About string silencers...placement it critical. If you approach the sound problem using the heterodyning principal it can make a big difference. Placing 1 silencer 1/4 the distance from end of string to center & placing a 2nd silencer 1/3 the distance from the end of the string to center on the other side will cancel out both even and odd heterodyned frequencies stopping the string from ringing like a stringed musical instrument. I use the method on my traditional longbows & recurves. the sound goes from twang to thump.
Have shot crossbows for over 35 years. Have shot doe's and multiple bucks. Not sure why, but my experience, a doe tends to react more often than bucks do to the sound of the crossbow. I totally agree with taking shorter shots (25 yards or less in my opinion) and recommend to aim lower 1/4 of the torso height. Just because a fast crossbow can shoot flat and accurately at longer ranges doesn't mean shooting animals that far is a good idea. My experience with quietening a crossbow is mostly limited to putting the rubber spider legs on the string. It actually does two things. It makes the crossbow a little quieter, but mainly, it drastically shortens the duration of the sound, or the "twang". I think this shortened sound may be less alarming to a deer. With the rubber spider legs, instead of the long "boiiiiing", the crossbow just goes "bonk". Heavier arrow set up reduces the sound also, like you said and carries more momentum for penetration. Thanks for sharing.
*I once owned a BARNETT compound crossbow. That one was nothing but problems... Loud, inaccurate, screws constantly vibrating loose. MY Barnett was a horrible bow. I NOW have an EXCALIBUR re-curve crossbow and I very much prefer the simpler design of EXCALIBUR Re-Curve. I can swap out the string or remove the string for off season storage without an expensive trip {or two or three or more}... to the pro-shop. My cams never go out of time or break on Excalibur... because there are no cams to fail or give aggravations. I suggest you consider Excalibur. They offer numerous models.... just pick one you like ... get some HEAVY Aluminum XX75 2219 arrows or EASTON FMJ arrows and some 150 grain broad-heads...and enjoy it. For Deer, Moose, ELK and small bears... Any Excalibur currently offered at 300 fps or faster 'advertised speed', should be plenty. Lighter arrows and lighter broad-heads will shoot faster... but, speed is not everything. DURABILITY. PENETRATION and ACCURACY are what I consider as most important.... Any speed over 220 fps is plenty enough to take deer. IF, { Yes, 'IF' } I were going after Big BEAR, Northern MOOSE, Monster ELK, African KUDU, Cape Buffalo, Northern North American Bison, ELEPHANT etc.... I might want more speed and weight... such as the new Excalibur 440 bow....with 600 to 800 grain or heavier arrows. Slash arrows {made in TEXAS} with the extra cutting edges do have an appeal. Presently, my IBEX SMF is sending a 515 grain arrow at 275 fps and penetrating very well. I find it to be quite satisfactory. The newer GRZ-2 or Micro 308 short should perform equally well and be a bit smaller for ease of transport and use.*
@@jmartin9059 I've hunted with a barnett whitetail hunter 2 for 3yrs now-not issues at alllll. It's accurate to about 55yds and has plenty of speed. Everytime I shot something the bolt goes straight on thru. I'd say the newer ones are better then the old ones. Oh yeahhh I bought mine for $258 on Amazon lol it was on sale
Very articulate clear instruction. Love your sponsor, clover. Any company would be lucky to have you rep or sponsor their products. Have a safe season!
Great info Rich. I’m re-watching this video and enjoying it. My excalibur shoots 330 ft./s with the standard firebolt arrow and 100 grain broadhead. But from day one I’ve been shooting 150 grain bolt cutters. I added a 100 grain brass insert to my arrow. I’m going to try this set up before the bear hunt starts the spring. All my shots are 20 yards and under. This should reduce my crossbow speed to roughly 298 feet per second not unlike the speed of bungee. This in order to quiet down crossbow, add momentum, i’ve never had problem with Passthrough in the past. You can never over kill an animal. This will increase the ark of the arrow, does not affect me in the big picture. If I was to replace my excalibur I would not increase the speed above 360 ft./s. Model. Loaded up with more front of centre weight to increase momentum and to quiet the bow down my shooting 325 or so feet per second. I love my Vortex Excalibur. I digress thanks again for the video Rich.
I have the same crossbow. My dad bought it new and it’s absolutely incredible. He has given it to me as of last year. He’s my awesome hunting buddy. I love the channel and send a huge thank you for you sharing your knowledge. All hail bunjie!!!
Loved to see the 20yd decibels! Love to see you add common sense to a profit driven market. Killed my first buck near Cherry Grove, I am 54, and live in NC, and my mind still loves to wonder up Rt 62.
If you were not already aware, there are apps on smart phones that measure decibels with a timer graph so you can easily distinguish ambient baseline to release of arrow to sound of arrow strike
Good video man. In-depth, informative & well explained. Marginal effectiveness. There is another method to prevent a deer hearing a crossbow when fired - Led Zep at high volume on a 500 watt sound system. Guaranteed deer won't hear the crossbow
Hi Rich, the biggest cause of twang on an Excalibur crossbow is the actual rail. It’s a hollow tube and it really amplifies sound. If you were to take a piece of neoprene to the inside and stuff it in there. I stuffed about a third of the rail with it.
I have needed shoulder replacement for 13 years and about the same time wanted to bow hunt. Just bought my first crossbow, because I can't hold back and be steady anymore, and I cant wait. Been watching your videos and am impressed with your knowledge and candor on crossbows. Keep up the good work, keep posting videos, and all hail Bungie.
To test the noise level at 20 yards in front of the crossbow safely, you could put your meter at 20 yards, but actually be shooting a target at 40 yards. Having the target an additional 20 yards beyond the meter would greatly reduce the influence of the sound of the bolt hitting the target and skewing the results. I appreciate your videos and the effort and honesty in each of them!
Great video. I'd love to see a Chrono to see what the mods due to arrow speed. What most folks don't think about is that the speed of sound is constant (it loses intensity or becomes quieter over distance but never loses speed) the arrow on the other hand loses speed quickly. As you said shorter shots are better. At 30 ft ANY sound will reach the deer at .26 sec. An arrow at 300fps takes a full second. So the deer has .74 seconds to respond. At greater distances the arrow slows and gives exponentially more time for the animal to respond. Dampening sound doesn't change that time, only banks on the fact that it won't be loud enough to spook a deer. Also would love to see the dB of simply shooting from inside a blind. That fabric will absorb a good bit of sound and would be cool to see how that stacks up to all those expensive mods. Thanks again for an awesome vid!
Richard excellent video thank you. In regards to airbrakes in the front, just remove the pads at the end of the season prior to unstring your bow. There is no need to loosen the limbs, tampering with the limbs could possibly misaligned them in the future. The pads are tapered in shape remember putting them back in the same way next time you string your bow. I’ve been doing this for years no problems. I shoot a Vortex Excalibur crossbow. If I ever replace my Vortex , it will be a bulldog 330. This crossbow is smaller yet easy to caulk. Unlike the micro crossbow, that are challenging the caulk. Excalibur also makes a big foot steer up that is rubberize, this makes it nice with my winter boots.
Great video.. I just bought my first ever ×bow ... after watching this I'm so glad I didn't spend ( not that I could anyway) a crap load of money on a bow I got the new bear karnage line 280$ fully loaded.... I love it even more now
Rich! Great breakdown of the subject! My nephew had a deer duck an arrow from my Matrix 335 last fall at 25ish yards. I have installed some vibration and noise dampening gear on it but deer have an incredible reaction time. I do not take shots farther than 35 yards at deer with archery gear. Too much can go wrong. Even 25 yards is a long way through the woods for an arrow or bolt.
You have the best crossbow Channel. It's entertaining and informative. And you're teaching with recurve not the latest whiz-bang compound. The new sound, while much quieter, is all so much shorter in duration, at least to my ear. I think that will help as well. Great video!
Here is a tip to help check your bolts/screws. Go into your wife's finger nail polish and get her rd nail polish ( any color will do, other than, black, brown or any color that you have a hard time seeing ). After you tighten the screws up apply it and wait for it to dry ( check it regularly for cracks, if it is cracked the screws have come loose, ) so re-tighten them and repeat. ) Be careful not to get into the allen wrench or screw holes. I found that red works best.
I just bought the Axiom from Ebay and made the same modifications 7/25/18 for sound dampening before knowing about this video. I used a meter to as we added first the Excalibur Crossbows 1966 S5 String Shock Sound Suppression System then tested, then the Dissipator Bars then tested, then the complete Sound Deadening System then tested. The thing I noticed at the end was the trigger makes the most noise now and I am looking for ideas to deaden that? It is really all you hear now except the arrow hitting the bull's eye! Also, vibration went down to nothing and wish there was some way to measure that! Limbs should last longer. Weight went from 7.50lbs to 8.30lbs Credit goes to Bass Pro shops for helping me. Another great video!
You can measure vibration with a tool called a digital vibration meter. They do that for some of the outdoor life articles when they review bows. Way Beyond my pay grade though LOL. But yes there's a lot less vibration and that's the important thing.
Great vid as always brother. I do appreciate you not advertising just one companies products ! The difference of the sound at 20 yards I picked up on immediately, even with my 61 year old ears. No metallic clunk, more of a thump. Just that in itself is going to be less startling to any animal. I do have to question the db reading at 20yds with silencers. I feel the db meter was picking up on the arrow impact too. Regardless the change in the sound too me is what is going to make the biggest difference. Shot placement, is also what counts, if your shooting at a animal who is on edge, then you had better aim a bit lower for sure. There was a study already done years ago about how fast a deer can react. At 25 yards a deer can drop 4x its body height before an arrow at 270 fps could reach it. Looking forward to what that vid you talked about reveals. Happy hunting season !
I really think it sounds better, too, and the reason we were off to the side instead of in front of the crossbow was to make sure we were picking up the crossbow and not the arrow. With field points it isn't as loud as those Broadhead thwacks either LOL.
Oh yeah, I hear ya or them :) ... you can really tell the difference when I hit my 3D target with a broadhead compared to a field point. But if a deer or whatever hears that, well its just too dang late then :p
Great video.im new to the crossbow world.been a coumpound guy for 25 years now! I have found that im not as steady as i use to be & my shots are no longer past 20 yrds because my eyes arent as good as they use to be.that being said i just purchaced my first crossbow.horton legend 2. 175 lb pull.im driving tacs from 20-50 yrds.i cringe every time i pull the trigger because of the loud sound it makes!!! Im use to silence when i relese.this helps me understand that i defintly am fixing to dampen the s##t out of this crossbow.thanks buddy.
I bought the excalibur axiom back in 2014 its an awesome bow had to had the sound dampers what a difference they made still haven't killed a deer with it yet bought a Barnett brotherhood at the same time use that one the most
Taping the stirrup definitely helps, got round cloth fuzzies that stay on helps but heavier arrows have made the most sound reduction in my opinion. I am using 300gr vpa broadheads with the stock arrows with minimal drop change.
Another great video! I was surprised to see the difference between the sound next to the crossbow an 20 yards away. I know the sound is very different shooting the crossbow with the gear on. I have noticed on my crossbow the speed of the arrow is also changed, unsure how much though but I know it changes. (Maybe a idea for a video before Maryland hunting or you take everything off) Good luck hunting! Be safe.
I will post something soon about the difference in speed. Very good question. I was also very surprised at the difference at 20 yards. That, to me, is a bigger deal than the difference with the new gear on there.
I’ve been reading a lot of comments. I was looking for this question. I would be very interested in the difference in speed before and after all the gadgets. Great video!
Regarding your dissapators (air brakes on a micro), there's no need to remove the "hardware" when removing the string for storage. All that is required is to remove the two rubber pads, by removing the two allen screws on each.
Great video Rich, you really did your homework on this topic. I think I'll just leave my crossbow the way it is and forget about all the sound dampening stuff. Thanks.
Not sure I can argue with that! I probably will get back to that point someday. But it'll be need to try it out at least at the beginning of the season. Good luck out there!
Thanks for covering this topic in depth. I used similar quieting products on my Wicked Ridge Warrior Crossbow. I shot it side by side with my friends Wicked Ridge Invader that had no quieting equipment on it. Mine was very noticeably quieter. More of a dull thud like yours. Only made two shots last year. After each shot i stayed quietly in my stand for an hour before trying to make a recovery. I never saw any more deer those two days. Just my two cents. I do enjoy shooting it more with the silencing equipment, much less of a harsh unnatural sound.
that's where i'm hoping this will make some difference--in those moments right after the shot. we'll see (based on what you're saying, no, but we'll see what Maryland and Pennsylvania deer have to say about it lol) Good luck out there!
Death by Bunjie good luck to you too, i will be watching to see your results this season. My results may not mean anything, many times i have gone out and not seen any deer all day( unfortunately ).
I am in agreement with your results with what I have seen in my past seasons. I hunt in the mountains of South-Western Virginia/North-Eastern Tennessee and if you take a shot with several deer in the area, they are going to react just like you set off a stick of dynamite. The only way that I get a 2nd shot that day is if some deer travel in from another ridge or bottom and were not exposed to the previous discharge..
that's one advantage that I'm hoping to see. If I shoot a deer at 5:30 and another one comes in that was a hundred yards away and didn't hear it at 6 for example maybe that would work. It might help in that respect.
Really enjoyed this and found it helpful. I own two older Excal's, an Exomax and a Equinox. This video gave me several ideas on what I could do to quieten them. I appreciate it!
I got a center point 370 sniper this year, my grandson got a new bear compound bow, we both have put noise dampeners on both, I downloaded a free noise decibel app for for fun, we both shot our equipment, and my crossbow was actually quieter than his bow. Not saying it was precise, but it shocked me. Anyway around it, no matter what the sound , I love my new crossbow. Can't wait to take my 1st deer with it, praying it's a huge one. Ha ha.
I have some of the dampers stuff on mine and it has helped. Not crazy tremendously but helped. It mainly helped the twang and vibration, which made the crossbow more comfortable to shoot.
Great vlog. I have the old Exomax Excaliber crossbow. I have Limbsaver mushrooms on the limbs and string bumpers. I find the release mechanism is the loudest part of shooting. I am looking into a Trigger Tech Trigger/Release mechanism. Fuzzies won’t stay on the string.
I have done a fair share of trying to deadening the sound of my Excalibur BD 400. Couple things one the ex-shox I have tried 4 times to keep them on but after a bit of shooting they come off. Excalibur was awesome and even sent me new pairs to replace the ones that flung off. Another thing instead of electrical tape I use heat shrink especially on the arrow retention . It is a very clean look. The air breaks are the most effective at deadening the sound but it is also the heaviest and all the way in the front. Thanks for the videos
Good vid Rich i also dont ever shoot over 30 yards ,every deer but one I've shot was 20 yards or under the one was 27 yards. I thought your bow sounded lots different i was shocked how different it sound. Thanx
As a new crossbow hunter coming over to extend my hunting season I will say tone has a lot to play. Owning several suppressors for my handguns and rifles I can confirm this as the tone from a 22 with my sparrow is about 110 112 db but with my 300 blk and my omega and a 220 gr rem core brand ammo in getting 112 to 114. 22 sounds like a clap will 300 sound like a book dropped on a hardwood floor
Great video, it certainly makes it clear that all these "dampeners" might make the user feel a sense of accomplishment, but to the deer it makes no difference. On another note, I'd be interested to know if it would make a difference if you'd rotate your "limp savers" 22.5 degrees, so that the "knobbies" are perpendicular to the bow limbs. Meaning that four (two on each limb) point away from and two point towards the shooter. Just a thought.
I also have an Axiom and have been wondering if it would be worth the money to add all that stuff, you just answered my question. Great info, saved me a bunch of money, thanks !
Funny thing is I'm still using most of the stuff. Kinda like the new sound, and not as much vibration... and it might make some difference in the woods, wait and see the video that I post this week at least. I don't think there's any way to know for sure 100% whether it makes any difference in the end though.
@@Deathbybunjie I belong to the crossbow hunting group on Facebook and I saw a guy using the X-Factor rap around the limb suppressor and he told me they make a difference. So I went to Wal-Mart and purchased a set of them for under $15.00. It did make a difference. I plan on finding something to put on the string and let it go at that. I do have a question for you. Of all the stuff you put on yours, what is the one thing, in your opinion, made the most difference for the vibration ? Thanks
I enjoyed this video so much I subscribed. I too like to hunt with crossbows. I have a Excalibur Vortex and really like it. Save your money that you would spend trying to quieten any crossbow and use it to buy a good pair of rubber hunting boots. I have wasted too much trying to quieten my crossbow...
great video sir. I appreciate the time you took and in depth look . i need to find a broadheads that I know is going to fly true so I can get my crossbow sighted in pronto !!! what do you think about the old slick tricks or suggestions?
You hit the nail right on the head, I think accuracy is number one. If it flies straight you should be fine. For what it is worth I am doing a video on broadheads here shortly. If you look back at my Maryland hunt last season you'll see why I am revisiting Broadhead choice.
This is one of the videos I been waiting for. If anything else Bungie needed some new “clothes “ just like we need new camouflage. Makes him look better. I have it on my crossbow also. Don’t really know if it makes a difference but I’d like to think it does. Now the next video I’m waiting on is which broadhead are u going with this season Rich?? Any hints?? I think we have about 43 more days till opening morning and I cannot wait 🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌
Great content Rich, I'm surprised u went all out after so many years of bone stock bunjie lol! I can tell u that I tried 90% of those add ons and am only left with the dissipator bars and some inner tube tied on both sides of the stirrup. I removed everything else as it really decreases speed and trajectory, I felt like their were too many variables to change the point of aim. Through my testing on my axiom I was really surprised at how little it took to shift the point of aim and am sure this applies to all bows. I guess I'm a KISS kinda guy "keep it simple stupid " lol!!! 👍👍👍😃
Locks Bog yeah, I'd be curious to see what what impact each made on the sound. For example if the dampeners are doing 80% of the work, is the trade off worth it? Great video Rich.
In regards to the linguistics, "deceed" is technically viable as an option due to the bastard nature of the English language, but I believe the convention would be to say "subceed". To measure decibels at 20 yards, you could always measure the sound from 20 yards to the side or even behind the shooter.
I have the Bulldog 440 and I chronoed the bow with the sds and Airbrakes kit while using 350gn’s bolts the bow still shot 435FPS. So for me it want much of a change for me so I’m ok with getting 435FPS. It didn’t kill the speed of my bow. I would never by another bow other than a recurve by Excalibur.
Excellent video, still pertinent 4 years later (more pertinent as we all drink the 400fps+ Koolaid?). Question, though - what is the piece of equipment mounted on the front/top of your scope (you lay your hand on it at 5:54). Is that a peep site?
And like you say what the crossbows that I have I have put dampeners and things on them to quiet them down and I have been able to get two deer in the same day in about 20 minutes apart so my crossbows are shooting quiet enough with the stuff that I use on mine to where it doesn't I don't shoot it one shot and blow the whole entire day and you will find that out too and your test good luck this year
One thing you didn’t touch on was the change in the speed of Bungie that would be good to know. I really enjoy your videos looking forward to new ones on hunting soon.
I think the problem is you're hitting the target when the point of the exercise is what if you miss the target. If you miss then you won't have the sound of impact. The reason it's still so loud at 20 yards is you're pretty much the same distance from the target which is making the same amount of noise. You need to have the arrows/bolts sail off to land far away at a low speed.
Interesting thoughts... I think it was still accurate though, the sound at target would not change, but our readings showed the difference with and without.
Im new to all this so, Dunno much but my question after wacthing your video is: Is it right to compare your recurve crossbow with a Compound bow ? Should you compare the sound to another normal Recurve Bow instead of Compound ? I would like to see a video showing us the Sound difference from each Bow/Crossbow model Normal Bow Recurve Bow Compound Bow Crossbow Recurve Crossbow Compound Anyway great Video and your explanation are simple to follow and straight.
good question, i see your point BUT i think it's a fair comparison because I only care about them as hunting implements. in other words, how do they stack up in terms of volume afield. no doubt there are some important considerations between each model, but i already have my crossbow picked out lol.
I agree that deer will react to the sound the same amount in time but a more of a thud instead of a twang or clank makes a huge difference. Deer on edge or public land deer react differently than calm private land deer which can allow you to get a second shot. A crossbow cocking mechanics creates alot of time and movements which is the largest detriment of the second shot. One may or may not ever have the opportunity with a crossbow but hand cocking will make it harder.
Deer are a little bit different everywhere, that is for sure! I notice they are more on edge here in northeastern Pennsylvania than they are in Maryland, for example. I don't have a lot of experience all over the place but I sure notice a difference. Thanks for the input and good luck out there!
Great video! Well presented and great breakdown on improvements. I'm in the market for my first crossbow and I guess my very first question would be: which is quieter between a compound and recurve crossbow? I see that your preference is recurve. Sound aside, it goes without saying that a recurve is simpler and better suited to working on yourself if you're so inclined....
Generally you will find out that are compounds are quieter oh, but they aren't all created equal, be sure to try out any crossbow before you buy one and make sure it's suitable
Right on rich great vid always wanted to no it all the extra stuff for excalibur was worth the monie i guess i should buy it thanks for the awesome vid god bless you big guy
Ignoring sound reduction, what would be the best way to reduce vibration without comprimising speed? What products would you recommend? Thanks again for a great video.
The stirrup. Gets rid of that vibration after the shot. Secondly, maybe going to 150 grain broadheads instead of 100 grain. The heavier Arrow will reduce the vibration of the string some what I think without adding things to the string that will slow down the bow.
I'm new to crossbows , I'm glad I found your channel! Great content! Very informative and well done. I'm subscribing. Are those string stoppers universal? I have a Barnett Brotherhood compound crossbow. I contacted Barnett but have had no reply as of yet.
Will try Easton xx75, 20” bolts with 300 gr broadheads soon. Am looking to moose hunt next year. What do you think about Easton full Metal Jacket Bolts?
I realize this is an older video but I agree 100% even as of 2021 these crossbows have become 400+ and even some 500+ Ft/sec. and nothing has changed as far as "loudness". Theres too much stored energy in a tight little package. I have a older Horton crossbow and have tried about every gadget there is to try to "quiet" it down and to the naked ear there is no difference. Like you said, make a reasonable distance shot and make it a good one. Probably upgrading to a Ten Point Turbo S1 and I doubt it will be any quieter than this ancient Horton is
Saw a bow that had a piece of shrink wrap on the tip of the spring steel that supports the bolt on the riser. I wonder if my Tactacam is also a "tuning fork" similar to the stirrup?
Thank you so much for the common sense approach to reaction to sound (the shorter shot) Now can you get it through some of these folks that time of flight be it arrow or bullet gives time for a misplaced strike!
I may conduct experiments within a ground blind using a decibel meter, I would assume the blind would absorb or at least reduce some of the noise at a distance. Perhaps bunjie could be as quiet or close to as quiet as a compound bow from within a ground blind
I'm sure it makes some difference and I thought about that, too. However, my concern is that because you shoot out of the front and the deer is in front of it that it would act more like a megaphone LOL. I do notice deer hear very faint noises like rustling within the blind a lot better than they would if you were just out in the open. Just speculating though.

Just found your site. Finally, someone who talks scene about crossbow problems. Hope to see more on the topic of crossbows!!
Tons more coming, thanks!
Killed my first buck near Cherry Grove, I am 54, and live in NC, and my mind still loves to wonder up Rt 62.
how cool is that, those memories are what it's all about
Just the man i wanted to see cover this topic.
Glad to hear it, thanks and thanks for watching!
Glad to hear it, thank you very much and thanks for watching
If you were not already aware, there are apps on smart phones that measure decibels with a timer graph so you can easily distinguish ambient baseline to release of arrow to sound of arrow strike
Well that's pretty cool thanks
Good video man. In-depth, informative & well explained. Marginal effectiveness.
There is another method to prevent a deer hearing a crossbow when fired -
Led Zep at high volume on a 500 watt sound system.
The old trick for treestands is spray foam and it works pretty well.
Thank you so much for this and good luck!
I really enjoy watching all your videos! I've finally decided to buy my first crossbow this week!
Thanks again, Brian from Indiana
Great to hear good luck!
The trade off:silence over speed.I'll take silence!!!
Lots of truth to that, but also in this day and age there are some pretty quiet faster crossbows, 400 ft per second and above
On the arrow retention spring you can use heat shrink.
You definealty have the perfect announcer's voice! Great video!
Well thanks for that and thanks for watching!
That's an interesting point about the sound not slowing down the way that the arrow slows down, thanks for that
The meter means nothing. But that hearing test is priceless.
I love the big stirrups, fits all but my absolute biggest and most insulated boots. Very good tips here, thank you very much!
You are correct on the brace height transferring more energy into the arrow to quiet the bow down
Very informative thank you
Great video.. I just bought my first ever ×bow ... after watching this I'm so glad I didn't spend ( not that I could anyway) a crap load of money on a bow I got the new bear karnage line 280$ fully loaded.... I love it even more now
Glad to hear it, there's a ton of great crossbows out there. Good luck out there!
Words to live by, thanks and thanks for watching. Good luck to you and your family out there.
And yet the bolts out of my Xbow don't start dropping til 65+ yards...
This guy is really good! Speaks from experience
Thanks for watching!
You have the best crossbow Channel. It's entertaining and informative. And you're teaching with recurve not the latest whiz-bang compound. The new sound, while much quieter, is all so much shorter in duration, at least to my ear. I think that will help as well. Great video!
Great vid, real informative. I wish i had you as a teacher in high school.
😅😊
Here is a tip to help check your bolts/screws. Go into your wife's finger nail polish and get her rd nail polish ( any color will do, other than, black, brown or any color that you have a hard time seeing ). After you tighten the screws up apply it and wait for it to dry ( check it regularly for cracks, if it is cracked the screws have come loose, ) so re-tighten them and repeat. ) Be careful not to get into the allen wrench or screw holes. I found that red works best.
Great tip, thank you
That's a hell of a difference.. I'm heading for an excalibur myself now. Great video thanks for your research mate
I just happen to stumble on your video and it was great. I just purchased my first crossbow and this will help, Thank you.
That's great to hear, thank you very much, and good luck with your crossbow!
Your video made me go dig out the my crossbow. Thanks
Before n After too me is like Day n Night! Sounded much better after wards!!
This guy is awesome
Well thank you for this!
This is the best video I've seen about quieting a crossbow. I just wish a compound crossbow was also used for comparative purposes.
Yes, I think you're right! I haven't been doing that since I put those on there but the pads are the big concern when it is unstrung
Some blue loctite will solve the issue of loose bolts and nuts. Great video! Thanks for the info!
I never end up using that but I definitely will at some point. Thanks and thanks for watching!
Fun stuff, thanks for watching!
Ha ha.
The Sniper is a great xbow. This is 3rd season with mine. Goodluck this season.
I have some of the dampers stuff on mine and it has helped. Not crazy tremendously but helped. It mainly helped the twang and vibration, which made the crossbow more comfortable to shoot.
Same here, well said
Another great job! I'm loving the PA crossbow videos
Does make it front heavy for sure!
very informative and well explained
Good vid Rich i also dont ever shoot over 30 yards ,every deer but one I've shot was 20 yards or under the one was 27 yards. I thought your bow sounded lots different i was shocked how different it sound. Thanx
Yeah me too lol, takes some getting used to
I have the same bow. Yes it is loud. Curiously the sound does not seem to both the Deer very much.
Yeah I'd say that's a big difference!
You are describing the correct way to install them, I have since figure that out
Great videos. I do disagree about using heavier bolts though. Keep up the good work
this is an old video, check out my two latest videos on heavy arrows
Great video- my tenpoint turbo gt has everything on it they sell... really works! Its by no means quiet, but its better than stock.
Thanks
I apologize if I missed it, but what is the little contraption mounted onto the top front area of your scope? Thanks. Hunt safely, my Friends!
Thats a gopro mount, I don't use that these days though
Love the brought to you by clover, lol
I live in MD and hunt with Excalibur xbow and Barnett. I've shot 2 does in one sitting from same blind roughly 45mins apart.
That's awesome good luck this season!
I get my 1st crossbow in 2 days and your videos are great to watch & fun. Keep'em coming #newsubscriber
awesome good luck!
great video sir.
+Death by Bunjie cool I'll be watching. our season opens hear in upstate SC in mid sept. got to get busy
Man is it that close? That's awesome! That video is coming, I promise. And I have made a final decision.
Right there with ya lol
Another awesome video deer season is right around the corner can I get a hell yeah
You sure can lol can't wait
huntwise JDR HELL YEA
I missed a nice buck due to a loose limb on my Excalibur 380. Tightened it up and killed a buck later that same morning. :). I also tape my sturup.
That's great 👍🏻
I have learned a lot with your vid. Thank you sir.
I’d love to see you do a comparison of Bunjie quieted and Bunjie III quieted. How much louder are the compound crossbows?
Bunjie III is way quieter than the Excals lol
@@Deathbybunjie Awesome! Thank you for replying. Your videos are a lot of help!
Excellent video, still pertinent 4 years later (more pertinent as we all drink the 400fps+ Koolaid?). Question, though - what is the piece of equipment mounted on the front/top of your scope (you lay your hand on it at 5:54). Is that a peep site?
That was a GoPro mount, no longer in service LOL
And like you say what the crossbows that I have I have put dampeners and things on them to quiet them down and I have been able to get two deer in the same day in about 20 minutes apart so my crossbows are shooting quiet enough with the stuff that I use on mine to where it doesn't I don't shoot it one shot and blow the whole entire day and you will find that out too and your test good luck this year
I'm glad to hear that, that's what I'm hoping to do too, thanks!
I put a set of limb-savers on my Barrnet unreal the difference it
I have a center point crossbow sniper 370 it come with string dampeners we're already on it but I did add limb dampeners on it made by bowjax
I think they look cool if nothing else!
Another awesomely informative video. Bravo.
Try thin shrink tube for the for the retention spring.
👍🏻
One thing you didn’t touch on was the change in the speed of Bungie that would be good to know. I really enjoy your videos looking forward to new ones on hunting soon.
The speed will be announced in the next video LOL
I have an excaliber Ibex which is similar to your axiom. Where did you get your string stops? model? Thanks and a very informative video sir
All that stuff came directly from Excalibur, should be able to find it on their website. Hope that helps!
As always, great job!! Just started getting into Crossbows. I live in western PA.
Hello to Western PA! I really hope that crossbows and this channel work out well for you. Let me know how you make out!
Im new to all this so, Dunno much but my question after wacthing your video is:
Is it right to compare your recurve crossbow with a Compound bow ?
Should you compare the sound to another normal Recurve Bow instead of Compound ?
I would like to see a video showing us the Sound difference from each Bow/Crossbow model
Normal Bow
Recurve Bow
Compound Bow
Crossbow Recurve
Crossbow Compound
Anyway great Video and your explanation are simple to follow and straight.
good question, i see your point BUT i think it's a fair comparison because I only care about them as hunting implements. in other words, how do they stack up in terms of volume afield. no doubt there are some important considerations between each model, but i already have my crossbow picked out lol.
I love your videos so much, greetings from Croatia!
thanks and greeting back to Croatia!
This video is 3 years old now, can you do an update on newer models and what manufacturers are doing to advance silent technology?
Great idea, will do one at some point this year!
....Thanks for this very helpful demo video!!!! [FYI: I really enjoyed hearing your Gray Catbird, ...calling in the background, ...at about 21 min]
Totally agree, cool to have birds in the video, thanks and thanks for watching
Right on rich great vid always wanted to no it all the extra stuff for excalibur was worth the monie i guess i should buy it thanks for the awesome vid god bless you big guy
Thanks Chuck for watching and good luck out there
Ignoring sound reduction, what would be the best way to reduce vibration without comprimising speed?
The stoppers are crossbow specific but some of the other add ons are universal. Does Barnett website list any string stoppers for your model?
Will try Easton xx75, 20” bolts with 300 gr broadheads soon.
Am looking to moose hunt next year.
What do you think about Easton full Metal Jacket Bolts?
i didnt know vince vaughn was into crossbows
it's the slightly overweight twin
I was thinking he looks like James Spader. Kinda sounds like him too.
Probably upgrading to a Ten Point Turbo S1 and I doubt it will be any quieter than this ancient Horton is
The Scorpyd is really quiet compared to others I've shot though
Great video . Thank you. Going to look for another one of yours.
I think there are 320 more LOL, thanks for watching!
Saw a bow that had a piece of shrink wrap on the tip of the spring steel that supports the bolt on the riser. I wonder if my Tactacam is also a "tuning fork" similar to the stirrup?
Interesting, the tactacam is coated in rubber so I think that helps and I haven't noticed a difference, personally, but that is still a good thought
@@Deathbybunjie good call!
Thank you so much for the common sense approach to reaction to sound (the shorter shot) Now can you get it through some of these folks that time of flight be it arrow or bullet gives time for a misplaced strike!
Dr. Grant Woods did a video on that recently and I think there's more to come on that subject, will keep an eye on it
I may conduct experiments within a ground blind using a decibel meter, I would assume the blind would absorb or at least reduce some of the noise at a distance.
