  • I am a little sad that this video is out because that means I had to give the bike back. The 2020 Orange Bikes Stage Evo LE is one fun ripper machine.
    We will talk about the geometry and build of the bike and then dive in the ride review.
    Find one and book a test ride. You will not be dissapointed.

    Great review.i really wanted a stage evo, but got a great deal on a five evo. I still can't believe how fast and light it is. I came from a whyte t130 which was amazing .but the orange is in another league

      I agree. I could see the 5evo being a bit more rowdy than the Stage Evo, but I don't think anyone is going to go wrong with either one. I may actually be going back to one for my personal ride.

    Great review. Lovely bike. I love the shape (cross-section) of these Orange frames compared to "ordinary" round frames. They look so good. Great bike.

    Nice review. You are probably the 1st person on RUclips to put together a review on the Stage Evo. If people are interested in this bike, they should really do a demo to see how awesome it really is. The single pivot Orange's are absolute rippers. Unfortunately the availability to do so is quite limited. One interesting thing to note is that the Five Evo can be run with 29" wheels too which helps raise the bottom bracket for the techy rocky and rooty east coast/ midwest trails. Although, I wouldn't run more than a 2.3" tire in the rear unless you de-stroke the shock.

    • @WattOnWheels
      @WattOnWheels  3 года назад +2

      That is very good to know. That could make the Five Evo quite bit more of a do all machine.

      @@WattOnWheels It also makes for a great XC machine believe it or not. I got my Five Evo "29er" down to 23 lbs (with no dropper).

    I really fancy one of these as a do it all bike I like to ride xc rides and also trail centres, not full on enduro just flowy stuff with a few little jumps, would this bike be a good fit?
    Also I noticed it has a very low bb height did you suffer many pedal strikes especially on tech climbs?
    Cheers 🤘

    • @WattOnWheels

      This bike is perfect for what you described. During my testing of it, that is exactly what I did with it. Local trails, and a shuttled bike park.
      The bottom bracket at 320mm could cause a pedal strike if you are not mindful of it. But once you know this on the bikes, you just need to maybe change the attack plan over roots or obstacles. It was not really an issue.

    How tall are you, what shape (leg length?) and what size did you ride? I'm 5ft10 with short legs so right between M and L. Used to run a Large Stage 4, the new Medium Evo is the same length but will get me more dropper length, the new Large will get me more length but limit me to about 130 maybe 140mm on dropper post length. Cant decide, and cant test ride!

    • @WattOnWheels
      @WattOnWheels  2 года назад

      If you are shorter legged , definitely go with the medium. I am 5'10" but long legged. If I was to own this bike I would have chosen the large.

    I have an Orange Four, which for all intents and purposes is the outgoing model of this bike before they rebranded it the Evo range. light weight like an XC bike but with geometry more like a trail bike, I love it. Looks like they are leaning further in the enduro geo category with this update.

    • @WattOnWheels
      @WattOnWheels  3 года назад

      What rear travel is on your Four? Didnt that model start out originally with 100mm/4in travel then evolve in to a 120mm bike?

    • @superspecky4eyes
      @superspecky4eyes 3 года назад +1

      @@WattOnWheelsMy Orange Four has 130mm on the front and 120mm on the back. I believe the Orange Stage Four (29er) had 120mm up front and 100mm at the back. They've replaced both models with the Evo and the Stage Evo now.

    • @superspecky4eyes
      @superspecky4eyes 3 года назад +1

      The Orange Four was itself a replacement for the old Orange Segment which was their old short travel full-susser.

    Great detailed review. Hard to find ride reviews on this bike. Has anyone who has owned the bike long term have any cons or dislikes about the bike? I'm considering getting one as my local shop, in PNW, now carries them. Seems like it would be a great bike for me for 90% of the stuff I ride. Cheers

    How tall are you on a med frame?

    • @WattOnWheels
      @WattOnWheels  3 года назад

      I am 5'10"/ 177.8 Cm Tall. I probably could also fit the Large as I felt in some situations the medium wasnt quite right. But, this also had to do with the stock bars were pretty flat with hardly any rise. Maybe a 30mm riser bar could have really changed the bike a bit for me.

    do wonder why orange don't put shimano cranks on their 12 speed bikes... just means they can't use the proper chain to get the smoother shifting
    nice review overall man!!

    • @WattOnWheels
      @WattOnWheels  3 года назад

      In certain build kits they do offer Shimano cranks. The factory build featured as much UK brands as they could. Also, Hope components does offer a Shimano 12 speed specific front chainring in 32 and 34 tooth profile so they may use the new chain type.
      Thank you for the kind comment about the review.
