I've had my JD-Xi for over five years, and I've always loved how it sounds, I've never realized how powerful it is until I found this editor. This is a total game-changer!
It's a shift feature that place a rest on the higlighted step. Hold the shift key and prese the Step Rec to access the rest feature. Refer to page 12 of the manual for more info.
If you added the option where we could add in our own drum samples, and layer and edit them, or combine them with existing drum waves ... you could start charging for this. And when the word got out that the Roland JD-XI had one of the most flexible drum synths ... suddenly JD-XIs would get hot. That's my wish list. Thanks!
Ok, so this free sound editor has made me dive back into my JDXi. Coming from a software background, I was used to being able to tweak presets into what I want. I now have that with this program. I wasn’t interested in the Menu Diving that is needed without something like this. The JDXi can feel limiting but this eliminates that feeling. Tweaking the partials is a great way to make sounds your own.
Hi Daniel. That's awesome :) I'm always using this with my JD-XI also. I find it easier to craft my programs this way - then I save them onto the hardware - and life's a lot simpler ;)
Dude, Ranzee! Thanks for this, I just stumbled across it and I've been looking for an editor for my JD-Xi that is worthwhile and found nothing till this. Also checked out ur channel... cha-ching!... subbed!
I've been watching a lot of tutorials on this keyboard synthesizer on RUclips you can also stack the drum kits sounds on top of each other and you don't even have to have the computer software to do that, like you said you can do everything on the keyboard, the synthesizer is very deep before you go into making music take a few days to play around with it learn the ins-and-outs of it it can do so much
Maybe I'm too late to this video. Are the tone modifications saved automatically? How do you restore the default parameters of a tone? Thanks for the tips!
Th FXM thing, coms straight from the jv-1080, with 4 "colours" and 16 points "depth"...also the PKG filter, which i really like for drum sounds...this architecture went through the xp synths, the xv ones, to the mc-909, IDK about the fantoms... And as i see, it finds it's way to the jd-xi as well...
Hi Ranzee Nice tutorial, I've got the same JD-XI and with the editor it's a cool little big synth. I've subbed your channel and look forward to viewing more.... Cheers John from OZ JD-xi, Volca keys, SH01, microbrute, nord electro 3, vst +++
Yes you can, just switch the drumkit on each druksnare/kick/perc at the top, customizing it to your liking and then select file and save. It's that easy. I've done a drumkit inspired by Michael Jacksons 80's era
great work ranzee so i was going to buy the new cyclone tr84 thingy drum machine but now i,ll prob get another jdxi just use for drums /percussion with the editor ,my question is i,m not going to go to puter for drum editor i would like to just use a tablet which will solely be for jdxi but also i dont like apple gear so could you recommend a tablet that would do the editor job thanks
Hi Plucka :) Thanks for the comments. To answer your question, this editor runs on Windows or Linux - so as for a tablet - you could look at using a Microsoft Surface I guess. Otherwise, you'd have to look at other products. I have already suggested that the developer make an Android version. So only time will tell I guess :)
One question. After downloading the software editor and opening it,do I have to set in the synth's menu something, like for example to set it to be USB or vendor?Or just connect it trough the usb cable set it as an audio interface and the editor will recognize it.
Hi T.I.N Mateus, you need to connect it up via USB or MIDI (if you use USB, you will need to have the Roland JD-XI USB driver installed) - this video shows me connecting it to an MX-1 mixer MIDI: ruclips.net/video/nE8MPaLVV3c/видео.html
Hey fiddlestickz. This software is windows only. jdxi-manager.linuxtech.net/ There is another developer who made something similar - OKDev: www.okdev.org/ - and yes, you can save the drum kits. Enjoy! Cheers, Ranzee
Wow eveyone overlooks this info; how many kits? How many percussion sounds per kit? Which keys do the sounds map to? All of the keys? Can you change which keys the sounds map to? Can you edit the kits to make your own kits? If so, how many kits can be saved? What kinda of percussion sounds does it have? Toms? Bongos? Blocks? Bells? Snares? Cymbals? Tympanies? Why the crap cant anyone explain this? They go nuts explaining all the other stuff.
supercommando440 you can put as many sounds as there are keys on a keyboard, you can make your own kits, you cannot save them, there’s basically every kind of drum sound you could think of, and you could literally grab a digital download of the parameter guide he mentioned and it would explain all of it.

Yes, the synth its very deep!!
Very very thx for this amazing editor ! Very good job!
Hi J König thanks for the comments, I didn't make the editor, but I'll pass on your remarks to the developer :)
a really helpful video ranzee , the JD-XI is a great synth and it's even better when using the editor , you can get lost for hours
Hi John Goodlass :) Thanks for watching, and you are right - the software opens up the doors on this synth.
Hi! I have another question. In the pattern sequencer, below step rec, there is a rest option. Can you explain what this is to me?
It's a shift feature that place a rest on the higlighted step. Hold the shift key and prese the Step Rec to access the rest feature. Refer to page 12 of the manual for more info.
Thanks@@ranzee
@ranzee actually, i kept getting stuck. The answer is that when the jdxi is in step rec the erase button enters a rest. No shift.
If you added the option where we could add in our own drum samples, and layer and edit them, or combine them with existing drum waves ... you could start charging for this. And when the word got out that the Roland JD-XI had one of the most flexible drum synths ... suddenly JD-XIs would get hot. That's my wish list. Thanks!
That would be cool - and it's something I've requested - but no response.

Hi Vinker! Thanks mate - I can't take the credit for the editor, but appreciate the nice comments all the same :) Also, thanks for the sub!

Hi Dwayne, thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. All the best!
Maybe I'm too late to this video. Are the tone modifications saved automatically? How do you restore the default parameters of a tone? Thanks for the tips!
You can continue to edit - but if you change patches or turn off the JD-XI you will lose your settings. You can save them using the JD-XI Manager.

Hi John! Thanks mate - great to hear from you - have an awesome week!
Can you mix the drum sounds between different drum kits? To build a custom drumkit for example?
Hi isbjorn64 - you can mix partials - there's a fair bit of flexibility.
Yes you can, just switch the drumkit on each druksnare/kick/perc at the top, customizing it to your liking and then select file and save. It's that easy. I've done a drumkit inspired by Michael Jacksons 80's era
Please finish the jdxi editor!
What is the reason it stays in alpha fase !??
Hi - it wasn't me that made this - you may want to visit the website and send your questions directly to the developer!
@@ranzee Oh, i'm very sorry. I apologise. I'll ask the developer.

Does anybody help me? I can't save the .syx files in my computer. It appears "Error cannot save to file. Check filesystem permissions.".

@@ranzee Thank you!
Hey Ranzee that editor where is it available from, the mac version..? and you can edit each individual drum hit like that and save them off..?
Hey fiddlestickz. This software is windows only. jdxi-manager.linuxtech.net/ There is another developer who made something similar - OKDev: www.okdev.org/ - and yes, you can save the drum kits. Enjoy! Cheers, Ranzee
Those drums sound really good, sound like they have plenty of punch, do they sit in a mix easily?
Hi lardosian, I don't use the JD-XI drums much - but a lot of people do and say that they are great!
check here how they sound www.soundcloud.com/savanaviolenta/warcrimes and www.soundcloud.com/savanaviolenta/whitedreams
He predicted the future. All music now sounds the same because everyone keeps recycling the same drum sounds from FL studio. Lol
