Happy Mother’s Day!!! Just a suggestion, instead of loading the trays in your kitchen and risk dropping one or more while walking down to your freezer, take the container of food downstairs in a bowl or pot downstairs and load the trays near your freezer.
I wonder if the freeze dryer can be stored in the pantry or garage.

To work out the portion sizes of the freeze dried food, start out by weighing a one person portion before drying. Then get the full weight of the food and divide that by the single portion weight. Now you know how many portions you started with. Once the food is freeze dried, weigh it again and divide that by the number of portions you calculated, and then you’ll have the dry weight of a single portion. That will help figure out how much to bag.
You’d never guess that I work in finance, and yes, I often weigh out food to check that I’m splitting it evenly or am cooking the right portion size🤔

I’ve been wanting a freeze dryer for awhile but I can’t find one that’s affordable for just one person. With my physical disability and living in a small apartment, I’m unable to have access to a garden. Freeze dried foods take up much less space for long term storage. Hopefully I’ll find someone who has one willing to put some of my food in!! Enjoy your machine and I’m positive it’ll be worth every penny!!

I agree 100% on those mountain house meals. They are expensive and kinda bland. I feel like making a meal and freeze drying it will be much more tasty. I really want to invest in a freeze dryer and am very excited to see you use yours.
My dog, Kau'i, has allergies so she is given freeze dried beef or chicken liver treats. I bet your cat would enjoy freez

Thanks for taking the time of making and sharing this video. Most Floridians don’t freeze dry but some do alligator meat.
I love my freeze dryer had it for years and have never had any issue.
I personally only put in frozen foods because I believe it’s less work on the motor as well as letting my FD defrost completely on its own plus, I never do one batch after another.
I wait for FD to completely defrost and I do wipe everything down both inside and out before the next use.
I also leave the door open for a few hours to make sure smells do not get trapped inside…

They are perfect for going to the cabin, and going ice fishing, so true you know what is in your meals, I have seen so much freeze dried candy lately especially skittles
On your freeze dryer you should wear glove. The cold trays are ruff on your skin. Strawberries are great in freeze dryer. They good put in go bags and lightweight. I would love to get one. I think it's so cool. Great video.

Lauren, I found you a few months ago and after watching many of your videos decided to tell my mom about your You Tube Channel. Funny thing, as soon as I logged into her You Tube on her computer there was your face and Everett!! She has been watching you longer than me!! Her first words, "Oh, that's Lauren!" I had to laugh! My mom is 85 and only follows a few people and you are one of them! I'm curious about the paint in your new studio room. What is the color on your walls? It seems like such a nice gray. I made some mylar meals with my freeze dried foods, and then forgot to label them, so our Christmas trip to an airbnb was a mystery meal each night! LOL. "Aunt Mae" here

It's a warm, rainy day here in Virginia... it's going to get into the 80s today. Ugh 🥵
I've been looking forward to this video. Thank you for stating the importance of being prepared... without fear. "Prepare for the worst, pray for the best." So many don't consider it's importance until it's too late. We've been through many issues where being prepared was a blessing, not only to us but to family, friends and neighbors... even some strangers: floods, blizzards, ice storms, hurricanes, tornadoes, etc. When people ask why be prepared I respond, "7 days, 9 hours and 43 minutes." That was how long the power was out after a horrible ice storm in the dead of winter. Not to mention the roads, stores, gas stations, etc., that were hit hard and not accessible for a period of time thereafter 😕
Mark and I have been interested in different means for food storage. We've bought bulk dehydrated and freeze-dried foods, but it can be very pricey... i.e.: local and group bulk co-op, Thrive, etc. I've heard a freeze-dryer pays for itself in the long run. One of Mark's brothers has a freeze-dryer and likes it. I sent Mark this link, so he can hear your thoughts 🤔

Food allergies are no fun. Mark can attest to that. I pray freeze-drying allows more options for your sister to be able to get back to doing things she loves and enjoys 🏞️
I think all your ideas about recipes, testing, etc. are great. I can't wait to see and hear your experiences using the freeze-dryer. I enjoyed the science lesson on how freeze-drying works... so interesting 👩🏼🔬

Acre homestead did a whole gummy candy episode.. they all looked so good.
I have a small fan that blows on the pump and a stand fan that blows on the side of the freeze dryer itself. We also have a Blink camera that is pointed to the screen of the FD. I can check the times from my phone from wherever I am.
Just a recommendation: do not assume that food is dried based on the machine. The most accurate assessment is weighing food pre FD. When the machine says done, then weigh trays again. Dry for 2 more hours and weigh again. If

Before filling all the trays ; measure out the size portion you want and dry it on a tray by itself. Once they are all dry you can weigh or measure and Then you can measure out the portions on the rest of your trays.
I really want to hear all about the freeze drying process as you go along. It sounds like something I might be interested in. Also want to hear about the various recipes you try out. The website also has lids for the trays.

When you seal your mylar bags you may want to do two seals, as in one under the first one you do in case one of them does not seal properly
everyone I know has the pump on the shelf under the freeze dryer. you'll have more counter space which you'll see u need
