      Is it possible to change the speed of the color transitions?? I would like to do a slow fade with the 'gorgeous scene' with the Smart Life bulb... It changes colors too fast in my opinion😒

    $17.99 bulb is $41.84 + $7.53 on the Canadian amazon ca site. Phillips Hue is $59.99 Canadian + Prim free shipping. Thanks for the video but being Canadian falls short again when it comes to cheap options.

      That sucks I just got 2 bulbs from Amazon for 28 bucks plus free one day shipping. I think we Americans get stuff cheaper because we consume way more thus still giving Amazon profits

      Gregory Ruiz we consume alot here as well, our government has no backbone when it comes to Major Corporations, it's the corporations that dictate what services we Canadians receive...ie. in telecommunications, we have the highest phone and cable plans in the world and anytime a non-Canadian company attempts to setup shop Bell, Rogers and Telus start waiving the Canadian flag and strong-arm the government to keep the company's out so they can continue to monopolies that market.

    Good review, you have me thinking about smart bulbs now. So far I have smart plugs and smart switches. Your reviews and user guides have been a wonderful help to me.
    I also appreciate the care you take in blanking out the "Alexa" and "Hey/Okay Google" wake words. I have a combination of 12 Echo and Google Home devices going and sometimes from several rooms away I'll catch one of them doing something based upon a reviewers inconsideration for the viewers by using the wake words audibly. I can't always mute the reviewers in time.
    Again, thank you for that consideration.

    It's interesting how quickly the market is dropping for these types of bulbs with this functionality. This bulb specifically looks great, but you do have to watch a bit because some of the integrations with Google Home or Alexa/Echo can be difficult. Like you said, Brett, the lack of capability for Z-Wave or Zigbee is a bit of an issue for those using a Samsung SmartThings Hub. All in all, great video and I think I'll be buying a few of these to add to my home.

    i love my Zombber colored smart bulbs i got 2 for 25$ and they work amazing i love the music sync feature best and i like the wake up alarm feature alot when i compared them to my philips hue colored bulb which is 50$ for just 1 bulb i think the Zombber bulbs are almost as good they get just as bright but not as dim but my favorite feature is the music sync for sure its a hard feature to find with cheap colored smart bulbs but it works very well with the Zombber bulbs i love them.

    BTW someone you can add to your home automation series is sonoff switches. Really easy to make them into smart extension cords. Letting you turn off conventional lamps with conventional bulbs. Or anything you plug into a socket. Only costs about $5 bucks. I have 4 of them in my home and work really well with Google Home. Bit of a pain to setup but once you know how its easy. Let me know if you need help with this.

    • @TechWithBrett

      It has been on my to do list to do... What app does it connect to on the Google Home?

    • @nanfoodles
      @nanfoodles 6 лет назад

      eWeLink, the big issue is setting up the wifi info. Little trick to get it to work I found is, 1 turn off your wifi, 2 Put your device on Airplane mode. 3. Long press (10 seconds) on the sonoff switch. Then it goes into discover mode. Press the setup switch again for 10 seconds and the sonoff switch turns into a router mode. leave your device on airplane mode but turn on your Wifi. In your SSID list will be one called ITEAD**********. click it and the password is "12345678". Finish the setup in the eWeLink app and your golden. In the app enter your SSID and password on 2.4 connection.

    • @nanfoodles
      @nanfoodles 6 лет назад

      For multi users on a google home this product is a pain. You cant log into the same account across more then one device. Each device needs a unique username and password. On the main device you set up your Sonoff switch on, in the app if you open the device you will see a share icon. Click share and enter the email address of the other account you want to share the switch with. A message will pop up on the other device if you have the eWeLink app open. Accept the share and now you can control the switch on another device.
      So in short if you have 10 devices with 5 users (tablets and phones) you will need 10 accounts with unique email addies.

    Thanks Gregeth of the Smartlands (I must stop watching TV.lol). Great video as usual. Bearing in mind our cultural differences between England and your land, we don't have plug sockets or anything electrical apart from lighting in our bathrooms. Are there any smart bulbs that actually state they are moisture tight? Shower steam, crazy splashes etc, etc that can be safely used in a bathroom light ceiling fitting? Thank you Sir Gregeth.

    Hi Bret, How's it going going? Great video. Coincidentally I bought a couple of these lights yesterday and am playing with then all the time! Couple of thoughts though.
    First is that you didn't mention the installation of the Smart Life app and creating account. (apologies if you covered this in a previous vid).
    Second, is the fact that all of these internet connected products using the Smart Life app - What if the company becomes bankrupt or something and so turns off the app servers. Your smart bulbs then do not work! Hopefully this does not happen - plus they are at least half the price of say, the Philips Hue bulbs.

    • @TechWithBrett
      @TechWithBrett  6 лет назад

      Yeah that would be a bummer but so far it seems like these IOT companies should be around for a bit.
      I honestly forgot to add creating an account with Smart Life in any of my videos. I was testing it out and just forgot to show that in a video but it is pretty simple. Just remember if you used your phone number or email to create the account.

    I have the lohas LEDs in my studio and I have found the white colours are just not as nice as the Lifx or Hue. The warm white is especially bad, not very warm at all. Lifx have the best colours including the whites.

      for sure, I think these are perfect for lights that are always going to be coloured and not white. I think it might have something to do with them only being RGB. I have a feeling that the hue and lifx use a different set of leds inside the bulb specifically for whites. I could be wrong

I want a bulb that I can make turn red when I get an email, green when I get a text and blue when I get a Facebook alert using IFTTT. I'm also curious if it can control the varrience. I just want the bulb to glow at 10% for these alerts.

    Like the Alexa app are you able to get a visual representation of the colours available on the Google Home app? Equally, are you able to ask google to remember a colour and recall in the future (e.g. Tungsten, Magenta)

    • @TechWithBrett
      @TechWithBrett  5 лет назад

      Right now you cannot have the colors displayed in the Google Home app. There are a lot of colors by name but not sure how to have it remember customer colors. The best way would be to create a routine with a specific color name.

    • @JappyChappy

      @TechWithBrett  6 лет назад +3

      Only if your router is not capable of running a 2.4 and a 5 ghz frequency. If it is, once the bulb is on the network it is able to be controlled from your phone if it is connected to the internet or your Google Home even if the Home is on a 5 ghz network.

      Tech With Brett please explain further. I have a router with 2.4 and 5 GHz. How would I set this up??? How could Google home on 5 GHz talk to the bulb that is on 2.4???

    • @TechWithBrett
      @TechWithBrett  6 лет назад

      So once the light is connected to the 2.4 network it then can be completely controlled from through the internet. Once it is connected the bulb can be controlled from your phone away from home as long as you have internet. Once you give your Google Home access to Smart Life it then connects through the internet to control and adjust the bulb so it doesn't matter which network the Google Home is on as long as they both have access to the internet and are linked together. Does that help?

    Hey the Lifx bulb seemed to have a flicker to it several times through the video. Is this noticeable in real life? Also the cheaper bulb, does it feel cheap? (i.e. give out in 3 months) Also does the cheaper bulb hum at all?

    • @TechWithBrett
      @TechWithBrett  6 лет назад +1

      That most likely was due to the frame rate of the video. I have not actually seen it do anything like that. The build quality was actually better than I thought it would be. It is rated for 20,000 hours so that should last for quite awhile. I did not notice any hum as those sounds do bother me. I will double check.

    I have several smart switches that work with the Smart Life app. I'm looking to expand my system, but, I'm having trouble determining what products are compatible with the Smart Life app. When looking at new products, how do you determine they are comparable with Smart Life?

    • @TechWithBrett
      @TechWithBrett  6 лет назад

      For the most part of the product is listed as WiFi compatible,No Hub required and works with Google Home and Alexa it most likely is Smart Life compatible. I am working on a list of Compatible Products I have verified. Let me know if I need to add a specific type or product: kit.com/techwithbrett/smart-life-compatible-products

      As far as I have seen you are not able to with Smart Things.

    also dont bother with smart plugs, anything you could possibly want to plug into them - air conditioners, washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, tvs, computers, etc, either require a 15amp plug (all smart plugs are 10amps max) or require you to also press the power/start button on the machine itself, making a smart controller a useless additional pre-start routine.
    smart plugs are absolutely useless, unless yr just gonna plug a lamp into them, then why not just get a smart bulb (see above comments about using the switch).
    anyone pushing these useless "smart devices" are likely selling them on amazon and putting affiliate links in their video descriptions

    Great Brett! I love your videos! I'm surprised I don't see this on the IFTTT skills, but is it possible to make the light alternate between RED and BLUE or blink RED or blink BLUE. I'm surprised this combo isn't on the top of the list. I want to use my bulbs at the front and back door. if my camera picks up motion and I see there is a burglar, i'm setting up sirens to go off and for my lights to blink red and blue in alternating colors. Hopefully this will scare the fool out of the burglar and alert neighbors and police that something is wrong. :D I think this is so cool but i don't see anything on this. HIs first reaction is definitely going to be that the police are already there!!!! But once he figured out its my lights he will probably still leave because he will realize he needs to go and he has no way of knowing if the police are already there or not. lol :D

    First time I heard about these so called smartlights I was pretty skeptical to ve honest. A collegue of mine showed me how he was able to turn on and off any light in his home all the way from the office. He said he had gradually switched over all his bulbs to smartbulbs within a few weeks. I only got 1 to begin with but ordered another 5 the day after I got it. Especially since he showed me how to get 5 for free if I buy 5. If anyone is interested just drop a comment and I'll hook you up! I can't stop adding more of these around the house lol

    • @TechWithBrett
      @TechWithBrett  5 лет назад

      Those work but after adding 20 or so your WiFi gets overwhelmed. Using a hub removes the strain from the WiFi. They are both good it just depends on what your needs are.
