    I have an engineering degree, and hearing someone try to argue that a higher brace height would increase arrow velocity honestly just hurts my soul. Yes, a greater brace height puts more strain on the limbs, but you are not getting the benefit of that strain being released, which is what would power the arrow. The other benefit of a lower brace height that usually goes unmentioned is that it puts less continious strain on your limbs. If you have wooden limbs, definitely go with a lower brace height if you are leaving it strung for long periods...

    #DeathbyBunjie I loved that "Derek Davis's" response, it had me in stitches. More tension on the strings? He's the one who needs to do his homework or at least go back to school and re-learn the basics in physics! LOL

    Great vid Rich, but on a side note Excalibur used the same exact limbs on these older bows from the vixen 13.5 power stroke axiom, Phoenix 14.5, Exocet 15.5 & exomax 16.5 power stroke at 350 fps. So all u have to do for a faster bow is buy a longer Exocet or exomax barrel to achieve 330 or 350 fps. It might sound silly but they're that simple

      Yup, your spot on Locks. My Matrix 330 shares the limbs of the 350 and 400 as well and swapping to the longer rail will give me those speeds. Personally I wouldn't do that on Bungee since its a much older bow and I would be afraid of stressing those ole limbs so much. My Excalibur, being only a 330, I have the confidence that the limbs are not stressed since they can easily take up to 400 fps of power stroke inches.

      @@HomesteadOnThePreserve *With an older bow.... I agree. Except, I will add: NEW replacement limbs combined with S-5 / 1966 string vibration noise stops fitted with aftermarket 'DR. Stirrup bumpers' and heavier arrows for reduced noise "is the way to go". >>And With New limbs and a new slightly longer same series rail... there is some extra energy and extra speed benefit....for the 40+ yards shots that Rich claims to never take

  • @HomesteadOnThePreserve

    Another awesome video Rich! When I was researching brace height, it kept coming up (main researching was on the Excalibur Matrix Forums) as 1" being the best. Second most popular was 3/4". I did a LOT of testing at 25 yards with a brace height from 3/4 to 1 1/4" in 1/8' increments and 1" was definitely the most accurate / consistent. As a bonus, the bow would slightly quieter when higher then 3/4 due to the slap of string on the back of the limbs. At 25 yards my Matrix will consistently place the same arrow into the exact same hole, it's really an amazing bow! (different arrows will shoot within 1/4" to 1/2" of that hole)
    Side notes: Personally, I enjoyed the lack of music as it's easier to concentrate on your words. Hey, we have the same chain saws, love that Stihl! Cant wait for your "decibel testing" video! I have been tinkering around myself and I am anxious to see what you have in store for us!
    Take care my friend.

    • @Deathbybunjie
      @Deathbybunjie  6 лет назад +1

      With the string stops in place I am forced to go with a greater brace height like that, so that makes sense. I'm glad to hear yours is shooting so well! The decibel meter didn't show much difference but I will post that this week hopefully. Thanks!

    We keep the servings on our excaliburs that have the mark on rail just on inside edge of mark which is about 3/16 from bumpers.
    This does not tear up rubber as much !
    We sand the mark so it does not wear serving as much!
    Also BOO over on excal forum has info on how to sand and smooth the trigger claws so your servings will last a lot longer..
    Micro excal eat string servings unless you smooth claws.
    Put nothing on servings,no wax etc as this softens it .no rail lube on rail as this will get on servings.
    I use silicone spray on rail and wipe it dry !!

    Sir what a great video !!! In layman's even !!!! I am researching as much as I can to be knowledgeable as possible when I buy my first crossbow !!! ie: Excalibur or tenpoint which in my eyes Excalibur is going to get my nod. One of the Reasons being the point you made about adjusting your brace on the crossbow the Excalibur can be done by yourself as the tenpoint you would have to bring it to a shop to do !!! If you always have to bring your crossbow in for tuning all the time could get costly !!! Thanks for putting this out there !!!

    the left limb on my micro supressor 355 broke... the arrows that come with it are TOO LIGHT everybody learn and take heed you need at least 100 grain inserts in your arrows. Micro suppressor has 16' bolts. so I bought 18 inch excalibur diablo (easton carbon) arrows cut them down and glued in 100 grain brass inserts. the end result is a 16' bolt same as stock but heavier.

    Great information, I finally got my new ex-caliber. It is a matrix 355/360. I do think the brace height needs to be adjusted on it. The string is actually touching the rubber dampeners. So I will have to buy one of those strings that I can cock the bow back with to take the actual tension off of the main string so i can twist it a few times to adjust the brace height. Thank you again for all of your helpful information.

    Great video, Rich. I definitely learned something from you on this one.
    On a different note, I'm curious what you think about Velvet antler hunting. In Tennessee, they are opening one weekend to hunt during Velvet antler period about a month before deer season begins.
    It's archery only, private land, buck only and is to provide hunters the opportunity to harvest a Velvet-antlered buck.
    I'm going to hunt it only for the early opportunity to hunt (August 25 weekend). I don't really care either way about a Velvet rack personally.

    Hey finally recieved my crossbow after shooting it was pleased but very concerned as mentioned in earlier coment on another of your videos i have mostly hu ted with verticle bows and recurves at that my question is have you found a sweet spot on brace height to reduce noise.... from a traditional archers stand point we start silencing process by adjusting brace height to within reason of course. As a trad archer of 30 plus years my first shot with the matrix 355 sounded like a couple 2x4 being slaped together in a public library lol aftet reading the owners manual i discovered the brace height was indeed below recomended manufacturer measure once corrected i noticed some noise reduction not alot but was considering playing with it before adding air brakes string silencers ect

    • @Deathbybunjie

    So how far does the string move back with one full twist of the string?

    • @Deathbybunjie
      @Deathbybunjie  25 дней назад +1

      It's going to vary by string, one Twist on a 36-in wide limb is not the same as a Twist on a 25 in wide micro series Excalibur or a Twist on one of my compound crossbows that are smaller yet, I'm betting

    Great video as usual!! I have a question though... I have an Excalibur 380 bulldog crossbow and I realized that the string is closer to the riser on the left side than it is on the right side. In other words, the string seems to be on an angle if you look where the riser mets the rail. Why is this happening and what can be done to fix it?

    • @Deathbybunjie
      @Deathbybunjie  5 лет назад +2

      Check and make sure your limbs aren't failing, that one of them doesn't have a crack or something? And make sure everything is bolted down tight. I suppose if something was loose it could be cockeyed. I really don't know what would cause something like that. I doubt it is the string. Perhaps have a shop look at it? Please let me know what you find out, it would be good information to have and share.

      @@Deathbybunjie Cool!! Thanks for the reply and when I get it sorted I will certainly let you know the reasoning why. Keep up the vids as you are a very educational man for people who are learning about crossbows and all of the ins and outs... Greatly appreciated all the way from Montreal!!

    Question? I have the Matrix Mega 405 with the REDS system.......should my string be touching my REDS shock suppression system while at rest?

    • @Deathbybunjie
      @Deathbybunjie  Год назад

      Probably no, Google "excalibur string and brace height guide" and it will tell you the proper measurement, it's a PDF so I can't post it here. But you want 1/4" or so off the bumpers (assuming still within the recommended brace height). We talk about a bit more in this video here around 16:00, I hope that helps! ruclips.net/video/gqHmRVQwr-8/видео.html

    Are you still satisfied with your crossbow? Would you consider a crossbow with cams? Do you have deer jump the string? I like the idea of recurve crossbow but sound of a recurve is loud and I'm concerned about still jumping.

      Watch my quieting video that helped a lot IMO. I love this xbow and no reason to upgrade. Never lost a deer due to string jumping, although they can drop a bit. 10th season with this xbow coming up. Will do a "birthday video" about it this year but I kinda just previewed it lol.

    Hey Rich, I just put a new string on my Excalibur Vortex and cant get it to go even near the required Brace height, recommend is 1/2" to an 1" brace height from the riser, mine must be between 2 to 3" Its well past the last notch in the riser. I tried twisting and untwisting string but neither worked! Any advice would help Thanks

    i have a Matrix 405. after installing new string , my brace height is approx 1 3/8 inches. the chart calls for the brace height to be between 5/8 and 1 inch. There are no twist in in the string. will the string stretch and will this have an effect on accuracy. new to crossbow hunting and really like your videos.

    • @Deathbybunjie

      Yes stretch and brace height can affect accuracy, keep measuring and testing and shooting and you'll be fine i bet

    Got a question rich I was trying to get my string to be in the lines by twisting it is in setting about an half an inch pass the last line towards my scope I twist it and it gets closer to the scope am I doing something wrong I shot it at 10 and 20 yards seems good should I leave it and not worry about it

    • @Deathbybunjie
      @Deathbybunjie  4 года назад +1

      if accurate you're probably okay. TIGHTENING the string should bring it TOWARD the scope (INCREASING brace height), check with manufacturer or owner's manual for proper brace height, i hope that helps

      Doing a video on Scopes soon. I will mention this. I'm kind of in the same boat you are. Faster bows these days and Scopes these days tend to have more reticles. Unfortunately, no suggestions as of yet.

    Great tips Rich .
    I have a question .
    Have you ever done any work on the trigger to smooth it out.
    I have the same bow, and the trigger is not smooth at all.
    I think that the shots would be much more accurate if the sqeeze was smoother.

    • @Deathbybunjie
      @Deathbybunjie  6 лет назад

      Triggers are difficult on crossbows because they are holding back so much force. I like my trigger but keep in mind I'm transitioning from a model 94 Winchester 30-30 haha. I will address triggers down the road but that's a topic that I will need a shop for. I have not done anything to my trigger.

    I just bought a Excalibur-Axiom-SMF-Crossbow-w-scope on Ebay for $225. and I have your great videos to blame! I can't wait till it gets here! My first crossbow. Any Ideas for a name? Thank You Very Much!

      I only know one name and it's taken LOL. Seriously though if you're going to name it, think hard and pick a good one. Something personal. For what it's worth I still love my Axiom. Been saying that for years. There are so many different nice models out there. You almost can't go wrong. Good luck and keep me posted on how you make out! And on the name!

      Yes, I wanted the Matrix 380 or so I thought until cocking a Axiom. All review videos of the 380 were very quiet! I would have had to get the cocking device so your speed video really helped me decide. Here in central Florida there aren't many long shots with the WMA's being so dense anyway. I was thinking the Matrix 380 could make a 10 or so yard longer shot. But, you also have a great video on long shots! Thanks for the great videos! Ever think of starting some kind of nation wide crossbow club? Thanks again and we all Hail Bunjie!

    • @Deathbybunjie
      @Deathbybunjie  4 года назад

      Consult your manual, manufacturer, etc., but that one line might indicate that's where it's supposed to be. Stay close to that? Good luck out there!

      It turns out that the scribed line is "minimal" brace height. You always want to stay behind it. 1/2" or so...
