    I got so tired of trying to figure out what to do with my hair. It was exhausting thinking about what my next style was. What weave I’m going to wear.I came to realize that I was seeking the male gaze that’s why I didn’t wear my natural hair anymore. I get more looks and compliments with plastic hair on my head than with my own hair. A man once told me that I look 70% better with a blonde straight plastic wig. I was devastated . I had to realize that my face doesn’t change and that people associate beauty with long hair. I’m free now with my natural hair and it’s so freeing and I feel great being me. Now I find people say oh you should do lashes since your hair is so short. I’m like can we just stop with the extensions of any kind please!

      I'm sorry that you were devastated over something a random man said. it hurts more when it's own our people i.e. family and friends but my family and friends are used to me by now...I do whatever is easiest and mentally uplifting for me at the time. Sometimes I get mentally tired styling my natural hair so I allow myself additional hair. However, my favourite style is to run around in my afro puff. Lol! But my trichologists said that it's too drying for my hair and scalp to do that all year round. so my compromise is to wear that in the summer for 12 weeks. Also when it get below 5 degrees Celsius in winter, I be reaching for my hair hat..my head is cold. Lol! I like blond with black roots...not all over blond. They can get loss with the lashes. I tell them I like swimming so no lashes or permanent extensions that I can't swim with!! I get a type of hairloss/alopecia from being a Thalassemia carrier, living somewhere with environmental stress and having neurodivergent stress. At this stage in my life, my physical and mental health is more important than my hair. If I get hair loss from cancer or menopause in my 40s or 50s or 60s I know what to do and can be confident bald ( might need a wig for winter though) or with a hair piece. I feel free with natural hair too...free to jump in the pool or the sea. I've never been in a lake or river but there's still time!! I can just pack a backpack and run off to the lake for a few days if I wanted to and not worry about my hair!!

      A blond buzzcut is like my dream cut...but I live somewhere too cold to attempt that. Lol! I think if I still lived in the tropics I would have shaved it all off by now. I shaved off half last summer but it has grown back to keep my head ( if not my ears) warm in winter and have something to attach my winter wigs too. I dated this one white guy who was like "I'm dating multiple people...this is fun!" he saw my hair in all its forms and just genuinely accepted it and embraced it. He taught me a lot about self-acceptance and being treated right by people.

    I've been single for 10 years. I wear my hair how I want. If they want my hair done differently they can pay for a stylist to do it. Not me!! My name is not Beyonce and even then Beyonce is not always running around in a butt-length blond straight wig half the time! She be in braids and a ponytail and get her Moma to do her press. My favourite Beyonce look is when she's on a yacht jumping in the sea with braids or a sew-in that matches closely to her normal curly texture and she has Blue Ivy in similar simpler styles. Yeah, men are decentred from my life. Makes it so much easier and more peaceful!! Reclaiming my time!!! Lol! But I've always done what I wanted and not always what a man wanted. I can compromise but it's got to be reasonable. I'm not sitting in a salon for 4 hours when I have work, exercise, mental health, housekeeping and basic self-care to do!

Like bro perfect hair is for someone who has a stylist every day..and even then sometimes you just want to lie in bed and not have someone tugging at your hair! That's why celebrities go on vacation and leave their stylist at home!! Lol! Yeah my mom was a fat mom because she didn't have time to go to the gym because she was looking after the house, us kids and elderly relatives and working shifts as a nurse full time!! The unpaid labour that women do is unreal...It could never be me...I don't have the brain capacity for it. Being neurodivergent. sitting in a salon for 10 hours getting 1000 buck ankle length box braids..who will be looking after the kids during that time? Nope not me. There are so many more important things in our lives than hair. I understand that it can be a self-confidence issue and a way to bully and oppress people. I struggled for many years to understand my hair and wear my hair in a way that allows me to be happy and fits into my lifestyle. Men? They were the least of my hair problems. Lol! But I grew up in a black-majority country where the boys at school had a crush on the baldheaded female teacher! She definitely showed me that a woman could be confident with no hair!!

  • @dmystfy
    @dmystfy 7 месяцев назад +9

    I think men care more about length than texture. Long kinky hair is sexy to them bc men like what’s most different from them. Since most men have short hair, long hair on a woman is attractive bc of the polarity. The question I think about is: Is desiring long hair (even if it’s long type 4) a Eurocentric beauty standard?

    • @fruitsarelife7073
      @fruitsarelife7073 7 месяцев назад +11

      💯💯so true!!
      Oh and no long full and thick, black hair is also an African beauty standard.

    • @roma5809
      @roma5809 3 месяца назад

      No it’s not because long hair is not a Eurocentric concept or feature. Any race of women on earth can grow long hair. We see all over RUclips black women with long 4c stretched hair or Afros.
      Now wanting long BLONDE STRAIGHT hair is different. Because blonde, brunette, or redhead straight hair is Eurocentric. Long hair is not.
      The problem is BW want long hair with European textures instead of long African hair texture.

    Ms. Evie Girl I love the message you are spreading so stinking much !!!! I had to wait until I had time to sit down and watch your video and I'm so happy that I did. First and foremost I can relate to that story you shared of the brother and sister that admired your hair. I too had a little girl that is mixed stop me and she was in awe of my hair that was brushed into a big afro and she could not get over the fact that my hair looked like hers before her mother added product to it and she kept telling me how pretty it was. It dang near broke my heart that was years ago and I still think back to that moment from time to time. I wanted to say not only is it liberating to wear our natural crowns but it is also very care free not having to worry if your lace is lifting, if a track is showing, or if the leave out is "Giving" lol. I can't tell you how different I receive compliments when it has to do with my natural form. Men and women have stopped me to tell me that I'm beautiful and that I carry myself very nicely and personally I have actually taken heart to those compliments much more in comparison to being complimented on something that is not actually mine ( I know not everyone will agree) but the compliments felt authentic to me because they were based on me looking the way God created me to be. I pray that every woman receives this message. BE YOURSELF and part of being yourself is knowing what you look like naturally never be afraid of the woman you are in the mirror when you first wake up no makeup, messy hair, and whatever else you come w/ don't forget that Jesus made you and he makes NO MISTAKES ! ❤ You're so lovely Evie !!!!

    I love your thought process. We’re very similar in our thought process and thoughts about natural hair. I have a similar story where early in my hair journey I was also told to wear my hair straighten because “it looks better long”- but I’m at the point in my journey where I embrace the shrinkage instead of hating it. I also don’t care what others think about my hair. I care about what I think of myself and my hair and that’s it! (well other than God- I care about what God thinks of me 😂) Confidence starts within, not externally.

      I think sometimes confidence can start externally. From my experience, I initially went natural because I hated my flat relaxed hair, I wanted to save money and I was fed up of paying hairdresser to damage my hair and not give me any solutions. I didn't like what I saw on the outside but because I had those concrete objective reasons for going natural.. I was not easily swayed when it was looking..." a little crazy" The fact, that I entered the natural hair lifelong academy and learnt so much about my hair and other people's hair, gave me so much confidence. 15 years later I'm happy to go out with my hair looking a little crazy and not caring..especially if I'm at the swimming pool or spa. Lol! Now I get the most compliments on my Afro-centric/kinky coil hair.

      We don’t care. What men say they prefer and what they actually pursue always contradicts

    Idk I have a different experience. I’ve always had attention and eyes on me and I’ve always been natural. I think i even get more attention after I just wash my hair and my curls are extra large and poppin.

      That’s great. Depends on the audience for me but at this point, whatever is in stock is in stock. The fro will fro. Perioso.

      I think some people miss the point. Your natural hair does not have to have “extra large curls and poppin” to be worn proudly. You wear your natural hair proudly because it grows out of your head. Whatever it looks like, it’s a part of you.

    Men love beauty. Natural looks so basic and you don’t stand out. Men like having the most beautiful women they marry beautiful women I’ve never dated only relationships and marriage let them know upfront the men stay and marry based on ur attitude and personality only if ur vain like me and have tons of make up on love fake hair etc etc men will support it and pay for it if they love u I asked if they liked my natural hair better all said it doesn’t matter they liked both. Men don’t care about natural versus glam they want beautiful at all times and beautiful personality don’t bring them the screaming and emotional bullshit don’t control them or check their phone let them be themselves and that’s it. If they love u they will give u thousands for the beauty I’ve had a husband that did and he was not rich we were average. But he knew I came from a rich background and he did whatever to keep me at the same lifestyle. I’ve spent thousands on Botox and filler and lasers. Beauty is expensive but I do it cause I hate the aging. So men like you if ur personality is real u can be fake on the outside as long as ur inside is humble and real and treat them good all these people telling women men don’t like glam this is bullshit. They like whatever is beautiful and normally that’s women that stand out because of make up hair beauty and body.
