- Darth Maul's reconstruction. From being cut in half on Naboo by Obi-Wan Kenobi to surviving for 12 years as a damaged soul on the junk fields of Lotho Minor. Rescued by his brother, Savage Opress, Maul was brought to his home planet of Dathomir to be "reborn". Maul was able to rise again and become the leader of the Crimson Dawn. Although sporting cybernetic robot legs, Maul still obtained his agileness and strength.
They made his legs longer so he stood a chance against The high ground...

When Talzin puts him to sleep, his legs literally fall apart. Anyone else noticed this as well? He was holding these legs together with the force for over a decade... And he didn't sleep once. The dark side really did keep him alive. Amazing character.
Yeah, because things very rarely last a month with no sleep. If that's true, he was definitely using the dark side all that time. Kind of sad.

Yeah mauls force potential is underrated because he may not be the chosen one, but his anger alone gives him such a boost that his control is fluid.
Added with the fact that the more flesh and bone a person has, the power in the force is stronger. This Maul is weaker in the force than his appearance in the Phantom Menace. Meaning if he had his full body, he COULD have been a equal to Sidious

The visual of mauls dark clouds being pulled out of his head by mother talsin is one of the coolest things in this show. It’s like she just pulling out his insanity shown through dark clouds that blinded his judgement and restored his mental state

I need you to imagine .. the fight between light saber is always about a jumping around. However you use the spider leg which is so heavy and less mobility than Two leg to fight a full leg man who can Parkour around and jump behind you before you could even turn around.
When I first heard they were bringing Maul back in TCW, I thought it was going to be the dumbest goddamn thing. But after the amazing story they gave him, his quest for revenge, his usurping of Mandalore, his second destruction by Sidious, and his final rematch with Kenobi in Rebels... I've never been so happy to be wrong. They did Maul justice, fleshed him out as a character, and made him a much cooler part of the Star Wars mythos than he had ever been before.
Even if Maul's story wasn't happy or triumphant one, it was one of the best in canon.
I agree. Ressurecting after being cut in half just because of anger seemed pretty forced, but they really made him into one of the most interesting characters in Canon. It's a Shame that he probably won't appear in the Kenobi series
Absolutely epic work they did. I was even feeling a bit bad for him and what has he been through, I was quietly rooting for him. Easily the best thing that Clone Wars did was that they make his survival canon

I love how his healing doesn't feel cheap, like Talzin can clear his mind enough to make it possible for him to think and reason but you can feel that he still carries all that pain with him and his inner monologue is probably still unhinged and chaotic.
Lol his inner monologue and character IS STILL unhinged and chaotic as he always was as he was always a psychopathic power-hungry mass murdering monster. It's truly interesting. Filoni may have cheaped out on Grievous and other elements of the lore in the prequel era, but Maul's evolution as a character were one of the more interesting choices he made. Maul started as a warbling madman given just enough clarity to continue on with robot legs, then after executing Pre Visla and seeing his "brother" die, all of that and what not, he eventually mellows out as he realizes Palpy has plans far more deranged than anything he could ever come up with.
This man kept his legs and guts together SIMPLY from pure, unadulterated rage, for 12 years. With that much hatred and malice being used in Force energy I actually don't understand how even one Force user couldn't at least feel like something was off in the Force.

I had a little theory. Palpatine can easily hide his force aura from strong jedi,so what if he could hide others too? If possible,he probably kept him hidden so he could suffer for his failure and eventually die

Absolutely loved how his spider legs just fell off after he was put to sleep. Which meant he didn't construct them and that they were purely being held together with the force.
Sam Witwer is *really* good at conveying pain. You feel how torturous it must have been for him to regrow his legs from scratch.
Well he got metal fused to flesh and wire hooked into muscle strands super heated and molded to shape whilst hot and he didn't even get anesthetic
He's also amazing at conveying pure rage and hatred. His screams of anger and pain are like no other.
He’s one of the best voice actors in the business. His range is incredible
Just the way he said "Brother" after he woke up makes me believe nobody could ever come close to Sam Witwer as Maul, the way he delivered that ONE WORD gives me chills every single time I hear it

The character liked so much, they made it canon that he was literally too angry to die.
And he wasn't even a character. He was a double-bladed lightsaber. That's it. He's kinda like the Boba Fett of the prequel trilogy. A throwaway character that enough people obsessed over for some reason that gave writers an easy out.

Yeah, as he died, when he said "Tell me, is he the chosen one? He will avenge us." He understood that he was wrong all his life from being a pawn of Sidious and hope Luke would destroy the dark side.
CommanderCodyHD in hope *Anakin* would destroy the Dark Side. Maul is referencing Anakin. Anakin is the chosen one, the balance. He destroys the Jedi and eventually destroys the Sith. Luke is the the catalyst that helped him realize what Palpatine really is before throwing him off the ledge and dying shortly after.
It's really bad when a guy's death is probably the least depressing part of his life.

I won't lie: when I first knew Maul was coming back, I did _not_ have high expectations. But when I actually saw it for myself, I think that was the day I came to believe that TCW is the best Star Wars TV series of all time.

weird that she uses magic to give him legs and they end up being robot legs, organic legs would have made more sense. Robot makes more sense if they were built for him by a engineer
It's not like she can regrow them. Talzin doesn't have that kind of power.
I think it looks much more visually appealing to have cybernetic legs. Maybe organic ones made of other people's corpses would have made sense with the Dathomir magic and its resurrective properties - but I think the viewer needs to be reminded every chance they can get that Maul got sliced in the fuck in half.
It would make sense but even magic has rules, and goes by the laws of conservation of matter. She would need a "donor" and there wasn't one on hand.
Magic and technology don't have to be mutually exclusive
They tend to show that Jedi use the force when constructing their lightsaber, despite it not making sense to me of why someone couldn't just use schematics and their own hands. I think it something similar with the legs...
I love this. Maul’s first clear thought in almost 15 years perfectly sums up his character:

Looking at what Mother Talzin accomplished with healing Maul's mind, she could have done so much good. Her magic has the ability to do that, imagine what other great things she could have achieved.
That kind of magic, Sith Alchemy, as far as we know is only achievable with the Dark Side.

The voice of Maul did an exelent job, especialy that he only has 2 lines to base it on and yet he still manages to show all the PTSD that Maul has hes been going through for 12 years
the part where he yelled: "JEDI!!" was my favourite.
Sam Witwer's performance as Maul was absolutely amazing. Maul's insane ramblings when found by Savage come across as so unsettling.
I really want to see all versions of Darth Maul in "LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga".

The idea of Maul going crazy, but only because it's what allowed him to not give up on life, truly shows Maul's resolve.
The idea of the mother, so casually leading a lost soul and healing it truly shows the messed up practices she is used to..
In a way, Maul is the most relatable character.
He was so lost, his path was nothing but agony with NO light realistically EVER reaching him.
Everything about him just feel so in-character. It all just fits.
I like how Darth Maul grabbed Savage’s face trying to see if he was Obi wan.
Darth maul probably has the best character arcs in all of science fiction and fantasy in general
I'm not gonna go that far, but he certainly has one of the better ones in Star Wars.
Better than Vader IMO, at least he didn't go from "good guy" to "I'm going to murder these kids now" in a few minutes.

I'm glad they re-introduced him in Rebels as he was in Clone Wars. Probably one of my favourite character epilogues in Star Wars, ever.
@Keldor Miro I think it was perfect the way it was. The shortness of the fight was not because of the lack of meaning, rather the opposite. Obi Wan won that duel before it even started because he learned from his past mistakes, Maul didn't. It was a swift and decisive victory for Obi Wan, that's why it was so short.

I loved how the characters who did nothing in the movies were brought back and turned into the best characters ever. Boba Fett fell in the Sarlacc Pit and when he got out, he became an ally to Mando and Bo-Katan. Darth Maul was sliced in half, and when Savage found him, he turned into a monster and one of the best characters in the Clone Wars.
