a horizontal position and open your arms and legs so that your weight gets distributed. Breath carefully, keep the panic away, and move butterfly style towards the dry land.
When you know for sure that you are gonna die, your mind turns much colder. When I accepted death, panic kind of disappeared, I was able to think and I got out of there following that reasoning.
It's weird how hope can get you killed. Without hope, the fear of death kind of diminishes.

How would you get into the middle of it to start with? I agree with the the technique, but I would think once you stepped into it, you'd be at the edge. It's amazing how few people die in quicksand. Actually, it never happens.

The arm shoots out the arrow, it then tracks the laser coming from the mask. No matter where you point the arrows, they will always follow the spot marked by the mask. In this case, he was unaware that the mask was hidden behind him so when he activated the arrow, thinking it would fly straight without the guidance of the mask, but instead made a full circle and killed him because the lasers were pointing at him. Very smart girl

There'd a story in the drawings during the credits. It recaps the movie with an additional scene with the drawings.
