You may be thinking, well of course because he doesn’t want to die to his master, but we see throughout that Maul will stay for a battle until one opponent is killed. Whether it be him or his rival. He has shown that he is willing to take a warrior's death (just like in rebels), and even with his Dathomirian origin it makes sense. So this scene shows exactly how scary Sidious is, even to Maul. The fact that Maul, despite being willing to have a warrior's death, he asks for mercy from Sidious. When even an evil, determined and beligerent foe like Maul asks for Mercy from Sidious, that is how you know what true terror is.

@@darklordofthesith2633 🎶 He's Sidious, Sidious. You never really know what he's gonna do next. He's Sidious, Sidious. Hehehehehe, let the hate flow through you 🎶
The fact this whole scene even took place is a testament to Sidious' evil. The whole encounter could have ended at 1:50 when both Savage and Maul failed to resist a mere force push from Sidious but he decided to test both their prowess in lightsaber combat instead and initiated the duel. Then at 2:40 after being successfully charged at by Savage and finding it difficult to take on both brother who have resorted to attack him from multiple direction simultaneously, you can see him audibly scowl before once more opting to use his superior mastery of the force to momentarily disable Maul and dispatch an isolated Savage. Finally, at 4:13 the dual wielding enraged Maul clearly has gained a lead against Sidious in terms of strength finally managing to land a kick and have the advantage in the final saber cross, however at this point Sidious had decided to end the encounter and further tapped into the dark side to overpower Maul on the saber cross, and opted to use the force to disable him.
@@Darknesss490I think rather that he can’t easily duel them both at the same time, especially since they surrounded him. However, his connection to the force would always be his trump card in the fight, allowing him to decide where the engagement would take place (throne room, to announcement yard place, to in front of the mural) as well as how it would take place as well (his amount of opponents and their fighting styles). Although the Maul duo could at least concern him in terms of their physical capabilities, they were in no way able to even touch him in terms of their force capabilities.
I would be lying if I said I wasn't smiling with Sidious in this fight. He's so confident in this battle, he knows he's going to win. He constantly turns his lightsaber off and laughs in their face while literally toying with them. One of my favourite duels from the Clone Wars.
Maul was essentially a tool, Dooku was his bridge across the Separatists and the Republic, but Anakin as the chosen one was his main strive since his initiation in the Jedi Order.
@@LITTLE1994What I also like is that Palpatine hates lightsabers. He sees them as beneath a Sith Lord, yet we see him fight Jedi Grand Masters and Sith Lords like it’s nothing. Just goes to show how really raw and powerful Palpatine is that the only way he can be defeated is by way of the force not sword fighting.
Now THIS is what the people who refuse to watch this show because it’s animated are missing out on. Clone Wars has some of the greatest peaks in the franchise, without a doubt
This is exactly why people don't watch this show. Palpatine dual weidling lightsabers and doing corny stuff like moonwalk-stabbing Savage is almost as dumb as Yoda's gymnastics against Dooku.
@Irfan Alddin General Grievous isn't considered a Sith Lord, he was trained by Dooku but he's not one who can even use the force. Although he fights with lightsabers he's not actual Sith, he just works with them.
@Irfan Alddin I have to disagree. Sith Lord is just a term used to refer to dark side force users, or force users who followed Sith tradition. The title of a Sith Lord is Darth, and Dooku and Vader were both crowned Darth, while General Grievous, being a non-force user, cannot be a sith lord. Maul was a sith lord as Palps gave him the title, Darth Maul.
I love Palpatine here. He is just having the best of times when he is not having to deal with the Senate, a poor-running Republic, and feckless Jedi. This probably was like a major stress reliever for him
Sosa Bodiez he literally could’ve force choked her, or even just did what Snoke did and mind rape her, but nah let’s just zap her with a small bit of lightening 🤦🏻♂️
God, that movie was so painful -_- Also, one of the best parts about Maul as a character is how we learn that the Jedi weren’t the only ones being manipulated by the Sith and the Dark Side. Maul, an ex-apprentice of Sidious, was just as much of a victim of the Sith and Dark Side as others
any time Palps is one screen it's an absolute joy to see him ham it up and just have a blast. He was great in Jedi, Great in Revenge of the Sith, and Great in Rise of Skywalker. he just loves doing what he does.
@@jakeschwartz2514most dark side users still have some semblance of good in them and they only turned to the dark side due to trauma or external reasons but palpatine was just genuinely evil with no redeemable qualities or good in him
It’s always so funny to me that Palpatine CHOSE to have this lightsaber fight. He could’ve just ended it in seconds with his sheer strength in the force as soon as he walked into that throne room. The fact that he even chose to learn to use a lightsaber as a pure mockery of the Jedi and not only learn the basics but learn how to use it BETTER than a majority of the Jedi is even funnier.
He also could have killed Savage and Maul something like 8 times without even using the force during the duel. He was just holding back so he got more fun out of them.
Oh i always root for them. Doesnt everyone? Nobody wants to see the heroes, just the maniacal, brutal, interesting villains. Every ***FANTASY*** movie and show i have ever watched i always root for the villain. I WANT the heroes to die, although i know it wont happen.
He was laughing because of his arrogance and sadism. He believes he’s better than them. Which in this case is true because he did the hard work and mastered force and saber abilities. But a combination of hubris and sadism is why palpatine is always laughing during combat. He enjoys seeing others suffer
When I wanted to become dark lord of the Sith THIS is what I signed up for Cackling maniacally while I murder my apprentice's family to mess with him NOT sitting in an office working on trade agreements all day
I dont think people actually realise that maul could have ruled the galaxy if it weren't for this fight, not only was he a tremendous fighter, he was a brilliant strategist and politician which often gets forgotten. I think he learnt all this from his master, but ultimately he could have taken a lot more but, I don't even think we saw maul at his full power.
The whole story of Maul is about failure and wasted potential. He would have ruled the Galaxy and reformed the Shadow Collective in George Lucas Episodes: VII-VIII-IX. But as we see in Rebels and Clone Wars, Maul always got close to complete his goals, until he was defeated in the last minute. That is one of the reasons why his death in Rebels is so well made and tragic.
"So, Chancellor, how was your vacation?" “Oh, I met up with an old friend. He brought his older brother along. It was..." *[Maul screaming in agony as Force Lightning tears through his body]* " _Quite_ enjoyable."
@@swt7352 while I believe you ARE right I also think that just for a second Maul actually equaled Palps in lightsaber if only for a second before he shut that down.
1:58 Notice Maul's stance. Maul is a Juyo practitioner, aka, the most aggressive form of lightsaber combat, and had used it to defeat Qui Gon Jinn and even breakthrough Kenobi's defense However, in this battle, he takes the stance of Soresu, which is the most defensive form of combat Maul was so scared of Sidious, he took the absolute defense form over his normal form Loved that minor detail.
Not necessarily scared but was definitely smart to go on the defensive side, but then Savage was killed and the Maul actually gave Palpatine a bit of a challenge.
On one hand, I'm impressed that Maul was briefly able to solo against Sidious, who is one of the greatest lightsaber duelists in history. On the other hand, Sidious considers lightsabers to be a weakness and the Force to be the greatest weapon a person can use. So like, Maul was amazing and probably in his best fighting form, but Sidous was literally just toying with him.
04:19 is the only moment in the duel where Sidious seems to be strained at all. And it’s over and gone within a second. But the fact Maul was able to make his former master strain even slightly speaks volumes.
@@mlee7290 Sidious is way above a "sociopath." He's a maniacal, power hungry, sadist who has no sense of empathy. "Sociopaths" feel empathy. Sidious does not.
Hey if this is the last moment we see maul until season 7.....how is he free and still in control of everything he was if the emperor said “I have better used for you.” ?
We need more Sith vs Sith fights in Star Wars, the sheer aggression on their choreography, especially after Savage's death, is impressive: two force users, fuelled by rage and violence, going all out in the dark side with full intention to kill each other. We need more of this.
I like rewatching this fight. It's so detailed. During the whole duel, Sidious is more focused on Maul. Completely humoring Oppresses attacks. Since he is aware of Mauls familiarity with his blindspots and openings. It was only until Palpatine realized Maul was opening him up to allow Savage to take the first blow. A deception that only further insulted Sidious even more.
I’m guessing Mas Ammeda (the blue guy with horns we see occasionally) did have to make up some excuses along those lines while Palpatine/Sidious was out 😂
and interesting detail during the fight is that sidious was having a blast, laughing, and toying around with them when Savage was still fighting. As soon as Savage died, and it was Maul versus Sidious, he didn't laugh a single time, and locked in as if he respects Maul as a fighter significantly more than Savage
I gotta say, Sidious fights way more better in the Clone Wars than in Revenge of the Sith. This really shows how powerful Sidious is cause we’ve always just seen him as this old, wise guy on the sidelines, but when he’s doing stuff himself it’s crazy to just see the action he can pull
I also love the detail of how scared Maul is of Sidious. First hint was Maul recognizing Sidious almost immediately and proceeds to bow to him as Savage has like no idea what’s happening. And then he begs for mercy which is so unlike Maul it kind of shocked us. Just another detail to show how much power Sidious has
This is the kind of fight they wanted for him in the Prequels. But from I understand, George wanted Ian in the fights as much as possible. So he had to lighten the choreo.

It is nuts. Absolutely nuts this scene. I mean, Maul's a pretty nasty guy, plenty bad, but he has his motives despite his executions. But when Palpatine shows up, Maul is met with sheer, incomprehensible absolute evil. He plays with them, revels and chuckles as he stabs Opress. He's fast, an old man against two Zabrak warriors and not even breaking a sweat. It makes Maul look like a hero in this scene. And when you think about it objectively - Maul dualwielding with the darksaber against a spry dualwielding Palpatine under Mandalore. Definitely one of the most iconic fights in Star Wars.
This fight is so sweet, the fact maul had become such a threat that Sidious had to deal with him personally, the fact that he toyed with them, he could have killed them with just the force but was so confident in his abilities he decided to dual fight them, the fact he kills oppress and tortures maul, like a wild lion toying with his prey before killing it! It’s so good! I never really felt Palpatine was a threat in the movies like Vader if he tried hard enough could over throw him especially since windu bested him but the clone wars made me LOVE sidious! Like he was so good he could have taken the galaxy whenever he wished but constructed this convoluted plan to embarrass the Jedi and make themselves the architects of their own downfall ensuring they’d never rise again to full strength. What a bad ass
Sidious is so brutal in this fight, from impaling Savage and launching him off a cliff to force slamming Maul and electrocuting him even after he begged for mercy. I wish we could’ve seen more of this type of action from Sidious in CW or the films. Also goddamn form 7 looks clean asf with CW animation.
I always saw this moment as Palpatine looking at what Maul had and realizing he could be quite the annoyance to his plans. He also realized that there was no easy way of having either the Republic or the Sepratists to handle it. So what does he do? He takes his personal ship, flies down there himself and reminds his former apprentice who is in charge, and it sure as hell isn’t him.
Maul looks so defeated and numb when Palpatine begins speaking after he kills Savage. It's like Maul knew this would happen and is just so tired he can't even express anymore rage towards Palpatine

You're goddamn right orospçocu
indubitably.
That’s why I love Star Wars it doesn’t matter what gender, race or age you are it’s all insignificant to the power of the force.
How does this not have any comments yet xd
Great comment.
Your comment is great, but I don't get the point. Do you state that Sidious can't overpower Maul and Savage at the same time?
@@Darknesss490I think rather that he can’t easily duel them both at the same time, especially since they surrounded him. However, his connection to the force would always be his trump card in the fight, allowing him to decide where the engagement would take place (throne room, to announcement yard place, to in front of the mural) as well as how it would take place as well (his amount of opponents and their fighting styles). Although the Maul duo could at least concern him in terms of their physical capabilities, they were in no way able to even touch him in terms of their force capabilities.

“You have become a rival”
To be considered as a rival by Sidious, I think that’s actually a pretty good compliment.
Maul has done so much in so short a time. Had he gotten his way any further, his Shadow Collective would have been a threat to his own plans.
@Irfan Alddin General Grievous isn't considered a Sith Lord, he was trained by Dooku but he's not one who can even use the force. Although he fights with lightsabers he's not actual Sith, he just works with them.
Aaron Carlos Gonzalez I agree Grievous is more of a warlord, if anything.
@Irfan Alddin Grievous wasn't a Sith lord, and Vader was one of the most powerful Sith to have existed so I'm not sure what to make of this comment.
This probably was like a major stress reliever for him
He was probably imagining certain senators when he was killing the guards and fighting the brothers.
The fact that Palpatine openly admits that Darth Maul has become a “rival” to him says a lot about Darth Maul.

I think he learnt all this from his master, but ultimately he could have taken a lot more but, I don't even think we saw maul at his full power.
exactly why sidious went to mandalore personally to stop him from becoming a threat

A deception that only further insulted Sidious even more.

because the high ground worked so well for maul last time.
and interesting detail during the fight is that sidious was having a blast, laughing, and toying around with them when Savage was still fighting.

Disney Sidious: loses to the power of love/friendship/incest
i want to see a windu vs sidious duel scene in season 7.
prequels couldnt give enough credit to the character
Original Trilogy: Also got beaten by power of love.
@@sambridgers9543 i agree, they're both trash. All hail the prequels
@@BH-ix7nq I never even said anything about the quality.

Palpatine can hide his presence from the entire Jedi Order. He wanted Maul to know he was coming for him
Obi-Wan didn’t know he was there because of that and Palpatine used a landing pad that was hardly guarded, and the majority of Maul’s forces and Obi-Wan were busy fighting so that made it easier to get into the palace undetected
@@starwarsguy9803 This episode is also one of the times that Obi-Wan isn’t calm and collected; Satine just died. He’s clouded and consumed by the Dark Side
The Jedi suspected though? They even say the dark side surrounds the chancellor. Remember, the Jedi were also corrupt and their connection to the force was weaker. But yes, Sidious was an expert at hiding it.
Nah,the writers just made the Jedi incompetent
@@pamoweiberezi5315 This 😂
Palps was the only person I’ve ever seen force choke people with no actual movement.
I will never get tried of how much fun Sidious has being evil, usually villains are very one sided with emotion and it’s usually anger or sadness of some sort but Sidious is quite possibly the happiest person in the galaxy and its all because he purely enjoys being evil
You can tell Sidious got salty over Maul landing a solid kick and decided to show off his mastery of the force lol
Yeah if you watch it slow you can see he was pissed
He decided it’s time to stop playing with his food
Maul is weak yo. 🤣🤣🤣
It was Savage who did the kick
@@Zenocius Not in the 1 v 1. Palps lands a kick on Maul, and Maul gives one right back.
The fact Sidious was smiling the whole fight makes him that much more terrifying
Dude was probably having the time of his life
Sidious is so powerful he could've killed them both easily with his force power
The only reason he used lightsabers was for the excitement
He is like the joker
@@romancapulus5577 he had like a 7 inch boner while he was doing it my guy
Sidious hasn't had a lightsaber fight in years so this was entertainment for him.
“I used your training master.” I just realized this meant that Sidious taught maul how to cheat death.
The coolest thing in this is that there was a couple seconds were palpatine actually looked nervous after he killed savage, and Maul was the true threat against palpatine the entire time, you could see it on his face
Well, the Dark Side is fueled by negative thoughts. So it's only normal for Maul to become more angry and grief-stricken after Sidious killed Savage, thus more powerful
Palpatine's daily plan:
-Hold a meeting about the new law
-Sip some tea
-Talk to some diplomats
-Invade a planet and curbstomp its new leaders
-Prepare a speech for the next Senate gathering
