if you hold shift down while selecting a drum sound during live performance the drum noise wont trigger so you can now add or remove individual parts or change velocity on the fly
Is it possible to adjust velocity per step, maybe a shortcut to add ghost notes or something? Other than using the keys to input velocity I mean. Thanks!
Improvised Altar during playing drum sequence when you held shift and select the drum key you can reduce velocity of the drum , I don’t know if you can adjust individual velocity for each step, I have not tried this and it’s 1.10am , If you can’t adjust velocity per step then we should ask for this feature
In the menu is where it's at. There are way more functions and ways to shape the drums and synths in the tone edit menu. You can make the drum sounds, sound way better then the original sound you here when you use it. The reason that this is called a hybrid synth is not because of the sounds necessarily, even though they are awesome if you work on them, but it is a hybrid synth because of all the functions and capabilities in the menu settings, especially on the program, tone and effects edit menus. I noticed not alot of JD-XI users are digging deep into the menu, and that's where you can make your sounds way better and have more control of the way they sound, but the tone edit is the one that I use the most. The program edit is like a little secret in and of itself too. Just using that can dramatically change the whole sound in a big way. Just wanted to let all the Roland JD-XI users know that, because I was wondering why they kept calling this thing a hybrid synth, that's why...SBN
I can't smash the LIKE button hard enough... Awesome video. (I just ordered my JD-Xi, it's in the mail somewhere, and your videos are teaching me so much already! 3 years later after you made them haha)
Can you create your own drum kit on it? Or say I find a drum kit I like but don’t like the snare and want to add a different one-is that a possibility?
hi . I don't know what I have done to my jd xi and at the digital synth 2 part , when digital synth 1 is on , digital synth 2 it changes alone filter lpf hpf bps pkg :S ... Does anybody knows how I can fix this ? thanks
Can you copy a sound from one program and paste it into another? For instance, copy Digital Synth 1 from F40 and paste it into F41 with the exact same tone settings?
I'm not sure about pasting it in that way. If I'm really fond of a sound/tone in F40 for example I will erase anything I've recorded and start from a clean slate. When it's time to save do not save the new idea on F40, just save it to F41.
@@ghoststalkermusic Damn, well thank you for the response man. I say this because I have this really nice 4/32 idea going on F40, and I want to be able to go back and forth between F40 and F41 with the same sounds that I was using with F40 (because I have them adjusted with custom analog tone settings).
@@applebottomjeans7571 ah, the struggle is real. I've only stuck to presets for similar reasons. I know you can mess with settings on the JD Xi menu, but there is also software for patches settings. So that might be a way to achieve what you are going for!
WOW. thanks man. Some kool trix in here. The main thing i like is the ghost notes and changing the feel of whats effectively a hard quantised pattern. Never thought to do the arp and hold notes 😮
Thanks for the video! Do you know if there’s a way to change an individual drum part/key to a different drum preset while staying in the same drum kit?
Joey, thanks for vid! I’m pretty sure I saw on RUclips someone put one FX2 on one drum part and another FX2 on another part of the same kit. When played, the FX2 effect lights were changing accordingly. I can’t figure out how to reproduce this on the JDXi, FX2 is only global for all instruments! Have an idea?
Sounds like you'll be having to do a deep dive into the menu. I haven't done what you are talking about myself, but my guess what is being described on page 9 of the JD-Xi manual 'Editing Program and Effects Settings' Link to pdf of the manual: bit.ly/2SqT9Cq hope this gets you in the right direction!
You are not able to export audio or midi from the JDXi. More information explained on this thread: forums.rolandclan.com/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=55510#p311578
Hey i need some help! For some reason my drums are muted on one of my saved banks. Weird i cant get it to play. It shows my pattern but it doesnt play regardless of erasing the entire pattern and changing the level.
It’s hard actually using my auto tune pro even it’s not really smooth in some aspects compared to the auto tune in the Roland it’s weird..... I feel like the Roland one gives me more confidence in some aspects...
Hello! Do you know if there is a way to take drums and sounds from different sound banks and put them into a user bank, basically to create a custom bank? I've tried to find the answer but I haven't yet. Is it only possible to make a song using sounds from one bank at a time? There has to be a way to do it his, I just haven't found it yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated. What I mean is, I want to use digital synth 1 sound from bank S, digital synth 2 sound from bank C, drums from bank T and analogue from bank B all at once on one song. I can't figure it out. Am I just being stupid?
Mort Chud you can copy a preset bank to a user bank for 'editing' to make your own. i think the whole things copied fx settings patterns and sound sets. so at least you will get one of your chosen sounds in there. for the others you'll need to inspect the drum kit number and synth number and locate them using the sounds knob and the cursor buttons while still in your copied editable user bank. dont forget to save it BEFORE changing anything or all your sounds etc will be lost back to the original copied preset!!! other than that have a good poke in the manuals, you may even be able to 'copy' individual sounds between user banks? bear in mind that certain settings like fx are global to that bank. hope that helps. jb x
@@ThaSupaHeroReD If you realtime-record while the pattern is playing, realtime recording is automatically defeated when you reach the end of the pattern (i.e., the moment that playback returns to the beginning of the pattern). Dam man, thanks alot. I have been playing and recording my own velocities by hand, and I'll tell you, it has made me better, but it can take a long time to get it just right by real time recording it. If I'm having big trouble, I know I can use this technique to help. Thanks.
These are the videos Roland should have given us when the unit released! Very helpful, thanks

Thanks for the awesome feedback. Glad they have been helpful even years later. The JDXi is a lot of fun and totally worth the money.
I just ordered mine. Nice video. Can the unit perform double/quad/eight hits like on the behringer rd8 rhythm designer?
Great tips with the fader for different drum sounds overlayed and also thought the hihat velocity variation you did was really helpful. Thanks 🤘
Glad it was helpful!
that video is super useful. many viewers could have been coming up with those ideas by themselves, but you saved us a lot of time. thank you!

You cannot. No ability to mix and match.
Thanks for replying !
cool trick with the fading in - to me the JD XI is a pretty underestimated drum machine!
Good trick the arpegetor on drums..

are you stuck with the original pitch for the drums or can you play them in a chromatic mode?

hold Enter + Erase. shortcut to erase all knob wheel etc performance. that should do it

Another question: do you know why my "Real Time Rec" stops by itself once the loop pattern restarts? Anyway to make it stay on until i play a note?
Try engaging it and don't play any notes. If it stays on then that might mean you are hitting your first note a smidge too early.
@@ghoststalkermusic it doesnt give me a chance to hit any notes because it stops recording once the patter restarts.

Great synth! Unfortunately with a bad keybed, I broken keys 7 times and I know I'm not the only one.
I had to sell it out of desperation.. :(
you probably bought a used one that someone abused. If it was new, why would you not use the warranty to have it fixed or replaced? makes no sense.
I use midi keyboard to control jd XI, it's keys I touch only slightly when need to adjust a sound and do arpeggios.
Time to fire my drummer
