So, the new consoles can output up to 120 Hz. This can be set manually on the Xbox Series X, but not so much on the PS5. However, many monitors that support higher refresh rates only support those refresh rates on the DisplayPort inputs, such as my Samsung Odyssey G9, and have a cap of 60 Hz on the HDMI input. The adapter in this video allows you to connect your HDMI output from your console to a DisplayPort input on your monitor, allowing you to take full advantage of your monitor refresh rates. No time stamps since this video is straight to the point. Thank you for watching, and consider subscribing!

Great video! Straight to the point and still with intro/outro under 3 minutes. Also gave some very useful ""trivia"" about HDMI not always delivering the best possible resolution and frame rate -which helped me with another issue I was just facing. Keep it up
Thank you!
Had been looking around for a proper answer if this was possible or not and didn't find one until I found this, thank you so much! Straight to the point and good explanation, amazing job brother
Thank you!
@DocValentino I read it'll still only be 60hz even with an adaptor.
@@TheoFennelim already 120hz without the adapter so thats false. The adapter allows for 120hz AND 1440p on console. And of course the monitor has to be capable of supporting those specs.
This is a short video with all the information we need, great job dude!
Thank you! I’m learning that straight and to the point is the best approach for a video. I plan on trying to stick to that. Sometimes it’s easy to start getting too wordy.
Is there any input delay from the adapter? And it is capable of 120hz right even though it says 60hz on Amazon

do you know if i can get 120hz from my macbook pro through a LG C1 tv with a cable?
Thank you! I appreciate it! I’ll check out your channel when I get a chance. It’s a lot of work to keep a channel going and growing. Keep it up!
DocValentino, thanks for the video. I would like to add that what you're looking for is an "HDMI to DisplayPort" adapter. Cords and adapters are not always bi-directional, so don't pick 'DisplayPort to HDMI'. Next watch for old DisplayPort 1.2 adapters as they will give you issues. Instead look for 1.4 or better yet 2.0. The G9 only needs a DP 1.4 but 2.0 is backwards compatible. Last, I've contacted both Microsoft and Samsung to confirm and they were both useless. RUclips and Reddit, FTW.
4k@60hz only?
Is there any adapters that can do 4k@120 through DP 1.4
Thank you!!! That exactly what I needed to know. My kids pc is getting 240 but his ps5 is getting 60 and know I know why mine is only getting 60hz.

You can't with this, you'd need that to do that!
If I got a DP Adaptor what Hdmi would i have to plug into it to get 1440p @144hz
Does it support hdr?
Hey man I purchased the adapter on the link for my 32inch 240hz sceptre monitor to connect to my ps5 but it is not working. I also have the screen and video setting resolution on automatic and 120Hz output set to Automatic. But it is not working. 🤦🏽♂️ I am still capped at 1080p and 60Hz🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️. Is there something I am doing wrong. I also noticed the one you have linked on the description is not the one you show on the video. Somebody please help🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
I have a ASUS ROG P248q that only supports 60hz on hdmi but 180hz on dp, I bought an hdmi to dp adapter, everything worked fine until I went into a game and enabled 120hz, when I enabled it my screen just goes black… Please anyone, I am desperate I don’t have any money to buy a new monitor… Is there any sort of fix? So I can play on 120hz?
It says my DP isnt picking up a signal even tho its a HDMI > DP ends.
It's 1440 P at 120 FPS looking at your Amazon link it says 1900 by 1200 at 120fps? Wondering if the console will actually render at that or go to 1080 P. Anyways thank you for the video I just ordered one of these wires last week a different one. I just got it and it does not work, going to send it back and order this one
Hello, thank you so much for your help! I have the odyssey ultra wide monitor. I got it at Costco I want to connect my Xbox and my apple MacBook Eyre. I’m just trying to figure out which one I should use the HDMI input for and watch what I should use the display port for? Thank you so much for your help! Right now I have been switching back-and-forth my HDMI cable every time lol I really need to have both connected. I found a RUclips video a while back that had a great cable recommendation and I should’ve got it back then and I never did. Hi pls tell me anyone if it works with the ps5 as well?
@@itsjustsimply8154 since making this video, I have seen mixed reviews on it working or not. It’s been a couple years now. At the time, I tested it on my PS5 and monitor with Fortnite, and it worked. Amazon has a great return policy, so no real risk in giving it a try.
I got one of those adapters and my monitor still says 60 hz?

So if I buy a monitor with display port and this it would connect with my ps5 with 2.1?
I bought the product and set it up correctly with my ps5. It runs 1440p at 120hz but the screen rapidly goes blank and is pretty much unplayable. How do it fix this?
Don’t do 1440p
Can this adapter fix ghosting on my koorui gn07 monitor? Its ips and this shouldnt have ghosting with ips. + I have a soup image with hdmi 2.0 because series doesnt support with that hdmi 1440p 120hz.
I have a ps5 this did work for me! But it won’t say 120hz in settings. My screen will go black turning into the higher frames and it’ll range from the first few minutes i plays 120-140fps. For my settings I have HDCP off Prioritize performance in BOTH GAME SETTINGS AND CONSOLE SETTINGS. and 120Hz on Automatic.
Same problem have you fixed it?
The screen just goes black and doesn’t display nothing pls help me, anyone?
I plugged it in exactly how you did and it didn’t work.
Thank you for the feedback. I’m sorry it didn’t work for you.
So do you have to buy a display port cable.? Or do you just need a hdmi cable and the display port adapter for it to work.
Yes.. you do also need a DisplayPort cable. Most monitors come with one.
Really helpful!
Please how can i get 120hz at lesst from my series x with this monitor
I was looking to run 4k 120hz but I tried other adapters and I can only run 1440 120hz anyone have a 1.4dp to hdmi 2.1 adapter?
How long is the hdmi cable? Can I put the usb in the front of the ps5 and the hdmi will still reach the back? Let me know please
thank you for being very straight forward with great instruction on how to use the adapter, Great vid
Hey if I buy this will this unlock the settings ALLM and VRR for the graphics on my console
I got a hdmi to DisplayPort cable but what I plug in my ps5 it just says no signal any suggestions?
So I just got a new LG 48" oled monitor and I'm using an Xbox series X. Is there any advantage to getting HDMI 2.1? Can I use that in a display port?
Welp let's hope this works for me. Just ordered it and a displayport cable, wish me luck lol.
You tell me. You already have your "likes". Now I hope it works with a series S and a monitor that can run up to 180Hz.
@@elradhikhal5599 i guess I have my likes? Don't really care about 1080p, I can run that with my old monitor on my series x. I wanted 1440p on my ps5 says it's not supported. But I can run 1440p on my series x... Makes sense I guess.
Very interesting 🤔 does the monitor show the 1080p@120hz on the ps5 menu too? , liked the explanation 😎👍🏼
Thank you for watching and for the question. I apologize for a delayed response. The answer to this is somewhat not straight forward, because it will vary per game.. The PS5 will need to be on performance mode.. then the game needs to support 120 Hz. This is because there is no setting on the PS5 to manually set the output to 120 Hz, and the setting is going to be in-game for those that support it. I tested this with 2 games.. CoD Black Ops: Cold War and Fortnite. The in-game settings for CoD would not allow me to select 120 Hz at all, so no go for that one. Fortnite, however, did allow me to select 120 Hz, and while Fortnite is running, if you go to Settings>Screen and Video>Video Output>Video Output Information, it shows the Resolution as 1920 x 1080 - 120 Hz. So to make that long story short, the answer is yes, but it depends on the game.
So the adapter did not allow you to play any Call of Duty game in 120fps?
@@DocValentino so that’s not 1440p 120hz? U were only able to get 1080p 120hz?
Ok, so I don't need this cause I have the same monitor it has a 2.1 hdmi port and I have the hdmi cable for it, I was hoping this will make any game at 120hz. Glad to bump to this video didn't waste my money.
Would this display port adapater work on the old gen Xbox ?
Yep!
I can still only achieve 60hz at 1440p on my ps5 my monitor is 144hz monitor to

Hey buddy, would this cable work for an ultrawide 49” (5120x1440)?
Thanks
Does this support 1920x1080 144hz
I'm using a jailbroken PS3 with upscalers, would the PS3 benefit from this cable?
I doubt it, but it will still give you connection type flexibility.
I have a brand new Lg Ultragear 165hz, and I’m using the same adapter as you. My screen keeps going back and forth with the display port cable attached to the adapter, (playing on PS5) how do I resolve this issue?
Any updates? I'm buying the same monitor.. with an adaptor will I be able to get 120 at 4k with the adaptor ??
Can anyone help me? It still doesn’t work.
PS5 is HDMI 2.1 …. That’s was the issue i have. Does ur adapter work for my dilemma?
Bro its doesn't work i just got the active adapter and a 1.4 dp
What about the latency? I’ve heard adapters add latency since they have to actively convert the signal.
i’m a little late. got the adapter and the monitor still saids 60hz but it’s connected to the display port. (i’m on ps5)
Why does my game go to a black screen after I switch games it changes my resolution?
Mine isn't working, it just turns into a black screen whenever I get into a 120hz compatible game with performance mode activate
Monitor should be able to display 120hz through displayport since it reaches 180hz when using my pc
I heard these devices get really warm. Like dangerously warm. How is it for you?
I have actually never physically touched it while gaming. I'll have to remember to see. I have an infrared temp sensor I can even get a reading with.. maybe I'll try gaming for an hour or so, and check it when I get a chance. Thank you for bringing it up.
@@DocValentino have you tried it. My one and only concern is if this method really did something bad to the xbox itself.
@@Sora5024 I had a chance to run my PS5 on it for a little bit, but I wasn’t gaming, just going through menus and idle. I didn’t even measure the temp, because the warmth from it wasn’t enough to be of concern. I still haven’t been able to game on it at 120Hz for an extended timeframe to get a good heavy load gauge on it. I will try to get that done this week. I have just been busy with starting a new job and everything, but it’s on my list 😊
I have a Acer Predator XB273K and I capped at 4k 60 if i use an adapter will I get Vrr 1440p 120?
It claims to be capable of 2560X1600 @120Hz which would be slightly more pixels than 1440p, but VRR doesn’t seem to be supported. I had to click on the product link to see if it was still valid (video is a year old), and the product itself appears to have been updated since. The best thing about buying on Amazon is that they have a great return policy if it doesn’t do what you want it to.
I didn't quite understand what this adapter is for. To be clear, having a Samsung Odessey G5 monitor can I use 4k 120hz on my ps5?
This is only if you A) Want to connect to a DisplayPort input (If you have something else occupying the HDMI and don't want to switch cables around... although I recommend an HDMI switch if that is the case) or B) Your monitor doesn't have the capability to run at 120Hz or above on the HDMI input... For example, my HDMI input on my G9 model seems to cap out at 60Hz, the other settings are ghosted out when using that input. My other ultrawide monitor caps out at 100Hz on one of the HDMI inputs, and 60Hz on the other two. I think the G5 can support 120Hz on the HDMI input, but the PS5 for sure cannot do 4K at 120Hz... only 1080p.
what if i buy hdmi to displayport, will that work ?
Are there any cheaper adaptors? I dont really care about it being able to run at 120hz
Whenever I use a HDMI to DP adapter on my monitor for the ps5 it doesn’t register anything plugged in and just says no signal.

Hey so i have a ps4. The USB is in the front & the DP is in the back. Is the wire long enough to connect to both & my 144hz monitor??
Thank you for the question. I’m not sure if it can reach to the back and front of a PS4. I’m away from home for the weekend, but I can check when I get a chance.
@@DocValentino i will be back again for this answer . I hope this works on ps5 also.

Finally! Thanks for supporting the channel my friend.
For my series s I only have the hdmi. I need to buy the display port and the adapter. So I just connect the adapter to the Xbox then the DisplayPort to the adapter then the other end of the DisplayPort to the monitor ?
Yep! And hope it works. Doesn’t work for everyone.
I bought the same thing just not the same company and it works until i start a game in r6 and then the monitor just shows nothing do you think it will work with your adapter?, i got a240 hz dp monitor???
I’m not sure. It seems like it goes hit or miss for some people. I’m guessing the combination of the actual DisplayPort cable and monitor being used in tandem with the adapter all play a part in the reliability. I’ve seen a decent amount of feedback from people getting a black screen.. namely when using it at higher refresh rates.
How did you update your odyssey g9 to unlock 240hz
I didn’t. It will only be an option when using just one DisplayPort input. If you use PIP or the HDMI input, it won’t let you go to 240Hz.
COME TO BRASIL MEN!!!! THANK YOU BROTHER! I have a ASUS ROG PG258Q with the same problem , hdmi is limited to 60hz, now i go to buy the adapter!
do you know a splitter from display port to hdmi for use 120hz? i have Sceptre C34 it’s count with 2 display port and 2 hdmi but i want to use a display port switcher for change between mac and ps5
I just received this adapter and it looks like it doesn't work wirh 1440p and 120hz with the series X, my monitor is a GameFactor mg701 (it's mexican brand so you prob won't find it) it only supports 1440p and 165/120hz with DP so I thought this adapter would work for me, it didn't, not only that but it feels fake as the USB that's supposed to power the adapter is useless, I can unplug it and it still works.
Would this work if I just bought an hdmi to display port cord?
Unfortunately, all I have ever found are directional from DisplayPort to HDMI. If you find one that works the other way, I’d be happy to spread the word.
What do I plug into the DisplayPort and where do I buy one
Will this work with 1080p as well? Monitor is viewsonic vx2405-p-mhd
Hey sorry I’m a year late😅, I was thinking of buying the adapter for my ps5 but it says it’s only hdmi 2.0? Don’t you need hdmi 2.1 for 120hz? Please correct me if I’m wrong
My hdmi went out on Xbox series x … can I use a display port from Xbox to tv or vice versa ?
Unfortunately not. If the HDMI port on the Xbox is bad, it needs to be repaired. Where this would have been helpful is if you were using a monitor that the HDMI port went bad on, then you could use this adapter to connect to the DisplayPort cable on the monitor.
I have the same adapter but it does not work with my ps5
They sell display port to hdmi adapters without the usb bs for 8 dollars at target
Yes, they are directional from DisplayPort to HDMI only, not the other way around.
Would this work for ps5 on an asus tuf gaming monitor
I wouldn't see why not, but I don't personally have that monitor to verify. I apologize for the delayed response, and appreciate your question.
Do you get any input delay?
Hey - would I be able to max out my BenQ EX3203R? I've just got the new Xbox series X and I can't get 120hz on it, as it doesn't support it so it claims. My monitor can max at 144h, again another claim. I haven't ever had a computer that is powerful enough. I paid £500 for this Montour two years ago for 4k and 120hz! I can't even get 1440p 120hz!! Only 1080p and 120hz. Awful like
You won’t be able to max out the monitor capabilities, but it could help you get closer. I have seen some people experiencing black screen issues using the adapter at 120Hz, so I’m guessing some monitors just don’t like the signal coming out of the adapter. Luckily, Amazon has a great return policy if it doesn’t do what you need it to.
@@DocValentino I've used the Quick Kit and it says 'unsupported model' so frustrating!! BenQ don't support it..clearly wipes their hands on it. I've had it two years mate. Gone by quick.
Maybe I could use a DP adapter with HDMI and that'll fix the issue slowing me to have more Hz? I'd be happy with 120hz and 4k or even 1440p and 4k. However, noticed lots of games allow you to chose performance or resolution or ray splitting or something.

Really need this answered 👏🏽
VRR refreshes based off of the signal coming in… If the PS5 is 120Hz, the refresh rate on the monitor would match. HDR gives you deeper blacks, but not necessary to have a great looking picture. You should be able to set the monitor to 144Hz with the PS5 putting out a 120Hz signal.
