Made this tonight, and was able to get frozen flower crabs from my local Asian market. Unbelievably flavorful, and SO delicious. I grew up eating Maryland blue crabs, so eating the crab was everything I've done since I was a kid. I ate this with my father in mind, since he passed some years ago. He loved crabs, and loved Korean food. I know he's proud of my Korean cooking, and he'd have loved this stew. Thanks, Maangchi! Tomorrow I'm making your kimchi peppers and your chicken mandu.

I'm going to try to modify this recipe, although I don't know what can be used in place of the gochujang. I love the idea of the anchovies in the soup stock. I've never had chrysanthemum greens in anything, but I know where I can buy them. Fermented bean paste, white miso, easy. Flavor wise, is there much of a difference between the frozen Korean crabs and fresh American blue crabs? I know I can get blue crabs with no problem, but is it worth the time searching for frozen crabs? I have my next culinary project in this age of Covid! Thank you

To me, there is something comforting about some spicy soup, rice, and vegetables. I can't wait to try this recipe! I am learning so much from you, Maangchi 💖💖! You remind me of the sweet Korean lady that lived next door to my family when I was a child. She invited our family over to celebrate their daughter's first birthday and oh my goodness I remember her cooking food for us and it was amazing. We grew up knowing their family and I have always had love for Korean people and the cuisine. I recently bought your cookbook and have been trying all the different recipes. Thankyou for warming my heart with your love of cooking and showing me how to make some of the dishes I grew up eating! 💖
When I cook 1 1/2 cups of rice, I wash it thoroughly 1-3 times and put enough water on it. then I use the first line of my middle finger to measure water right before you cook it. you do this by submerging ur finger up to the bottom of the pot. 1 1/2 cups- 1st line, 2 1/2 cups for second line.. 3 1/2 cups for 3rd line.. but you still need to adjust accordingly to the type of rice you know.. it takes time to master the art of cooking fluffy rice!

I made this, the zucchinis were great touch. I got frozen flower crab in my local Korean store and indeed the shells were very soft I could chew on it to suck the meat out. But my crab meat flavor all went into my stew, the crab meat's not very flavorful, so I might add some fresh meaty crab meat separately next time :)
I love crab stew! I was hoping there would be the shell of the crab's body in the stew because Korean ppl love to put some rice inside the shell as if it's like a little mini bowl and add some of the crab meat and the stew to mix it up together. It's so delicious!

Dear Mangchi greetings from India. korean food is very close to Bengali cuisine. We eat a lot of fish, dry fish, anchovies etc. I make kimchi regularly. I plan to try yo this crab stew soon. I don't have bean paste, but I will probably add some dry shrimp or dry bombay duck fish. It looks delicious. I will use local red crabs from India. And eat with rice. I made this, the zucchinis were great touch. I got frozen flower crab in my local Korean store and indeed the shells were very soft I could chew on it to suck the meat out. But my crab meat flavor all went into my stew, the crab meat's not very flavorful, so I might add some fresh meaty crab meat separately next time :)

I love crab stew! I was hoping there would be the shell of the crab's body in the stew because Korean ppl love to put some rice inside the shell as if it's like a little mini bowl and add some of the crab meat and the stew to mix it up together. It's so delicious!

Dear Mangchi greetings from India. korean food is very close to Bengali cuisine. We eat a lot of fish, dry fish, anchovies etc. I make kimchi regularly. I plan to try yo this crab stew soon. I don't have bean paste, but I will probably add some dry shrimp or dry bombay duck fish. It looks delicious. I will use local red crabs from India. And eat with rice. Thank you for the great instructions.
You can use miso, a Japanese version of bean paste if you don't have the Korean Bean paste. Lot similar to each other.
