    I was invited by a Taiwanese businessman to a teppanyaki steak and lobster dinner in Kaohsiung a couple of years ago and he pulled out a bottle of Macallan 30 year old. IT WAS FUCKING AWESOME. it even went well with the dessert red bean crepe which was made from scratch by the teppanyaki chef. One of the greatest dinners of my life

      @@jirislovencik3936 yup we did. Two of us finished the bottle over the objections of our wives he he.
      The whiskey paired great with the seafood and veggies appetizers then with the main course steak 🥩 and lobsters then finally with the dessert red bean crepe.
      I'm telling you man I'm pretty sure that whiskey would have paired well with an old shoe. It was friggin great

      @jcurbin305 Год назад +1

      @marioimolina That's awesome. Wish I get the chance to try something like that one day. The reason I mention whisky versus whiskey is because there is a difference with the spelling. "Whisky" refers to the Scotch, Japanese, and Canadian spirits. "Whiskey" on the other hand refers to the American and Irish spirits. You'll notice the different spellings in the bottle labels.🙂👍

    wow! I've been waiting for this lineup discussion. Double cask was my first Macallan and I loved it. It really opened my eyes to non peated scotch and sherry cask world. I'm glad I grabbed the last bottle of special ed no 3. Also very good. I was a "nose" and chemist at a previous job and loved working with perfumed product so special ed no. 3 is definitely one I can appreciate. Can't wait to find no. 4. Now if I can only get my hands on the master series decanters because I love cool glass

    You guys did a good job on this guide for beginners. I hosted a tasting comparing the all the 12 year versions and all the 15 year versions, 5 bottles. Everyone liked the 12 double cask best and the sherry oak next. Funny. The 15's got no respect, lol. I like the 15, but I think the lack of sherry notes hurts it with some people. I love the Fine oak 17 and 18. They are also both supposed to be the same juice. To me they taste a little different, but that could just be the caskings used in each specific bottle.

    My adventures with the different expressions of the Macallan progressed as they released. Tried a 12yr, then 15yr, then jumped to the Rare Cask, which became my favorite. When the numbered Edition series started, felt the #1 was better than the Rare Cask IMHO. Then #2 displaced #1, then #3 displaced #2. #4 was still better than RC or #2, but not better than #3. #5 again very good, but #3 was still the winner. Kind of like holding on to the early memories of your first love. I now have a bottle of Edition #6, which I've read many very favorable reviews on, but still continue to seek #3 any time I find a new source for buying my whiskey. Like going back to your home town, after years living away, hoping to spot your first love out somewhere. But much like the expression regarding "never meet your heroes", finding that source would likely be met with, "sure we have a couple bottles of #3, they're on sale for $2,000/ bottle."

    • @Scotch4Dummies

      I wish we'd tried the Ed #1.... heard so many great things about it. We got our hands on a bottle of Mac 6 (not the edition, but the 4K+ bottle).... was decadent! But at what a cost! The Rare Casks are batched and the one we got was definitely NOT worth $299.... ~Mark

    Been drinking mostly bourbon until about a week ago where a friend shared his bottle of Macallan 12 YR and it knocked my socks off. With bourbon I can't ever really taste anything usually. The high alcohol content or the syrupy-ness of it always gets in the way of the flavor it feels to me. With the 12 yr single malt... I could actually pick out notes and taste the liquor, and I drank it neat easily.

    I've had The Macallan 12 and Double Cask. They are different. The Macallan 12 has that original alcohol strength on the palate, while the Double Cask has a lighter alcohol strength on the palate. They are both very very good! The Original would be my favorite since it is the standard, but the Double Cask would be the one to introduce newbies to Scotch. This is a really good idea, The Macallan 12 was my first love and when I heard about the new distillery I had to visit it. They done a few things (especially in the marketing department) that I don’t care for but they still remain a “go to” when visiting restaurant bars.

    I bought the Macallan 12 Sherry Cask in Sweden the other week for the equivalent of 56 USD. Absolutely love it so far (only tasted it twice). People find it overpriced, but at least 56 USD is decent to me since I love it. But maybe there are other options out there which are just as good and a bit cheaper (Glendronach 12?? Haven't tried it). Cheers guys!

      Welcome to the journey Travis! If you are into the Lagavulin you may like some of the smokey or peaty scotches. Any of the Islay scotches May be interesting to try. Maybe an Ardbeg or Laphroig would be interesting next. Check out some of our reviews for a more in depth breakdown.
