Even though I can't weld worth a damn, I love watching fabrication videos of all types. Thanks Billy, keep up the good work!
Definitely watching the best of the best😊
Never a doubt that you could do the work...🤨 Thank you for all the very useful tips and information.
I appreciate you going over the settings on the welder.
I tried a lot of different settings, you gotta keep current low to get the small heat zone & color. Then you set pulse to work with your chosen current.
This was like getting a lesson in exhaust 101 with professor pipe. If Jessie is the popeofwelding then this would make billy the masterofarc
Billy you always have a video for people who want to learn.. and those who want to learn more!
It's always a pleasure to see what's happening in the shop!
That pipe makes a wicked sound for the old flatty 45! Want something similar on my ironhead pretty soon..
Ironhead exhaust speed is so much higher, it would sound insane. At high rpm, this pipe makes a growl you can’t believe a 45 can produce
@@BillyLaneChoppers yes! I bet that deep growl changes when you get on the top end!
Tons of fun to watch. I just started doing small welds to save a buck here and there, but this is a level of skill I'll never get to!
Thx Billy, Very informative. I learned a lot🤘
Nobody does it like you Billy !!!
You are a professor !!!
Thank you 🙏🏻
Thank you sir
Good morning boys & girls! Man you have alot of patience. 👍 A master artist!
Billy, you're a true craftsman. Great job welding stainless exhaust. Keep the rubber side down!
From a fellow fabricator , that is a job well done 👏 ✔️ 👍
Thank you
Man that's a magnificent work-around interference. Interference has plagued me most of my occupational and diy projects.

Was just watching the video what I call the purple heart 💜 tour, always brings a smile to my face when you give that young hero his first bike that was an amazing moment you rock brother. L&R
It was the right thing to do. Thank you for recognizing
That was amazing to what and your teaching and explanation of how and why you do what you do. Excellent 👏👏👏👊👍✌️🙃🇨🇦
I can't wait to see you in Tennessee.!
That bike is incredible, less is so much more. Billy is the Guvnor😊
Cool lesson😇
You gotta really love what you do to be able to explain things in such amazing detail.
THANKS!
I REALLY love what I do
just like the art at the museum ...😊
Informative video, thanks for sharing a lost art.
Thank you Mr. Lane!
Loud pipes save lives
I really enjoy your videos Billy, thank you man
Always thank you for your videos and awesome job on the exhaust...
Truly a work of art ⚡🤘🏻⚡
Easier said then done that's forsher those pipes look sick .
Have you always had a love for vintage racing? Or something that you grew into? This is a long way from 90s chopper building. Clearly you still have a love for the choppers as seen in other videos 👍
I plan on getting into some Harley only work maybe just basic motor work under the table for now, kinda just coming from the ground up trying to figure out the most lucrative places to market myself in… I’m too addicted at this point I love it, awesome videos you are making. Always something to learn
Billy you answered a question I had without me having to ask. I want to build a 2 into 1 exhaust for my shovel. When I was racing cars I was always told header tubes had to be the same length to the collectors. Now I know different it’s going to make this exhaust a lot easier. I think I guess I’ll see. Thanks for all the great advice in your videos. You take care and stay safe.
As usual, Bill, nice tutorial on the exhaust. love it when you walk us thru all this shit. Thank You!!
nice work!
Very cool. Love it
Love your videos bro.cool bike to.
Great job brother
Solid!
That’s some really nice work
I also don't use any guard on the small angle grinder. I like to see where i am cutting. For that matter i also don't use any chuck guard on the lathe...
Good stuff bro
This is very cool
use blue masking tape so you don’t have to hold the template . Just peel and reuse.
The adhesive cooks onto the pipe
Nice job👍
I feel that i owe you tuition money, Mr. Lane
Your complimentary words are all the compensation I need. Thank you.
Hey mr lane, did you have this knowledge back in your tv days or did time teach you. Nice deep tone at the end of the video.
brilliant
where did you get your very informative training Billy, awesome, juhaptergee
If your work doesn’t line up just right you could apply heat and tweak some things I suppose? Considering it’s stainless…
DAAAM!
Are you testing on a dyno with different size/diameter/length pipes and exhaust for +/- in horsepower? On our vintage race bikes we've found it can make up to a 5hp gain or loss.
No. I originally made the one on my 1946 WR because I knew I needed exhaust scavenging to work with the long duration camshafts. The bike is so responsive, fast, & turns very high rpm. So I know that the pipe is working. A dyno would definitely be of help.
Billy this is badass, does the length of the exhaust make a difference? Short vs long?
Ideally you want equal length pipes for each cylinder, it’s not easy to do that with a V-twin. Joining both pipes at the collector helps with this problem.
Badass,
Hi Billy, I have seen this bike is a couple other posts you have made. I am working on a 1979 super glide converting it into a bobber. I have a good friend that started the conversion with a good friend of his years ago. his friend died in a motorcycle accident, and my friend never touched the bike again. So I bought it from him, and I am finishing it on the condition when it id done he will take it for a ride. I love that olive color, and would love to paint the bike that color. it is so old school! would you be willing to share the color code so I can duplicate the color for my bike? I would really appreciate it. If not I understand.

So allowing all the trash from the inside of the cut to suck back into the weld doesn’t cause porosity??
No it does not. Porosity is caused by the presence gases near the weld as it cools. A weld is simply a casting without a mold. We use inert gas to shield the weld from the surrounding air, but the shielding is not complete or absolute. There is always going to be porosity in a weld, we merely try to minimize porosity in an effort to create the strongest bond possible.
The people complaining about the guard should probably stop watching for their own safety.
I know it's only a 45 but don't you want the pipes to be closer to equal length?
It’s preferable. But what’s more important is scavenging intake on one cylinder with exhaust from the other, by sending both pipes to a collector. Ideally, you want equal length pipes. But constant negative pressure at the exhaust valves, because of the collector, is the key to horsepower. This 45, by the way, will smoke a 74” flathead, knucklehead, Panhead, or shovelhead.
Hopefully this isnt a silly question. Could a fella use a chopsaw to make those pie cuts?
Yes, of course. Might be easier. I don’t have one. I have a cold saw, but it uses cutting fluid, which I then have to remove before I can weld
@@BillyLaneChoppers thankyou very much for the quick response and sharing your knowledge with all of us
Hoping you see this.... i'd like to mail you something to sign for my son... he is graduating from high school this month and he loves all the bikes you have built. Is there a good address i can mail a shirt to? I will pay for postage to return it to me. The shirt i have was signed bybyou yrs ago. I gave it to my son and he'd like to get it signed again.
