My grandfather drove us from Ak-Chin Arizona, to San Bernadino, California in the Monarch. The upholstery and the back windows made me feel special, being a poor kid that had never been out of my hometown before. I pretended I was being chauffered all the way there, and had a great time. Cars can be special for young people, take it from me.
Thanks so much. Just now read your comment. I do really enjoy owning this one. Takes me back to the year my wife and I got engaged. Special time in my life. Again, thanks.
Thank you so much for showing off this very beautiful specimen of a Mercury! I still believe that 1976 was the year everyone still had the right formula, but when Ford was great, they were REALLY great, and this car is solid proof! And I'm glad so many before you felt that same love for this car, too. Congratulations on one of the best automotive purchases I've seen here on RUclips and also congratulations to your wife, for one of the few most amazing gifts a wife ever gave to a husband! That handsome book that is not only a pleasure to the eyes, but one that validates an amazing buy on her husband's part! 🚗 📖!! 🐰
Thank you. Had to have this one. Was a reminder of some 70's cars I owned back then. Really takes you back to those days. Just turned 15000 miles on her the other day. Really enjoy driving it. Thanks again for your comment
This car is absolutely stunning. The red colored interior is just beautiful and luxurious. What is very strange about this specific car is that for a Ghia(luxury model), this car is fairly stripped. It doesn't even have the bumper protection group which gives you the rubber bumper inserts along the horizontal run of the bumpers. That was an option that i was sure standard on the Ghia but obviously not. No power windows, locks, or rear window defroster. The only 2 options i see is the center console with the floor shifter and the rally wheels. Personally i don't like a white exterior because these cars came with so many other luxurious color choices but it's still amazing to see this car survive.
Beautiful car, nice to see someone kept it up and took care of it. Back in the 90s I owned a Monarch ESS, I can't remember if it was a 77 or 78, I only owned it for a couple of weeks due to it had serious electrical issues and I didn't have the money to fix the electrical problem and the ball joints. I bought it as a project but as with most of my plans I could not afford it. Even though it was a sedan with a straight 6 I loved the car's design, my car had the square headlamps and it sort of looked like a Volvo 240 ,but with stacked headlamps. I wished that I could have kept it, you rarely ever see a Monarch. Great video I hope you do more videos.
Had a 75 four door in metallic brown . We liked the car very much except that there was a big leak where the firewall met the windshield cowl. Always thought it was a good looking car. The white and dark red vinyl top combo is very handsome. It's the same combo we had on our 78 LTD ii that replaced the monarch.
Thanks. I really enjoy this Monarch. It is a combination of some Fords and Mercurys I owned back in the 70's. Yes, I do like the colors also. Currently have a little over 15,000 on the odometer.
@@marktippitt5601 I would love to have a vintage car. I love the under loved cars. I don't think the monarch gets enough credit. It was one of the first "reduced size" that was designed to be big inside. It truly looked more expensive than what it cost. While I loved the first gen. sable, it steered american cars toward european style. The monarch was one of the last unabashedly "American" cars.
Instantly noticed the General Motors A6 a/c compressor. My great aunt had this exact color combination Monarch Ghia coupe back in the day with the same engine. I was surprised of it's quiet ride and smoothness. Great stereo also. Not surprising that Ford sold so many of these Monarchs and Granada's.
My dad had a plain Jane four door three speed auto column shift with the inline 6. Vinyl bench seat and all. Lasted about 120,000 miles before road salt killed it. Floated down the road. A friend back in ‘76 said that it rode like a Benz, not that he knew the difference lol.
Congratulations for the car, man. Very beautiful car. I was watching "10 to Midnight" last week and the car that Charles Bronson uses in the movie is this model. Fantastic.
Thanks so much. This Monarch is similar to others I had in the 70s. Never owned a Monarch, but glad I found this one. Is really a nice size vehicle to have.
Thanks so much. We once had a 1978 Diamond Jubilee Edition Thunderbird for a few years. Really comfortable car with lots of equipment. Hated to get rid of it, but noticed some rust appearing on the rocker panels (car was from Michigan and must have been in some salt).
Thanks so much. Owning this Monarch really takes me back to the late 70s. My wife and I dated and were engaged in 1976. Special year. Thanks again for the compliment.
Sweeeeeet ride!!!! You just don't see many Monarchs around at all. I had a '78 Granada 4 dr that had that same paint and trim package as your car basically.
Thanks. The car is not fully loaded with the options I mentioned. I wasn't real distinct in my talking. I actually said the car "doesn't" have all the power options I mentioned, which I don't really mind.
How funny. I didn't even read the description and was thinking what a time capsule. These would make pretty nice resto-mods with a coyote motor and modern suspension but, it would be a crime to do that to this car.
Yes I think so too. Those certainly have a great following but there's something special about a car, at least to me, that hasn't been changed and appears like it did back when it was new.
@@marktippitt5601 My '69 GTO is a 32 option numbers matching car that still looks original so there's no way I would ever resto-mod it. I like it the way it is.
Clearly absolutely brilliant condition, but it's doesn't look like it has electric windows or mirrors as you suggest, not judging by the window winders and mechanical adjuster for the driver's door mirror. However as I say absolutely mint condition. Incidentally how technology has moved on, here in the UK my daily runabout is a DS3 (DS is the premium brand of the French maker Peugeot/Citroen), which is about the size of a Mini, it's 1.2 litre turbocharged 3 cylinder engine produces 125 bhp, driving the front wheels through a six speed electronic automatic box!
I wasn't real clear in my speaking on those options I mentioned. I stated the Monarch "doesn't" have all those options, which I really don't need in my "toy". Sorry for the misunderstanding. Thanks for the comment.
That car spent it's time indoors with climate control. What I find unexpected is the 120 mph speedometer, with the 55mph law coming down in 1974. Most speedos maxed at 85mph.
What year is it? (1976, the brochures in the trunk indicated it.) And what engine does it have? (You mentioned it has a 302, thanks on that.) (11/2/2021)

You were telling me about this car at the barbershop this morning. It is as striking as you promised, and in good hands!

You have a beautiful Mercury Monarch there! Thank you for sharing this video.
Thanks for the compliment.
Just gorgeous Sir, you have an excellent eye for 70s Mercury vehicle.

Beautiful and pristine time capsule! That interior is amazing and the seats look as comfy and in some cases, more comfy as anything today..
Thanks so much. It is pretty comfortable for sure. Easy to drive also.
@@marktippitt5601 And I’m sure much easier, by far, to park than a ‘76 Bonneville hardtop sedan!

Beautiful time capsule you have there . I love these old cars especially from the 70s and 80s. I myself own a 1981 Oldsmobile Delta 88 sedan .
Thanks. Looks like there is a growing interest in these cars.
This Mercury reminds me of when I had one like it in 1986 in Torrance, California.
I was the owner from Massachusetts. I added a few options! She's a beauty!
It's a beautiful car. I had an S model, in a deep red in and out with black top. Bucket seats and console. Loaded up. 302
This was my first car, black on black with a moon roof. Loved it!

Thank you. Too bad about the ESS you had. Those have to be the rarest these days.
The ESS model is super rare today. Probably the most collectable and worth the most money. Sad you didn't keep it.

Thank you for making this. There's not enough Monarch/Granada vids. Awesome video :)
Thanks.
Beautiful Monarch! Show room new, unlike mine which has been a daily driver in Michigan for all it's life.
Thanks so much for the compliment.
I’m restoring the last Granada Survivor in Honduras, just because I want to bring memories back of my childhood.
Congratulations for the car, man. Very beautiful car.
I was watching "10 to Midnight" last week and the car that Charles Bronson uses in the movie is this model. Fantastic.
Thanks. Will have to check out that movie.
Yes, all white wall tires had a blue protective coating like you see on the spare. It wore off quickly as the tire was used.
Nice car. I always thought the Mercury Monarch looked better than its FoMoCo siblings, the Ford Granada and Lincoln Versailles.
Thanks so much. This Monarch is similar to others I had in the 70s. Never owned a Monarch, but glad I found this one. Is really a nice size vehicle to have.
I always liked the Monarch Granada.
Very nice car! I have a 1979 Ford Thunderbird with the same engine in it.

I would LOVE to have that car
I've had 4 of them . I had a 1978 Grenada Gia 2 door , Un fortune it Caught Fire because of rubber fuel line split
Beautiful.
Thanks so much. I appreciate it.

I’d like to buy this and will make it worth your while
That is a nice car!

The blue on the white wall was a protective coating.
True. I assume this to be the original spare, from all indications. Thanks
Nice. Car. !! Yell. I'd. Keep. It. !! Nice 😮

the Cadillac of Mercuries!

It is a 1976 with the 302. Thanks for your interest.
wow that's nice
Thanks so much for the nice comment.
👍👍👍
Thanks
Are you sure those side view mirrors are original? I could've sworn that those models came with chrome mirrors.
They are optional equipment on many of the Ford and Mercurys of that era, usually on the sportier models, as this Monarch is.
@@marktippitt5601 ok
Steve, I also checked my Marti report, and the mirrors were original for the Monarch. Thanks for your interest.
It need a cigarette lighter ! Jake Elwood.
There is one in the ash tray under the dash. Works to.
I have a 78 Granada ESS. 302 with a factory 4 speed. I sent my clock out and had it repaired. Its been working fine for years now..
The ESS you have has to be a rare one indeed. Need to hang on to that one. I could have the clock repaired somewhere, maybe someday. Thanks
