Here’s Pt 2 where I use the moves in Sparring! ruclips.net/video/ZvX3yzUSv7I/видео.html
I'm glad you asked about his mustache I was wondering the same.
I see pro-wrestling as watching professional stunt men. How they do a lot of the things they do without serious injury is beyond me.
the secret is that they get injured, a lot. I mean a LOT.
its more than that, really good pro wrestling is a story with psychology, where your ivnested in CHARACTERS like in movies and tv shows, b/c thats what theyt are, where even simple moves make you 'pop' as an audience.
It’s a performance like Medieval Times, they’re really acrobatic and athletic
@@igormorais4192 "that's the neat part, you don't" :')

Pro wrestling is a sport that you loved as a child, thinks it's lame when you got older, and gained a massive respect for the athletes when you reached adulthood.
That's why I respect flippy matches so much, the athleticism is so brilliant and timed
Well said. I told this exact thing to my gf yesterday. I watched as a child to my twenties. Stopped watching for the past 20 years. Reliving old ecw, wwf, wcw matches and have a whole new respect for everything these guys and girls are doing.
That’s exactly what happened to me lmao I was obsessed with it as a kid then I grew into the “this is fake and stupid stage” but now as I get a little older I can appreciate everything that goes into be a pro it’s insanely difficult
@@Jacksiloutionlike Rey mysterio
I never thought it was lame cuz I always knew it’s was fake and it’s just fun to me, but yeah I do think wrestling isn’t as good as it used to be and definitely grew more of an understanding of how difficult it is to do.
I tried a free wrestling class and was gonna join the school had it been closer to me, even thought about moving to Philly for it, unfortunately I couldn’t afford it. But man was it hard and definitely something that takes a long time to get really good at just like any sport.
It feels like these 2 were really happy to share their trade with you. This whole experience I bet was both valuable as well as enlightening.
They were incredibly helpful and gracious
Those guys definitely looked like good guys!
I tried to get into the business years ago. (I have a different look being Chinese, Japanese and Hawaiian) UPW (Cena was the Prototype there) accepted me but the 9-11 tragedy stopped the move in 2001. Had a match with Yuji Nagata and another with Dragon Gate. Did a Chikara event with Generico, Fire Ant, Eddie Kingston and others. Teddy Hart moonsaulted on my head. Almost had a match with AJ Styles. My FCW tryout was with AJ Lee and Adam Rose. I had a smackdown tryout where I helped a run in with Matt Hardy. It was a short run but my regrets are not getting to meet and learn from all the greats out there. Thankfully I didn't get too hurt in those years.
And to everyone who is chasing their dream, don't give up. I hope you get farther than me.
@@SenseiSeth Sensei fall good! 👍
@@HawaiiFoodAndFun You had a match with Yuji freaking Nagata?! Dude, that's so awesome
@@matiascandia1107Thanks. It was a great experience and an honor but I was too young to fully appreciate the moment.
He beat me with the exploder and nagata lock but I got to hit my neckbreaker variation, which was mine exclusively for 10 years before Jay Lethal and Jey Uso started using it.
"He's 8 feet tall! How am I supposed to keep him away from the ropes?!"
That was frickin great! 🤣
This is INCREDIBLE for a first day Seth. Natural seller, good facial expressions, solid bumps, loved this 💪🏻
Aye appreciate you Wade!!
@@SenseiSethyou were great to watch!
I wouldn’t say that’s selling. It really hurt him😂
I was going to say the same. Seth believably sold some of those bumps. I was impressed.

And people always get surprised how hard we actually hit eachother haha
Seth, as a lifelong fan of pro-wrestling/sports entertainment, I gotta say:
Your match was pretty good. You got talent, your moves looked clean, your selling was good and you have the mannerism down. The Vet is of course amazing and really made this work. Good job, and I’m sure you’d do well in an indie-event Im sure. Mad respect to you.
Yeah, I was shocked at how well he picked it all up and his match actually looked really good.
And 3 minutes is no joke, that is a hell of a long time as a first singles match!
As someone who has wrestled he did ok but your giving to much credit there indicates respect him for atleast stepping in there
Not a pro wrestling fan, but this video was really enlightening and entertaining. The results may be predetermined, but the athleticism and toughness required to do what they do is extremely impressive. Great stuff, Sensei Seth!
That's why hulk Hogan has had like 10 back surgeries
@@granddaddy_funk Hogan had like 10 back surgeries because his finish involved him jumping up in the air and landing all 240 lbs of him right on his ass.
I don't know the specific videos off the top of my head, but there are a couple of decent ones out there explaining the actual psychology and storytelling of a wrestling match. There's one with Al Snow and another with Raven.
Edit: I searched for them really quick. The ones with Al Snow are on The HannibalTV channel; the one with Raven is called Secrets of the Ring with Raven.
Hating pro wrestling for being scripted is like hating movies for being scripted
@@EgoCZ Wait a minute, movies are scripted?
Come on Vet, you couldn't put Seth over? But seriously dude, you are impressing me more and more with every video that you come out with. You're living the life that a lot of us wish we could do, thank you so much for carrying us through this journey with you.
To be fair, he did put Seth over. He gave him a lot of offense for a complete rookie.
I liked the video a lot, those were solid fundamentals. It also should be noted that, traditionally (except for some special cases), you wouldn't plan out every move in a match. The more experienced wrestler - usually the heel - would call the match in the ring.
He said it is his first video with Seth, which means he gets heat by beating him the first time they meet, then the second time Seth wins, and the third match is at a PPV where each have 1 win over the other, and that would be the finale

Seth's gotta pay his dues first, brother.
What I admire the most from pro wrestlers as a scriptwritter (and amateur boxer) is their ability to tell stories in a unique way. Is all about working the crowd reactions and performing as characters while being athletic af. Respect!
As a wrestler i gotta thank u for that bro! We put alot of work into our craft, physically and creatively.
One thing i always tell my friends and family, "you can't fake gravity" 😂 and dont even get me started on taking chair shots 😂
This is one of the best "first days" I've seen filmed if not THE best. It's really evident how massive of an advantage it was that you come from martial arts and is used to working on perfecting physical movements. I've never seen anyone do this many things so quickly, but I've seen a bunch of people giving themselves a concussion just trying to land and having to deal with all the sideeffects.
I never would have expected you to cover this topic, but I'm really glad you did! Pro Wrestling is theater, but that doesn't take anything away from the insane athleticism and conditioning required to perform at a high level.
Kung fu is opera. The show must go on :)
well in thai boxing in thailand there is basically theater too, if it is not about anything, if you have guys performing this much, they cannot beat the crap out of each other each and every day, they are trying to make a living of it. But does not mean there are no real fights in between and especially in the locker rooms
I always compared pro wrestling to Jackie Chan movies.
The fight is staged, but the stunts involved are very real.
Sometimes I forget how much of a genuine athlete Seth is he did many of those complicated rolls pretty well first time and was able to take many of the hits very well once he got past the mental part.
On my army tour overseas, we put on a match for the German American festival. One of my Lieutenants was a WWE trainer. I remember the first full practice show we did. All of us young, incredibly fit soldiers could barely move the next day. I feel your pain, Seth❤️
As a 40+ year old Martial Art and Pro Wrestling fan I thought this was awesome! Love the content Seth!
Me too all of it。 I thought I was rare!
Pro wrestling is really cool !.
I have been watching wwe for years ,not anymore but I loved it back then .
And now I realise Batman uses a lot of wrestling moves in the arkham games .
You can see him perform a DDT , dropkick , chokeslam , headbutt , closeswine , german suplex .
He even did a Rey Mysterio trick on a guy at the cathedral fight against Joker thugs .
And he dropped a guy with that trick from high .
The best bit of the match was you avoiding the splash in the turnbuckle, the head kick and then into the hitch kick. It looks natural for you. looked real. Well done Seth, great showing.
I'm also a trained indy pro wrestler, and the common phrase was 'you will get hurt, you just have to learn to get hurt as little as possible.' The hardest part is that you literally have to learn to unlearn everything you have ever learned.
Yeah, pro wrestling goes against so many of your natural instincts. I can't tell you how many times I've heard one of my coaches tell someone to put their hands out of the way when a hit is coming. Someone putting their hands up when a line or elbow is coming their way is a quick way to get yourself or someone else hurt, that's for sure!
As a huge Prowrestling fan, this is my dream video :3 thanks Seth
Man I can’t wait for the next video, seeing him try to work pro wrestling moves into matches will be sick
Ramsey Dewey has a lot of good content on catch as can wrestling, including some good stuff on Boston Crabs.
Lol 😂imagine him randomly turning a kick block into a dragon whip
this looks more fun to perform, than it is to watch.
I mean, I do like watching these shows from time to time, but, now I see the performers are having even more fun.
I will say, it IS a lot of fun to perform.
love the diversity of martial arts and things related to martial arts. sick to learn all these lil things from each sport and culture
I wholeheartedly agree! I recently watched this documentary about the beginnings of MMA and how it actually had a good bit of its startings with Pro Wrestling in Japan, so these things definately have their ties! I can also link the doc if you'd like
@@ccno1cPlease do! Would love to see it.
Not too bad Seth! There's matches on tv now that have people struggling way worse. Kudos to Jack carrying you through this like the vet he is.
I'm really glad you showed how the ring is built. That's an important detail that tends to get missed in a lot of videos like this. It demystifies the bumps and shows that the ring doesn't really have much padding, so those bumps are still pretty solid. You're not breaking any bones, but you're certainly feeling those landings.
I know there are probably a lot of reasons they stick to that setup, but I can't help but imagine a safer ring that still does the job of selling the bumps.
@@wasabij The crazy thing is, this IS the safer ring! Back in the day they used super stiff boxing rings, especially in Mexico. Which is why lucha libre has a lot more rolling than other places, because it was much more dangerous to bump in those boxing rings.
@@JackgarPrime I know that much, I've built a few boxing and wrestling rings. I just hate seeing entertainers and athletes getting hurt, regardless of how much they love the sport.
There's an element of stagecraft that is inspiring me to tweak the design to make it more bouncy AND loud.
@@wasabij Yeah keeping the sound seems like it would be the tricky part. That loud BANG you get from a good bump is a vital part of the performance.
@@JackgarPrime two layers of lumber, 2x8's with a half inch of air gap between is what I imagine.
Top and bottom would contact when an impact occurs but not without the "bump force"

Mad respect for these athletes. One of your best videos.
This was a GREAT video... as soon as I read the premise I turned to the fiancee and was like "Oh, Seth is about to learn that fine hair difference between 'injured' and 'HURT' that is so important to wrestling" Keep it coming! Looking forward to part two!
As a wrestler myself, all i gotta say is, GREAT work brother!
I felt exactly the same after my time training 😂😂 its intense but god damn i love doing it haha
Top rop cross bodies and good old hurricanranas are my favorite moves to do personally haha you took those bumps like a champ 💪
Been watching pro wrestling since the 80s and I just got my Kenpo karate blue belt (with one stripe) today.
As a wrestling fan, I could say:
1. You were extremely athletic and bumped and sold well. Extremely well, most newbs don't sell well.
2. You were also blown up pretty early on
3. Vaughn gave you lots of rest time between moves. That's part of the carrying lol
4. Wanna do that for 30 minutes?
As a karate fan, I could say
1. The bumps are endless breakfalls and throws. I did that Wednesday at karate for 2 hours and my back is still hamburger.
2. Your karate definitely showed; that jumping roundhouse by the turnbuckle was great.
3. You got more "keyed in" the longer the match went, your karate instincts and training kicked in. Muscle memory for the win!
4. Wes Lee really is great in NXT, isn't he? Total diamond in the rough.
Oh, want to also shout out to Jack Vaughn and tell him to do more thigh slaps.
Wes siiiide
Well as a wrestler whos always been a karate fan, congrats brother 💪
The blow up is something that I don't think anyone is ever ready for. It doesn't matter what other sports background you have, or how good an athlete you are, there is quite literally nothing like pro wrestling, and you WILL get blown up!
I'm hearing "Can I Make Pro Wrestling Work in Sparring", and I can't wait to see it.
Great idea for a video as always. Man, you're all over the place!
This would be amazing to see, yes!

Please make a video on Catch as Catch Can Wrestling. :)
I just did ring crew for a show today. It's a LOT of work setting up a wrestling show, and also tearing it back down when it's done, but it's SO rewarding when you see how you can totally transform a venue and when the crowd is there, and the show is going, it feels super worth it.
Good guys like you help make the show. Ring crew guys are crucial to a wrestling show. Fans have no idea the experience it takes to put up a ring, let alone make fine adjustments to the canvas, banners and to balance the turnbuckles not just for distance but for tension.

That was awesome, fun and interesting, sensei seth at his best!
Seth if you have the opportunity why not trying catch wrestling ? it's the roots of pro-wrestling, folkstyle and freestyle wrestling. Numerous moves in pro-wrestling are based on catch wrestling techniques that were used either to submit or help pining your opponent. I don't know where you live but for schools that you can potentially contact, there is the Catch Wrestling Alliance in California, American Hook Wrestling on the east coast, or the Old School Grappling Catch Wrestling Association. Or you can contact Scientific Wrestling or Snake Pit USA as they both have affiliated schools across north america.
Would love to hear how pro wrestling may implement into your other disciplines. I felt like my pro wrestling training actually made my jiu jitsu and wrestling better
I would think your ability to breakfall would actually have a significant benefit from pro wrestling training. Not to mention your body's ability to adapt to those sorts of impacts in general. A pro wrestler also has to be an expert at gauging distance and timing. Knowing how to NOT hurt someone with a move that very easily could is a testament to having excellent precision. So while you probably won't be doing a scoop slam in an MMA match, there are so many smaller, more subtle technical and psychological details that carry over.
Great job Seth! It takes a lot of courage to step into something like this. Your match was fun and cool to watch! Your teachers are also cool, safe and knowledgeable.
As a guy that started professional wrestling training a year ago and has a couple of matches under my belt, I can certainly say that one of my favorite RUclips things is watching athletes train for it/have a match.
What can I expect? I’m currently playing rugby grinding thru seasons but ima start pro wrestling training in a few years I think

Mad respect for that, fair play :) Me and friends used to wrestle in high school, around 1998/2000, inspired by the WWE. Seriously awesome video Seth. Really well done. Such a FUN video to watch and great production value as well.
really interesting to see what goes on behind the scenes in the prep, and very entertaining for the run-through as well. you can see why some of the top guys go into acting, because the're already doing it, plus have the physique to put on an impressive show.

This was pretty damn cool. I honestly hope you can do more with them someday! They seemed very awesome.
you got some really good pros on your side here! both of them really knew what they are talking about. I really dig jacks look and persona for the indies. Just a ligit huge scary mustach man who does old school chops and lariats to put over some of those more flippy young wrestlers, and he has the build and hight to throw people through the ring and the expirence to make sure they land well. you did great for a first session though it was plain to see that you felt more comfortable with the more judo/mma style moves like armdrags and submission holds :P

That one had me laughing my arse off. Was expecting him to ask if the training was gonna hurt or injure him. But yeah, how to grow a mustache, that was, in fact, the most important question to ask.
A lot of those bumps and rolls we do in judo and jiujitsu… absorb the impact when falling 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Great video!
Thank you for covering this! I've attended pro-wrestling in 2017, and based on my experience, I can definitely say that matches might be choreographed (although there are styles of pro-wrestling that utilize full-contact and actual competition), but you CAN still actually take pro-wrestling as a legit martial art. First, it's based on actual wrestling like catch-as-catch-can and you can use this kind of moves, here are few examples: my friend and a fellow pro-wrestler took down an attacker with headlock takedown, and our coach escaped the front waist lock position with vertical suplex in an actual fight. Second, the training includes a lot of cardio, exercises for strength and flexibility, some actual martial arts practices like tap boxing. Third, Brazilian capoeira also has choreographed fights and karate has katas, but nobody says capoeira or karate are fake and unusable.
This brings back a lot of memories. And yes, its a long day with everything that is involved. Great video mate
That's really good! I appreciate you getting out of your comfort zone all the time 😊
I’m not really a pro-wrestling fan myself, but this was really cool, I love see how much toughness, but also skill, and not to mention dedication, these guys have. Very cool!
If I was younger (and tougher!) is want to try!
I did that for a weekend in the 90s, at the apex of early MMA cheesiness, back when there was only one or two UFC fights in the books. That chest slap killed me. I was the "karate expert" and I wrestled with a guy named the Spanish Angel who looooooved that move. I'm 5'6"'; he's something like 6'3". An awesome couple of days, but I went home with welts for weeks.
As Drew McIntyre once said, "fake? When you learn how to fake gravity, you let me know".
Its even more real than an action film scene. No one complains about those and if they are unscripted.
This was amazing, fantastic content. Thanks for producing it for us.
