That's because he doesn't trim for a month at a time. The best growth comes from 6 to 8 weeks of painful waiting. You can do it man.

Anyone else feel like that first month of growing out your beard is the hardest? It took me years to finally just say fuck it and let it grow past a month, after about 5 weeks it looks so much better.

I like seeing these weekly updates. Although we differ a little bit on approach as I am in the team of not shaving neck as quickly, it just goes to show that there are a Multitude of different approaches. Keep on growing!
We definitely wanted to try something a little different with this series. It’s really nice to see all the positive feedback we’ve gotten from it. I chose to trim up the neckline after 30 days because I knew my beard was just going to get less shapely and more unruly. Plus, I wanted to show the viewers how to define their lines relatively early in the series. Glad you enjoyed it!

Hey Jack, loving these videos! I'm 26 years old growing my first beard ever, i've been clean shaven for practically my whole life. I'm almost 2.5 weeks in and have gotten nothing but compliments even throughout the awkward stage. Based on the comments already it looks like I don't need to mention that this dude is clearly a freak of nature (in the most complementary way possible) when it comes to growing facial hair.
Dudes trying to grow a beard: unless you're genetically very gifted, you're not going to look like this guy does so early on. Give yourself 13 weeks of untrimmed growth to get a real look at how capable of growing a beard you are.
I have good beard genes I can grow a beard but I never really grew one until now but it’s worth it cause I feel like I look better thanks for tips on lining it up cause I need them!

I have a 2" round bald spot right under my chin its so annoying. I kind of brush the surrounding hair towards to to cover up. First time growing a beard and my dad never grew one so it's kinda new territory

i think the hardest part about the neckline is to get it symmetrical on both sides. More than once have i found myself fucking up one side because i wanted to get it in line with the other one. Had to regrow it. You actually have a littel bald spot above the adams apple, right where you've started with the razor, so thats a nice point of reference there. I wish my growth was as dense as yours, but I'm currently on minox and it actually works! Really curious on how your mustache will grow in this year!
Symmetry is always a super tough thing to keep in line with a beard. I find that this is a very good reason as to why many men only let their barber/stylist give them a trim or shaping. My face is already pretty asymmetrical (you can really see that in the difference between my eyebrows) so luckily it's the end of the world if one side of my beard is a little wider than the other.
But, I really hope that the Minox works for you and that your beard continues to come in great!

Im at the 30 day mark, and i can't line up the bottom without messing it up and having to start over! It never fails, so i have no choice but to let it all grow. As much as I want to line it up on the bottom, i can't. And there's no barber around here that i trust enough, So I'm forced to grow my yeard homeless style.
I trim my neckline everyday or mostly everyday. Do that from day ONE.

Wish I had this a few weeks ago.
Is shaving the neckline at 30 days recommended or earlier? When do most trim the neckline? I've had a few no-shave stints of 6 weeks and each time I was ready to shave because my neck looked messy and the itch was bothering me some (I didn't use beard oils or anything).
My personal recommendation (and how I was taught) is 30 days.
That way you can truly see how much and where the hair will grow.
BUT, if you already know where your strengths and weaknesses, you can
actually shave in the neckline a little earlier.

Beardbrand Thanks! I have another related question. I shave my head about once or twice a week with barber clippers. I shave my sideburns if it was from my scalp growth, but try to avoid beard sideburns. Seems to be a gray area. My beard sideburns only go to the very bottom of my ear lobe. Should they be higher?
Is there a good rule of thumb?
The cheek line is more easy to do but the neck line is something i was always scared to do. Thanks man , this video made it much much easier : 2 fingers and then make a semi circle curved shape. :)

SO MANY guys are making the mistake of shaving all the way up to the jawline. It makes your neck look fat and face small, WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT? xD
I think a lot do it because they have a lot of patchy spots on the neckline so they make it higher to avoid it. Kind of a catch 22.
Some maybe but most of them probably think that's the best way to "get a clean look"

Looks great at a month Jack. You sure can grow quickly. Takes me nearly 2 months to get to where you are at now. I️ like that dip in the cheekline. Makes it look original! This is going to be great to watch the series. I’m more interested once you get about 6 months in to see how you deal with keeping it tidy as it gets longer!

Guys, the best method I found for the neck line is to do it exactly where your Neck meets your head . This works for double chins as well.
I'm 23 and my beard doesn't even compare to yours. However, my dads beard is VERY dense with great coverage. My moms side can grow more than me too. Not sure how I didn't get a great beard lol.

The hair on one side of my cheek and jaw grows upward while the other side grows downward but have been using beard oil and the hair on that side has already started to soften and grow downward like the other side. Never used beard oil in the past but lemme tell you it definitely works wonders it has actually given me piece of mind knowing the hair has already started training to grow the correct direction. Maybe I can resist shaving it off now. Beard oil beard oil beard oil...What it's all about.

If I messed up on my neck line and shaped it up to high do I have to trim my beard down and start over? Or can I just let it grow back and just make sure to not take it up to high the next time? Please help how do I go about this? I don't want to have a complicated and dysfunctional beard.

I was worried that I had been trimming my beard too short, and then applied the 2-finger method. Turns out I’m on point, haha.
As long as you like the way it looks, it looks good. If you think it's too short, try cutting it a little higher

Ur too gassed of it urself. It’s not even sharp. U haven’t cleaned up ur cheek bones properly and u should of went higher on the neck line cos rn it looks like u gained a few pounds. So go higher on the neck line just below ur jawline to look sharp and makes u look more healthy
I do not understand this trend of men shaving their entire neck all the way up to the jawline. It looks ridiculous and defeats the point of having a beard to begin with. If you shave your neck that high, you haven't grown a beard. You've grown a big goatee.

Jack, what blades are you using in the double edge?
Right now, I'm using Van Der Hagan blades. I used to use Derby blades but found that they were getting too dull every time I would shave.

Every neckline is different, because some of us have cowlicks under the chin/on the neck. Just keep the neckline at least low enough to conceal the double chin

I just use clippers for all grooming. The addition of a straight razor and cream seems unnecessary imho.
I think you should have left the beard untouched without any trim or shave was coming in perfect
