    For building up a bike yourself, the „old“ top tier 11-speed drive trains from Shimano and SRAM are great value✌️

    Hi Phill, great video as always!
    I've used the Advent 9 speed for over a year. It's an excellent drivetrain that would be more then enough for 90% of riders. I do highly recommend getting the 11-46t cassette.

      Thanks Daniel! Stoked to hear you have been loving it. The 11-46t is a must for me! Couldn't imagine going back to something like a 11-42

    A great step up over Tourney with a triple front chainring.
    Also drop bar brifters are available to suit the groupset.

    I freaking love my Advent x drivetrain. Would be killer if they release a 11-51 cassette (which apparently works out of the box with the current derailleur) and a drop bar brifter with integrated cable routing 😁.

    Totally agree. Was looking at bikes, which were way more expensive with more well known branded drivetrains, but ended up with the Marin Nicasio + which has the Advent 9. Really can't fault anything about this bike.
    Where were those trails you were riding?

    • @bikesonline
      @bikesonline  2 года назад

      100%! The Nicasio + is such a great option and as you said no real reason to spend more. It's probably the most comfortable gravel bike around. The trails were Daisy Hill and some random track near Camp Hill in SE QLD

    How is yours shifting now? I had a cannondale trail 5 that was stolen from my garden a couple of weeks ago, I absolutely loved it and cycled it a lot from 2020 until it was nicked. I noticed a couple of the harder to pedal gears (the ones used most by me when cycling on road) were skipping slightly and felt like they were wearing down more than the rest, anyone else with the same experience compared to shimano? My last bike before the cannondale was a 2005 specialized hardrock sport with shimano acera, the cassette/chain seemed to do a lot more miles before skipping than the advent x, do shimano use better steel?

      Hard to say, but there's no doubt Shimano makes a reliable product! Advent-X is also a very reliable drivetrain, though.

    I'm thinking of turning my old Fuji fitness bike into something a bit more gravel friendly. It currently has an old 2X Shimano Sora drivetrain. I want to go with Advent 9. But what of the crankset? The Fuji currently has the stock Shimano Sora, 50/34T. Any recommendations on what to switch to that will work nicely with the Advent 9 cassette? Thanks!

    • @bikesonline
      @bikesonline  8 месяцев назад +1

      Perhaps a 1x GRX Crankset? Should be able to reuse your bottom bracket that way since it's all Shimano! Just an idea.

      Hi there, according to microshift ADVENT X has a different cable pull than Shimano 10 speed products. ADVENT X shifters and derailleurs works best with ADVENT X.

    Where does the Microshift XLE fit in compared to the Advent? Their website is hard to tell how the product stack compares

    • @bikesonline
      @bikesonline  10 месяцев назад

      Seems as though the XLE is designed for gravel applications. The levers under that name are for drop bars, and it seems the derailleurs are optimized for the throws of those levers as well.

    How about comparing it to 11 speed Deore instead of SLX? It would have been a blowout for Shimano

    • @bikesonline
      @bikesonline  2 года назад +1

      There's a bit of a comparison towards the end of the video :) Very similar price but you get more range with the shimano but the advent X is a fair bit lighter

    • @bonzychinn
      @bonzychinn 2 года назад +1

      @@bikesonline Deore m5100 11 speed with some wider gear range & another $20 to spare definitely a wise & best value 1X drivetrain rather than the advent x. IMO, 211 grams heavier wouldn't be an issue unless "U" are a pro rider🤭

      I hate simamo deore. I tried a new SLX didn't like that either. I looove SRAM but seen a bike with this Advent 9 and I have no idea what's it's like. If you like deore then SRAM will impress you and change your mind. Deore sucks it constantly need's tuning where SRAM is solid. The springs are way more stiff so flops around less and stays in tune better

    If money ain’t a concern, would you still go with MicroShift?

    • @bikesonline
      @bikesonline  2 года назад +1

      If money wasn't a concern I'd ride Eagle AXS hahaha. But honestly if I was building up a frame personally I would go the Advent X 100%. The 11-48 range is enough for me and it's really light.

    • @GokkunGuru
      @GokkunGuru 2 года назад

      @@bikesonline Word up. Eagle AXS shifts really smooth and silent even under load. Sometimes you don’t even know it even shifted because the shifts are too smooth.
      I guess for budget builds, MicroShift is the way to go, assuming it is better than SX and NX. But if SLX is better, that’s an alternative to consider.

  • @Asijantuntia

    No, this is not how you compare things. "They are cheaper and lighter so they win against this other thing that has way more gears and is therefore obviously heavier and more pricier." DUH! You should have told us about your long time experiences with both, not just spill out the obvious. ChatGPT could generate a comparison like this.
