- Hi guys! V8 Showdown is back again this week! Team Vicky pulls back into the lead when their engine actually starts and (sort of) runs! Team Studebaker assembles their engine and is determmined to get it installed, complete with transmission... Both teams have a lot to do if they are going to keep up to @jonathanw4942 !
Thanks to everyone who ordered aa "T" shirt! They are being printed now and will start shipping as soon as they are done!
Also: We just got in a new shipment of "Same Old Shit" coffee mugs, so get them while they last, haha!
Oh! I do not have a Telegram account or any bullshit contest going! Do not respond to any of these "contest winner" replies; they are a scam.

What content isn't worth monetizing? It's a bunch of good guys bs'ing and working on old cars, what's not to like? RUclips broadcasts stuff that's NSFW without batting a jaundiced eye, but they're giving you grief? Ridiculous. Keep doing what you're doing, Scott...we'll be here✌
@@lateefcarrere1649 I’m gonna guess that swearing, drinking and the occasional joint doesn’t help their situation.
Getting ready for action at a good solid pace while enjoying your beverage and the day as you are working. Priceless and I enjoy your homemade rides. I have done a good 50 of Sixty some cars as daily drivers.
When the only colour blind guy on the team offers to mix up a paint match by eye and gets it right you know victory is in the bag.
Dean is the king of shit-work cleaning! When he "forgot which team he was on" I think his innate "Ford Guy" nature overrode his competitive instincts.
@AcmeRacing Honestly tho- that's really just Dean's nature to get I'm there to help get it done, doesn't matter if it level 1 tidy or or elaborate detail. It seems like he knows his limits maybe, & leaves more intricate tech to those who are more willing, but either way - he'd actually make a great team captain imho!!
@@jamesthompson8008 Scott's on both teams anyway... the whole thing is just an excuse to have a laugh and play with old junk ... I _highly_ approve.
Thanks for the mention Scott! It wasn't filmed, so I must ask if you cleaned and checked the oil pressure relief valve? Studebaker chose not to install it on the pump itself but to install it at the front end of the main oil gallery in the engine block. There is a large hex nut just to the right of the timing cover and just above the pan rail. Removing this nut will give access to the pressure relief valve spring and plunger.
Hi Ed! Yes, we did check and clean it... Seemed to be fine! Thanks again for the very kind donation of the gasket set! Hope to get the Stude running this week...
Can we all chip in on a pressure washer fund for Dean?
Ummmm...duh!
Exactly! I said the same thing above.
An extra 15 minutes of CWM is a great treat.
was thinking the same...
Better than any automobile show on TV. Great to see the use of origonal parts fixed with origonal tools. Corporations never respect the talent anywhere. They don't know what they have.
Great episode with perfect timing. Here in Hungary tomorrow is a national holiday with much festivity and tomorrow my band will debut "Start The Car" by Jude Cole in front of the whole town on the big stage and I will dedicate it to CWM. Let`s rock.
Awesome! Thanks so much... Cheers from me and Frankers!
That's badass!! Cheers from Canada
St Stephen's Day 👍👍🇨🇦
@@johnkranyics281 Yup!
Hi curbmassa. LET THERE BE ROCK!
Dean is on the wrong team...another example of Dean's greasy flip!!!
Dean is a good guy
I would have been happy if this episode had been even longer.
Deans trans dust-in will be all the difference. Great episode.
Dean does good work, he does first rate clean up of parts and cars. This is an important part of any car repairs. The show wouldn't be as good without him helping the team.
What Dean lacks in good flip choices, he more than makes up for with solid cleaning work and exquisite dust-in skills.
Great update on the V8 challenge cars. No CWM content is ever too long! Going to make a great contest when they hit the track.Glad to support the channel in a small way and will wear my T-shirt with pride when it arrives! Best wishes from the UK 🇬🇧
Thanks so much Mark! Glad you enjoyed this one...
Honestly this is the most exciting match up ever, im literally desperate to hear the Studebaker run. Great work on the ford motor, I think the blowby is getting better.
The Stude trans is a Borg-Warner T86 with an R11 overdrive. The OD has its own oil fill, so make sure its topped off when you fill the main gearbox. They are notorious for running dry because nobody checked them.
I would guess T85, but since I believe it came out of a 6 cyl car I don't know. It does not have an OD at all, neither R10 nor R11.
@jerrywesterfield5636 the T85 was normally fitted to the bigger V8s ans are easily identified by their side-loader side cover. Ford for example used them behind the 312 Yblock and the FEs well into the 1960s. The T86 was primarily behind the smaller V8s (early flatheads, early yblocks) and the sixes for sure. They are easily ID'd but their top-loader style top cover. You could get both OD and Non-OD versions. The one Scott has is definitely a R11 OD, you can see the overdrive tailshaft and solenoid in the video. They are cool gearboxes ans I love the AOD feature. The R10s normally came on the Six Cyl cars, the R11 on the V8s. I have a T86/R11 set aside for my Falcon, it's the exact same one. gearbox...hopefully I can get the electric shift and the kick-down working.
It fills my heart with joy to finally see the Studebaker getting the restoration that it deserves!
Thanks Kyle! I'll be sure to credit you when we are picking up the trophy!
A cocours driveway restoration by Carter Automotive Restyling is the secret to success!
The CAR/CWM "Auto Body Restoration For Complete Dummies" manual will be a best seller!
Thanks Kyle, sorry i missed ya!
Man that old flathead came around pretty nice. Sounds good for what it is. The new Studebaker engine will sound as good as it looks I’m sure.
Ol Henry was smilin' when your '51 lit off. Can't wait for the Studebaker to do the same. I'm the eternal optimist.
I love how you kept The Yellow Book handy all through the episode. Useful thing that.
The competition heats up - two potential runners, rattle cans deployed and compression through the roof! This is getting serious now 😁
This show is never too long Scott
👍😎👍
I am glad Strong's Garage came thru for the Vicky. It was nice to hear that old flathead run. The Studebaker is next!
Fabulous video. So much accomplished on this vid. Wow the entire Cold War Motors team was on deck to get both motors in.
Wow, what a relief! The Vicky runs, thank goodness. Great episode. The Studebaker engine looks brilliant and is going to sound fabulous, almost must make you want to shuffle the car up the restoration queue a couple of places 😄 The whole thing is a joy to watch.
Great stuff! I really got scared, when flathead started knocking. Glad it went away!
13:20 Why I love flathead V8s so much. They're indestructible. Most people would have condemned that thign to scrap but ya'll got it running basically with just random odds 'n ends laying around and sweat equity.
Glad the old flathead Ford got sorted out. That Studebaker engine looks like a real gem. Great work cleaning it up and putting it back together. It's going to be a great day hearing them both roar beside each other!
Put a timing light on the vick and see if the mark is steady or wonders ✨️
That flathead starter sound is so sweet. Who would of guessed it would have such good compression. Can't wait to see the Studebaker starting. Dean's a cleaning machine.
My favorite part of every episode is when Tom stops by. He reminds me of my grandpa and his buddies
Made my day again. Thanx everyone. As usual, there is no better available.
Gratifying to see everyone hanging out at Scott’s to get those classics on line. With some impressive results! Wish we had some low traffic roads such as we see on your cruises with Francine.
Way to go on the Studebaker engine and bravo on finding the smoking gun on the flatty.... awesome 😎
Thanks! Love what you guys do. Keep it up.
Hey, thank you so much, Jerry! Very kind of you to help keep us going. All the very best from me and Frankers and the Agents!
Great episode with great content. I'm jealous of the comradery you guys share and all the fun you have together. Even Tom got his hands a little dirty in this episode. He usually has something suddenly to go do when the real work starts. Ha ha. Love Tom!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Well imagine that! An engine sounds much better when it has oil pressure! 😄
You can use a pair of Jeep shift forks on one of those open top Studebaker transmissons and it works, just in case you want a floor shifter..Paul from Ohio..
Thanks! That's a cool tip...Cheers!
Thanks for putting all the effort to put together the show every week.
Hey thanks for watching! Cheers...
Great episode! These showdowns are my favorite. I like when you guys spend a little extra effort and clean and paint things up.
Glad you like them!
Fifteen minutes longer and it's still the fastest 1.25 hours on RUclips. I love the longer shows!
The Flatty get's a BIG headstart in the race for being done first. 😏👌
"Take that Johnathan" well now you can make a new sticker from that sentence. The Studebaker make over went totally over board and im very happy for it. Shows you don't need much money or throw endlessly new parts on something to make it nice. Same with the crown vicky just tedious cleaning job and the fruits of the labor can be seen much later when everything is complete. Dean and Kyle make for a excellent work force both have good sense of humor in there own respective way. I rather hear Tom use curse words then watch some content that talks about newish trend things i was not found of even as a teenager.
I love the long program! I'm an old timer with a attention span longer than a gnat!
Please try remember to run the engines without the coil connected to get the oil circulation through the whole block and oil passages. I'm thinking the stude with the cooked bearings probably had a oil pump shit the bed or it got clogged up,it had plenty of oil when you drained it.
Flathead runs like a top with the new distributor parts, cool beans! Thanks again guys and Frankers! Screw f.u.tube! Ridiculous b.s!
Thanks for the great episode. The V8 Challenge is very enjoyable to watch. Both teams are winners!
Hurray!! I was almost as excited to see the '51's flathead run (and stay running) as I was when the Pontiac flathead six smoothed out! Well done! 👍
I love me a Stud
And that Ford will do.
Hell, I can remember
When they both were new.
UP
Editor's note: Now where the hell did I put me teeth?
Cheers Mark! Happy to see you both back!
i did enjoy that im glad you found the problems on the ford and the studebaker has come along to keep up the good stuff 🤣🤣
Great work guys, I’m glad to see you getting them both back together. If you talk to Johnathan W let him know that I can help him out with the engine plaque he was asking about scanning and photoshop work on
Great to see Kyle in the great Canadian car garden. Sweet show.
Outstanding episode guys! I'm so excited to see the Vicky's flat head running. I owned a rebuilt 1949 flat head V8 and it purred, was almost silent at idle with just the ticking of the generator. The exhaust note of that flat head V8 Ford was music to the ears!
The old Gilligan's island debate!!! Imagine if they had made it Dean's island--The ratings would have been through the roof! He could have taught the headhunters "greasy flips"! 😆
Can't wait to hear the Studebaker run!
Great to hear the Studebaker run , should be great with a manual gearbox.
It’ll burn rubber like crazy
The one we did in 1963 did
But broke Transmission’s
No way was it our fault 🤪
Superb episode - time flew by so much so would have watched another hour!!
Ford engine an absolute beast enjoyed the fault finding diagnostics
Great episode Scott!
A true nail biter
Nice to see the
Vic and Stude given another chance at rollin down the road
again.
All the best!
Lost it at the "Clearance" sign on the Ferd.
Once those rings seal, with some heat cycles, that blow by will disappear.
The work you're putting into both of these cars takes me back to when I bought and built models, then worked on the real ones back in the day. The Stude's engine looks great, and I hope it rips, relatively speaking. To be fair, I hope you guys figure out the Ford's reluctance to run. Always time well spent North of the border😁👍
Dean doesn't forget, he just follows the beer!!
I was thinking the same thing as Myles when you were hooking the Studebaker engine onto the hoist ... "Don't scratch the paint!". And you gotta love how the Ford V8 is sounding, given what it looked like a few weeks ago.
All Stude Engines were built in So. Bend and shipped to their various assembly plants. Earlier parts sender me, AHH!
Another great Saturday afternoon with the CWM ! Love to hear the flathead running. Keep them coming.
This was a fun episode
I have said it before and I'll say it again... You guys have too much fun
Some really nice work on both cars. Good that you got what you needed at Strong's Garage that did the trick for the '51 Flat head Ford. With the running Ford engine team Ford pulls ahead of team Studebaker. As always an entertaining and informative video about what some guys can do with a lot of beer and a lot of time.
Your videos are never to long, I can't get enough Cold War Motors.
Love seeing the guys every week. I feel like I am back in an ‘Old School’ car club from my youth in the late 1960’s !
Great to see team Vicky up and running! And you've just gotta love Ash's E30 👌 minty
Fantastic stuff, loved hearing that Ford roar to life!! I can't wait for the Studebaker to light off and see the drags! Stay dirty 👍
A belated Happy Birthday Andy! Time flew,so I didn't even notice it was longer.I was wondering if "Vicky's" exhaust was too plugged as it was so quiet. The 'Studie' engine looks Awesome.Well done. Cheers Everyone !
Belly laugh count. 1) "Gilligan should have been killed in the first episode. 2) "c'mon Dean, that stuff is like $13 a can..... no screwin' around." 3) "A diamond in a goat's ass." 4) Scott: "Ya gonna take the curve"? Jim: "Yeahhhh, might as well". btw....nice find on that distributor.🥴
Thanks for a another great episode of v8 show down. Wish I could help more Scott. ❤🤔✌️👍cheers.
Fantastic job on the Ford engine ! Runs nice and smooth. That Studebaker motor looks brand new now , maybe you could do some bodywork on the Studebaker 😆 Dean did a great job on the bell housing and valve covers !
The body work began last week with huge gobs of filler applied liberally to huge crevices in the front fenders! Looks good from here!
@@CharlesAtwell-or7bm Yup looks very good . They did a great job on the fenders.
When I rebuilt my T, I took the innards of a seized 24 engine apart and put its crankshaft and transmission on a bare 25 block that only had a camshaft. Sleeved the valve guides back to factory spec and bored the block .030 over. Welded a reground the lifters to factory and ran it for two years until the transmission ring gear stripped. Instead of rebuilding the trans, I bought another engine. I’ve since had to replace the valves and have been driving the hell out of it for the last 12 years. The engine I bought to replace it had been in storage for 30 years and after cleaning a mouse nest out of the crankcase, it fired right up.
I would watch twice as long an episode it's about content and you have the most interesting on the platform hoping youtube pulls their head out but not holding my breath
29:47 Looks like with the Clearance Tag on the window that Dean is trying for yet another Greasy Flip!
that studebaker is looking good and the Flattie sounds Good can not wait to see them limbering around the property and want to see if that twin Traction works
Thanks for the bonus minutes in this week’s installment - can’t get enough V8 showdown! Anything left from painting the Stude’s mill? Looks like it could work for a little Frazier driveway dust-in action! Best to you, Frankers and the Agents - see you next week!
I’ve hit the 👍, grabbed a cold one, and settled back. Now I can watch another great episode. 🍻📺
1:17:00. Scott has outdone himself this week. 👍💯
So much progress on both cars! You all rock!
I'm baffled by RUclips. This content is fantastic. I don't care one bit if you sware or not. Nearly every reality show on TV has swaring. At any rate, what a find with that wire in the distributor. Hope the Stude runs soon. Great show. Thank you!
That is killer to watch bringing back a motor from the dead
Thanks for fantastic vid Scot .... well done to you and Team Vick for sorting out flathead. also the Sude engine looks fantastic ... keep up great work ...Cheers ...👍
Brilliant fella's!! Love this show! Ya'll stuck to it and made junk run awesome!
Absolutely killer episode, thanks for all the work that went into the long episode man, damn cool to see the Vickie rumble! Best to you, Frankers and all agents involved. Fucking sucks that RUclips throttles real experiences and skill in pursuit of some bullshit version of a product they believe is revenue. Fuck man, hang in there.
Go Studebaker 😂
Thanks man! We'll keep at it as long as anyone wants to watch...Cheers!
Don’t know about such things but maybe enough of your viewers would follow you to another platform. I would.
Always been a fan of the rattle can rebuild. Makes old brakes work like new, too!
Excellent progress! That ford flathead sounds nice.
I like the paint mixing scenes. Decades ago I work for a distributor of "vehicle refinishing supplies" and mixed many litres of paint (always following the official formulation). As I recall every single colour -absolutely all of them - have at least a little bit of black, a bit of white, and a blob of ochre. Specially the ochre.
Perfect timing!! I just got home with 750ml of cheap bourbon and assorted munchies. Fond greetings from the piedmont of Georgia to the plains of Alberta. Bring on the wonderful wonkiness. Show me just how shady a shade tree mechanic can be!
Am I the only one who wonders what’s UNDER the bolt-on Stude headlight pods ? For the record, the pods are hideous. Cheers from Alabama. ❤
chuka chuka chuka tssssss tsssss 👍 stude engine looking great
Longer is better.....Great to see the Vicky running. I would try some engine restore in it to cut some of the blow by....LOVE the Studey and REALLY looking forward to it running with the 3 speed manual. Do a Studebaker shirt and I will buy one...
And a good afternoon to all.
Can’t wait to see the Studebaker fire up next Saturday. The engine looks awesome. Well done.
Great video! Love the banter between you and Johnathan.
I like the Studebaker engine color! The flathead sounded good !
Really loving this series! Great to see Kyle there too! 😊
Seeing either of those go for a drive will be enough of a treat. I want to see the Studebaker driven in anger with all the racing technology and all. Haha
Pleasing to see the flathead V8 run and stay running, the Studebaker engine gearbox looks good, should run ok,
Congrats on getting the flat head running especially while working in the rain and at night not easy The Studebaker engine will really surprise people when they open the hood looks great 👍😃
Like the late great Dick Trickle, Dean is a true sportsman and will happily step up and help the other team even if his team loses to them, because without the other team there is no competition and there is no honor or victory in a one sided race.
No Saturday is complete without the weekly CWM fix! (Pun intended)
Amazing how smooth that flathead runs,,
