You are a Godsend. I've only just started my journey and have learned more watching this than any of the other dozen vids and certainly more than the user guide. Your video should be on a disc packed in every box that goes out of the factory. Well done mate!
This unit has all Roland drum machine sounds from their history (over 450) Plus you can modify each one individually with effects ! THIS UNIT CAN BE YOUR DRUM MACHINE FOR EVERYTHING !! The sequencer can be up to 12 bars (watch the Diaz from Roland videos) and slow tempo down. 2 digital and one analog synth along with drums each have their own channel. Each modifiable with surface knobs and much much more in the menu !! You can step sequence or loop on the fly !! You can chain your sequencer/loops together live by pressing the next one if put in favorites
These videos are so good, this guy needs to do the boutique vids, and I'd like to see him do the 500 series and aira effects (bitrazer, demora) etc. these animations of the Lfo, envelopes etc make the comple ideas really easy and clear to follow even though it's fast... Great job! I'm actually reconsidering, especially since the Red one came out at Store DJ.
It's been out for awhile but I just picked one up after looking into one for a long time. I love it overall and have made some great songs so far. A few complaints like not being able to output to a DAW individual drum sounds for recording, you get the whole kit, and a ADSR not being on the front panel. But so far that's about it. great little synth!
Great tutorials! I look st other mini synths too, but I find none other that offers as much. And this synth is so logical!! Just up and running, creating sequences in no time st all!! Just what I need. Just hope I will like the mini keys. I have quite small hands i think so it should be ok.
I've just discovered by accident that by keeping your finger on the shift button you can change single chords while playing . Also if you go into the set up menu you can change bar length
Take delivery of mine tomorrow! Can't wait! I been thinking about buying a cool synth for awhile now. This will a great addition to my live rig! Next on my list is the System 1 Plug Out and the the GAIA.
@adamlangley6033 Sorry for my noob question ha but when you say "discontinued" does that mean if I was to purchase one I would no longer get tech support from Roland? Such as firmware and patches etc? Thank you for your time.
How is your JDXI doing man?I hi I of buying one?I mean the analog engine and the drum machine by themselves is good enough to buy it.Not to mention the Roland Supernatural synth engine with added fx like delay and reverb ect.Killer
Watching this in March 2020....the program he demos called Getting Close....has a whole new meaning. Something we are not doing these days. :o( I wonder if Virus synth sales have decreased.
I would like to see a Wave Display.. a display that shows the wave, e.g. sine wave, square, sawtooth etc etc.. then when you start manipulating the sound/sound wave you can see wave changing while being sculpted.. just like on the EA-7 keyboard.. but made smaller like one currently on djxi.. two of them in both corners.. or somewhere easy to see..
How can we get the arppegiator to sound like a regular flat arp? For some reason mine always sounds like its panning or something (like an ebb and flow type of thing going on :I
I love this synth, but I would like to use regular sized keys. How can I use an external keyboard with the JDXI. If I plug an external keyboard into the line in and put the switch on LINE I have to select Vocoder to get it to work, and this makes the external keyboard sound distorted through the vocal FX. Is there a way to control the synth with the external keyboard without the vocal FX coloring the signal? Thanks
Nice demo. I like the concept of this synth, except I am longing for a workstation like this that lets you create an entire song that isn't juat one pattern. I want to chain various sections of a song with chord changes, and I want to do this without a computer.
Hi Racing Heart Records, check out the Roland FA Series, which contain a 16 track sequencer, sampling and a great range of sounds. www.roland.com/au/products/fa_series/
Thanks for the reply! I looked at the FA-series sequencer, and it's not what I'm seeking. Also, I really love the synth controls like on the JD-series. Basically, I want a virtual synth workstation.
Hi there, thanks for your question! To save tones press the [Menu] button, move the cursor to "Tone Edit", press [Enter], then move the cursor to "Tone Name" and press enter. Use the cursor buttons to move to each letter in the tone name and use the [Program (Pattern)] buttons to change the letters of the alphabet. Press [Enter]. The Tones still need to be saved in the Program so press the [SHIFT] [WRITE] buttons together, (change the Program name with the same process if desired) then hit [ENTER] three times observing the instructions on screen.
About programs, where is the start point/number where user programs are stored so I don’t overwrite preinstalled programs? I have loaded a preinstalled house program, how can I edit the drum parts? I don’t understand how to use the erase button. For example I want to delete only the hi hat part in the drum part. You also show how to adjust the numbers of bars, but how can I sequence one part and make it continue to part 2,3 etc. F. ex my Volca has 16 bars/steps and 8 patterns/sequences if you understand what I mean? I think I need to dive into the manual. 😄
The only thing i HATE about mine? Those absolutely useless bender "Wheel" and mod "Wheel" why Roland didnt put a proper bend lever on it is beyond me. Other than that...its a great lil Synth.
Is the JDXA a similar workflow, but with more controls native and easily accessible on the main panel, and trades in those annoying mini-keys for full size ones?
great review-tutorial: a question: if i want to create a drum-beat part with some subparts...can i mute them during the play mode or i have just one option an play the hole beat ?
Dear Roland, please can you help, i'm having trouble with the Tempo Lock, it says it's on lock but i can still stroll up/down the tempo? This is so annoying especially when you're doing a live mix & accidentally touch the tempo knob ! Any other Jdxi users having this issue ? (ver 1.51) Thanks!
Hey there, TEMPO LOCK just means that each “PROGRAM” will lock into a global tempo setting. This means you can scroll through the different beats and they will all stay in time with whatever tempo has been set. It doesn't mean that the tempo will be unassigned from the tempo knob. Hope that helps!
@@roland_aus Great! Thanks for your reply, just thought it was a Master Tempo lock,it would be nice to have both option's (Master Tempo lock aswell!) but glad for your answer! :) Btw do you think that Roland could do an update for the JDxi,it would be nice to have longer pattern lengths i.e more than 4 ...8 would be a nice start! :) Thanks again!
Wait so the Envelope knob basically affects the tone ADSR on this synth? I'be been trying to tweak up some nice 1980s poly-synth type strings/leads for this synth but seem to be having a little trouble as i'm not terribly versed in synthesis :(. But am trying to learn. Does anyone have any cool ideas or tips? Thx in advance for any suggestions!
+Glen M You don't need a computer to use it since it's a synth, not a MIDI controller. About the AT60, not familiar with that, but JDXi has MIDI IN and OUT, so I think you can use it with the AT60.

This is amazing, Mark! I went and tested one today. Adding this to my arsenal after 21 years of guitar. Your tutorial definately sealed the deal.
Great job. I was regretting not getting the bassstation 2 until I saw this video

Great little keyboard, sounds great, and now easy to operate, thanks to this great tutorial. Thanks
They sound so good. I had to get one. My first Roland.
Thanks to your fun and easy-to-follow videos, I've just picked up my very own one of these and I can't wait to try it out. Thank you!

@Richard Longford they both died on their way to pick one up

Thank you so much for this to the point tutorial. I picked up my red jdxi 2 weeks ago and have been having a blast with it.. cheers.
this demo has sold a ton of these things. including one to me!
Best video I've seen so far on the Roland JD-Xi (Thanks Matt)
Extremely helpful. Thank you.
Very helpful video for me as a beginner with my jdxi. Thank you.
Such a helpful, well-explained series of tutorials. Thank you for this!
Glad you found it useful!

Really good tutorial, thanks! Better than the US 'beatz' tutorial which is cringe worthy. This is simple, straight to the point.
how many times did that make a point about saying "beatz" with extra emphasis on the "beATZ"
The Aussie way mate!
Informative and good watch and listen

thank you very much for this vide, i use this synth to make my music, very good synth and not expensive! the best synth with drum kits for this $
Great video. I've got one of these in the post so I'll be back. Thanks.

Thanks! I was about to sell mine & get an SP404 Mkll
Great tutorial, very helpful to decide whether this is something for me or not. *drool*
Congrats for the tutorials. I am really thinking serious about to buy one Roland JD Xi.
Got a Jupiter XM but I will add this jdxi as well

What's with the baby keys on such a great synth? Some of us actually like to play them! I'd buy this with full sized keys in a flash.

This is a great tutorial, but does this have piano sounds?
Just got one of these, I got a flashback X4 to for all my delays, more control of the delay this way
I'm buying it too,I got the Flashback triple delay and alter ego x4,BigSky can't wait to test it on them.
Great introduction and demo!
great little tutorial, covered everything i needed too...does roland supply the mic? I got a used one but the mic was not included.
Thank you very much. That was very helpful!

Is it possible to ( layer sounds ) on each other ? thanks
So it is multi timbral....? Thats the holy grail!!
some nice sounds in there but the keyboard size puts me off, I cant play mini keys
aw man, no dedicated knobs for envelope? :s
You can get to them via the menu or editor, I know they should be on the front panel.
wawooo, prefect tuto, thank you !!!
Anybody knows is it possible to output timbers separately (let's say bass from headphones and another timbre from stereo output)?

Right... But how to do a serious live set with this thing and not just play around??
Can it be used with a midi foot controller? (Roland PK-5A , Keith McMillen Instruments 12 Step, etc)
Thank you!
