i will try this, look-wise it is just how it should be (german here). though it is easy to do a buttercream, which is the more authentic (and personally tastier)

Like everybody else, I too have been looking for this recipe to be done in English. Great instructions and well presented. However, I have one question. If this is authentic then why are you using packet vanilla pudding.? Wouldn't it have originally been made with a thick creme patisserie?

I notice this is a heavier gooey version of the cake part of the Bienenstich. Is that a choice and preference, or just impatience with the raising process and not kneading? With yeast and wheat together, you can get a lot more loft in the dough and the finished product which I prefer. You could food process the sticky dough because sticky dough tends to stick to the hands too much, and then let it raise properly twice. I guess the almonds and cream hold it down a little, but with wheat you would still get good loft with a little more raising time. I made a gluten free yeast cake the other day that had more loft than your wheat cake. I could make a gluten-free Bienenstich!! That might be an ambition.
Well, I made it today and something definitely went wrong. Not good. The cake baked fine but smelled and tasted too yeasty, not a problem in my cinnamon rolls or breads, but in the cake it was overpowering, like it was raw but the cake was done. My almond topping was very runny, it never thickened up at all, I couldn't keep it on the cake. I did use honey instead of sugar though, I don't know if that had anything to do with it. The custard turned out great, I used Bird's Custard Powder though I did add a tsp of vanilla to it to perk up the flavor a bit. The link to the written recipe doesn't work for me so I kept starting and stopping the video to write it down and make the cake, what a pain. My cake is now down the garbage disposal and as I write this I'm enjoying a bowl of the custard. I've been baking for 40 years and have never experienced such complete and utter failure. I think next time I'll just make an almond cake and fill it with the custard and some strawberries with some almonds scattered on top of the frosting. My German grandmothers are probably shaking their heads at me right now.
make with homemade custard, not a pudding mix. It's easy enough to make and far superior, since you're going through the trouble of making the cake and topping from scratch.

I made this in Spring of 2013 from the King Arthur Flour Baking Sheet! I like it with HOMEMADE Pastry Cream, not pudding mix!
I used to eat this in Germany and it is very good.
Both hubby and i have german ancestry we absolutely love bienenstich (bee sting)

Good video but you missed out the most important ingredient which is honey in the almond mix. Hence the name Bienenstich. But overall good video.
