@@japancine I am not that experienced. Please explain more. I've heard that it's good to hold the grips loosely but the legs should grip the sides. Thanks
@@dantimber I went to Japanese driving school and I have learnt from professional Japanese racers the rules that work best in all cases except maybe when you must let the bike go (drop). You should be grabbing on to the bike with your legs, while sitting on it. Grab so strongly that one should not be able to push or pull you off the bike even if they try hard. You will have more control of the bike when you do so. Having said that, what about the "knee" turns? Well, test prove we don`t need them. Even sharper angles are possible when you are not kneeing. There were videos on youtube, but I cant find them now. Japanese racers demonstrating no knee technique working just fine, proving "knee" totally unnecessary. Of course, you should be holding on to the bike with your legs at all times, even during turns, providing you more control and feel of the bike. I hope that helps.
@@japancine The only bike I've ridden is a relative's 300 and that was only with brief instructions. So basically all I know is from watching dozens and dozens of videos which has been helpful. I want to learn to ride and buy a bike and plan to take a riding class. One thing that has baffled me is how riders are able to handle such heavy bikes. I understand the principal of rotating mass and how the bike wants to stay upright but controlling it still seems daunting. That's why I marvel at the speeds of racing and even normal riding on the street of heavy bikes. Gripping the bike with your legs seems like a lot of effort. I don't see riders do that much but maybe it's only necessary when turning or riding at higher speeds? As for the inside knee down I see that in nearly every video of high speed turns so what you're saying is intriguing. It does kind of makes sense though. Thanks for the reply
Wish I'd had their chops in 1970 when I came out of a wet left-hand sweeper and either simply rolled on too much throttle or hit some floated oil on the road. Last thing I could remember before coming to, was being sideways and trying to wrestle out of it rather than lay the bike down. Based on the damage, I figure I got pitched off the high side and hit on my head and right shoulder. Wouldn't be here today had I not been wearing a quality helmet. Suffered concussion and amnesia as it was, plus broken collarbone, split shoulder blade and some knuckles ground down with a bit of white bone or gristle showing in one. Oh, the joys of immortal youth!
One thing that amaze me is the tire technology has come so far...from when I raced in 1987....I love my Michelins but every one else was switching to the new Dunlop s they were just a little bit stickier then...peace
If like me you’ve often wondered how these guys can ride almost horizontally...., it’s the gyroscopic effect that’s created by the forward motion of the bike,in that the machine wants to remain vertical and the riders have to assert pressure to get the bikes to come off the vertical.
Learn more about bike physics. Bikes can be ridden with the gyro moments neutralized with opposite spinning masses. In fact, people seek ways to shave weight off those wheels as much as possible. All the magic is in the steering geometry that balances out the bike almost automatically.
It is said that these are unsafe at any speed. Well, not for all are they unsafe. These riders are beyond amazing. Okay, they're just plain nuts! 😉 But they're amazing to watch!
Never go beyond the laws of physics! If you do, you pay the consequences! If Simoncelli had not remained attached to the bike and had fallen, he would be alive NOW! R.I.P. Marco Simoncelli!
1:08 was super scary because that’s how Marco died 😭😭😭 so strong when he caught the slide and pushed back up the bike gripped and flung him back across the track and into traffic. If he was weaker or not such a strong competitor and just let it low slide he would be alive today. RIP Marco
Did I just learn something? If the rearend gets squirrelly, you should stand up so you are letting the bike correct itself underneath you while you stay basically stable. Hmmm. Cool.
This happened to me recently. Hit an invisible bump while going 75 around a turn. I was feet over head clapping my ankles and back on the seat in a split second that was so vivid I saw the facial expressions of 3 drivers and counted the clouds in the sky.
Kinda same thing happened to me yesterday…. Entered the expressway pretty hot, went to pass an ambulance that was in the right lane, and there was a sizable bump in the road that both put me airborne AND angled/turned my front tire… D E A T H W O B B L E S . I recovered cleanly, came home and washed my underwear, and now have been watching ‘close calls’ on RUclips to make the sketchiness seem more normal…. Ha
