    Looks great! Jerry! You mentioned stripe! I did custom vinyl stripping for 24 years under the 3M Trim-Line name / franchise. I miss it sometimes as to the designing and creating custom creations. Getting a bit too old to keep up with the pace. So glad I am up to other things now.

    Hi Jerry, awesome video! When you apply the base coat do you put the coats on wet, like you do with clear? Usually how many coats of base? Three? What about clear coat? Three ?

    • @LakesideAutobody
      @LakesideAutobody  9 месяцев назад +1

      The base coat can be sprayed somewhat dry - it doesn't have to be sprayed wet like clear coat. Spraying basecoat dry will not cause orange peel. Normally, you'll spray 2-3 coats of base and 2-3 coats of clear. More often though, three base & three clear :)

    Did this just the other day... Somehow I must have nudged my fluid knob and when i went to spray it just soaked the panel.... Ha to wait and dust it but then had to bkend it across the panel because tgat area was much darker now.... Pain in the biscuits but saved the job and it was totally unnoticeable.

      @@LakesideAutobody LoL 😂😂😂.... Hey what exactly is base coat converter used for????

    • @LakesideAutobody
      @LakesideAutobody  9 месяцев назад

      I've never used it but I believe is converts various paints to a basecoat so that you can do multiple color coatings like stripes, multi color graphics, etc quickly (dries fast). This allows you to do the job and clear coat it in one day instead of days. That's my understanding at least 😊@@gladememmott3001

    Nice job and great video. One of my neighbors is a young guy that's started to buy, fix up and sell used cars on the side. He's a pretty smart kid paying his way through law school doing this. I've painted a few things for him and he's started to try doing some body and paint work himself. Almost as often as I give him advice, I also tell him to watch your videos. He has and thinks you're a great instructor.

    So if I’m spraying base I don’t need to make sure I’m seeing a nice even reflection like clear ? I usually do look for even uniform wet reflection but on hoods I usually get my signature subtle tiger stripes. I’ll give it a shot next time and go for even coverage guess like mat finish and see how it comes out. Will save in paint $$$ for sure. Thx for ur vids and merry Christmas!!

    • @LakesideAutobody
      @LakesideAutobody  9 месяцев назад

      You do not have to spray base wet - that's what makes it much easier than SS metallic paints. Merry Christmas to you too my friend :)

    • @LakesideAutobody
      @LakesideAutobody  9 месяцев назад

      Initially, I was just trying to "color in" the sealer. Basically that area up there only needs one light coat and it's ready for clear. No sense using up paint when it's not necessary - $$$ 😊

      The same method is used for single stage and BC/CC. With SS, go around twice on the last coat. The 2nd being the mist coat :)

  • @timgiesin4025

    I have a question
    What would cause tiger stripes or a pulsating spray pattern in the stroke of your spraying

    • @LakesideAutobody
      @LakesideAutobody  2 месяца назад +1

      Sometimes too wide of a fan or pattern or spraying too wet. Base coat can be sprayed a bit dry then get the shine with the clear. Mottling is a very common issue that many painters deal with so you're not alone. If you see tiger stipes or mottling back off and give it a mist coat after about 20 seconds.

    Can I ask a quick question. Got some fenders ready to shoot. Just finished and Im whipped! whats the window of time after finish sanding? I mean If I get it all ready to shoot tonight (finish sanded with 400) can I shoot tomorrow morning without resanding? Just clean and go.

      I replied yesterday but I think something went wrong - sorry. You can spray it the next day - just clean and go. You can hit it quick with a scuff pad if worried about any oxidation, etc. 🎄🎅🎉

    • @LakesideAutobody
      @LakesideAutobody  9 месяцев назад +1

      Your skin absorbs the poisonous chemicals from the overspray - the suit prevents that. Not all but more than if you were painting in a t-shirt 😊

      Yes, I was referring to single stage Dupont Centari acrylic enamel.
      A friend of mine showed me the 'add more reducer and hardener, crank up the pressure and fog the whole car' trick.
      When he first did it i thought he REALLY screwed up...as the finish was dull with hardly any shine.
      He said give a while (as he was cleaning out the gun)...
      After the 'fog cleared' and the gun was all clean, we went back into the spray area and the paint job looked amazing!!! Almost like hand rubbed lacquer it was soooo smooth and glossy!!!
      Ever since he showed me that trick, one a single stage metallic job, that's what i do.
