    It's incredible how you single-handedly sparked interest in sumo for so many people, and you absolutely excelled, dude. Forget about coming in second. Just having the courage to stand before these giants and fight them makes you a force to be reckoned with, as well as one of them. Be proud, big boy.
    Next time, they'll kiss the Dohyō first.

  • @hanschi3666
    @hanschi3666 6 месяцев назад +94

    Saying that guy is “just” a pro is a huge understatement. I looked him up, expecting to see a peek of juryu or sth.
    No. Maegashira 1. And he beat Harumafuji. Twice. Three gold stars overall.
    So yeah… if this guy can beat a Yokuzuna, no shame in not standing a chance.

    • @Thejoeb
      @Thejoeb 5 месяцев назад +30

      Ōsunaarashi also did not retire due to injury or age, he was forced out in a driving scandal (rikishi are not allowed to drive cars and he wrecked while driving) so we are talking about a former Juryo division champion, highest rank of M1, with 3 kinboshi who is still only 31, and honestly he has maintained his weight well in retirement, so this is a guy still in or near his prime with a ton of sumo experience and technique. No shame in not beating him, cant wait to see you back after some more training.

You've garnered so much attention and put so many new eyes on the misunderstood sport that is sumo. The more you get into sumo, the further you go down the rabbit hole of knowledge that there is to gain on it. Currently, the Kyushu 2023 Grand Sumo tournament is undergoing over in Fukuoka, Japan - if this video has sparked the interest of any of you, then I highly recommend jumping aboard the sumo train and start watching it! Or better yet, join a local sumo club if there is one near you and start learning it!

    Sensei, I love your drive, your heart, your passion to be number one. You may not have gotten first place and that sucks, but were you beaten? Are you gonna give up now? How many times will you have to not win for you to give up? I don't think quit is in your vocabulary sir. It may not mean much, but you are first place for a lot of us that love you and your content. Thanks for the smiles, smarts, and giving me someone to cheer for. God bless.

    It's interesting how the game seems to almost become less physical the higher up in skill level you go. Lots of big spectacular tackles, pushes, leg reaps in the lower brackets, but when you wrestle the champion after you lock up it looks like he just steps out of the way and lets you fall on your hands. I'm sure there was way more to it than that but it's fascinating to watch.

    That was some really good competition there. Congrats on getting as far as you did. You showed some really good situational awareness in your semi final open match.

    Dude! You have so many incredible skill sets over so many martial arts disciplines, you should do professional MMA in the heavyweight division! No MMA heavyweight can move like you!
