thanks for all your jdxi tutorials, I have had mine over a year and couldnt get on with it, suddenly things are clicking with me and now getting into the sound designing things are happening. It would be great if you could get rid of all those horrible dance funk presets and have more space for loading new sounds.
Hi dozerblade - yes but after the 1.05 update we get a stack of program space. What sort of music do you do on the JD-XI? Thanks for the nice comments too, appreciate you taking the time to write!
Hi Ranzee, i used to have an Xp 60 which I did all sorts of jingles and 12 minute marathons, just for pleasure and then I didn't touch it for 11 years so I sold it , and then saw these Jd 's on you tube and fancied one, I thought all that trance stuff which people demoed was what they had programmed on it, I really like the synth instrumental stuff done by Alan Parsons project and JMJ and fancy doing my own take on it. I have just downloaded the manager and had a quick fiddle, it is so much easier that trying to peer in that tiny window, to shape a sound. I think I am getting the bug again! I also fancy a Korg Kross, I think I might find that sequencer a bit more familiar !
@@ranzee Still the JD-XI has been the favorite of all the synths I've owned including a Virus, Nord, Pro One etc. It's just so much fun and sounds great.
A. Turn Legato ON in the Tone Common menu. Play some notes staccato (releasing the key before pressing another). It works as expected: envelopes retrigger at the point they were in the release from the prior note. Next, play notes legato (press next note before releasing previous). It works as expected: envelopes don't retrigger. B. Now turn legato OFF in the Tone Common menu and repeat the above test. Staccato notes work as expected (envelopes retrigger at the point they were in the release from the prior note), but when playing legato, the envelopes reset to zero for each note instead of starting at the release level of the prior note.
Hi theshepard22, there's a Linux version. I believe Chromebooks are a Linux kernel. You could talk to the developer via his website and see if it will work.
Yay , i made an analogue patch then dumped it to USER bank E61and then saved via the JD-XI via SHIFT and WRITE buttons , just modded it and tried to write to EXTRA bank but that doesnt show :( seems you can only write to USER Banks E-H , does anyone know how to save to EXTRA banks S-Z ? seems roland have not enabled writing to these banks via menu and you can only load these banks While holding down the ENTER button, power-on the JD-Xi. The screen will display “Extra Bank...,” and an “EXTRA” folder opens in the screen of your computer. So what i am gathering here is that you fill a user bank with patches then save those to computer then load them to EXTRA , Fail Roland :(
Thumbs up! I'm new to the JDXi and the big question for me is...after you edit your sounds, how do you save them? Can you re-import your edited sound and over-write the stock version and use the new version for all programs? sure hope so...I really want to raise the volume of almost every sound. I hope you don't have to save it to Program E01, E02...etc.
Hi Laura Woodswalker :) you can only save programs (i.e all 4 parts) on the JD-XI itself. However you can save individual patches to your computer and then make your own programs that way. One you get your head around that you'll be able to do what you mentioned. A little convoluted, but that's Roland for ya! Enjoy! I have another JD-XI video coming very soon so don't forget to sub :)
So, you can't save your edited program back to the "patch library" of the JDxi? Or enter it as a "new patch"? So if I edit the patch in the computer and re=import it to the synth, will my edits apply to all instances of that tone?
You can save the edited program - but not individual patches independently. You save Digital 1, Digital 2, Drums and Analog as a program. If you have just edited 1 patch in that - the whole program saves including the patch you just edited. So the answer is yes. The JD-XI has a memory buffer - so any edits you do on the software will be lost unless you save it on the actual synth. Remembering that it saves a program. There are numerous "user" banks since the last update i.e. Banks E onwards are all blank. Plenty of places for you to experiment. Also you can save individual patches to your computer from the software - so you can make up your own patch library - and then make programs from that on your synth. Like I said, once you get your head around the whole program vs patch thing - you'll be fine :)
Hi. When you save the modification or edit to the sound and save it in the computer, does it save it also in the JDxi program? Or i need to launch the app in order to play on the JDXI synth? What i mean is very simple. Can i save the patch I have created not in the category of course you cannot add there but at list in the program E01 or E02 ect,,,
I gave my JD-XI a new companion for some extra analog voices. An Alpha Juno-1. Surprisingly with a larger LCD than the more recent JD-XI. No to forget the Alpha Dial a really intuitive way of interacting and navigating menus. JD-XI and XA for that matter look like kids calculators with their small mushy rubber buttons and pattern change mishaps .those are awful.
Hi :) Watch this space (or channel I should say, lol) there's a video coming out that shows how to give you full control of the AMP and Filter envelopes (ADSR)!!
I disagree- I never tweak ADSR settings when doing sound design- it's either a fully open pad/ drone or a plucky sequence sound- I also never tweak filter cuttoff- it gets set and stays there- I use modulation for the filter- I never understood why others tweak env/filter so much-

excellent tutorial on how the analogue JD-XI manager functions
Hi John Goodlass. Many thanks for the comments. Hope you have a great week!
sure will
It's a shame you can't de-tune the sub oscillator, I guess that would be two oscillators then.
hi Pulse2AM. Absolutely! that would be awesome!

2:43 Hey! We've all had that problem mate 😆
hehe
sorry, what's the different between the LEGATO button on or off, I cannot find the difference, thank you~

Great work! I am using this useful editor too :)
Hi J Cesarsound :) Thanks for watching - good luck with your JD-XI music!
Do you have any idea how I could get this program up on my chromebook?!?!?!
Hi theshepard22, there's a Linux version. I believe Chromebooks are a Linux kernel. You could talk to the developer via his website and see if it will work.
Have you MIDI’ed the JD-XI to your Boutiques?
Hi Valdis, I have - they play nicely with each other!

The patches cannot be saved in part - they need to be saved as programs. It's a little frustrating.
I installed the JD XI manager but I don't hear sound from my JD XI,do I need to set the USB to vendor or what in the menu, please answer.
T.I.N Mateus sound comes out main output or headphones?
Fallen in lurve wi mine again. Such a little filthbox innit.
Is there stable mac version please?
Mint vids mate

Hi bmxband1t77! Thanks mate! There's another developer who did a Mac version. You can get it via the App store, just search for JD-XI :)
