Thanks for reacting to this! This movie is one of my all time favorites. This came out in 2000, just after Keanu had done the first Matrix movie. Unfortunately the movie just did modestly at the box office - I think it should have done much better. Keanu took a reduced salary for the movie so they could hire Gene Hackman to play the coach

This is loosely based on the Washington Redskins 1987 season. There was a strike. Replacement players played 4 games. They did go 3-1 and they did beat the Cowboys who primarily had all of their professionals back.. the Redskins won the Super Bowl that year (with the returned professional players).
A new coach was not hired. But the coach for the real life Redskins who coached then, is considered one of the best coaches in NFL history..

The replacement players did not initially get Super Bowl rings. They were finally given rings over 30 years after the game. It was the only good thing Dan Snyder did.

Great reaction Cami, like always, love this movie, and its so underrated, there are some fun-facts about it. Keanu Reeves gained 23 pounds for his role as quarterback Shane Falco. During filming, Keanu Reeves was offered a tryout with the Baltimore Ravens. The Baltimore Ravens would eventually go on to win Super Bowl XXXV less than 6 months after this film release. Training and practice took place at Glen Burnie High School, in Glen Burnie, MD. The football coach worked with the cast and crew on plays. Archie L. Harris Jr., who plays Wilson Carr, was an actual replacement player during the 1987 NFL strike. He played offensive tackle for the Denver Broncos, who eventually lost in Super Bowl XXII to the Washington Redskins. Earl Wilkinson is based on Tony Robinson, who was a replacement quarterback for the Washington Redskins in a game against the Dallas Cowboys during the 1987 NFL strike. Robinson was an inmate on work release, and he was allowed to play that one game and led the Redskins to a 13-7 victory on Monday Night Football. It was one of the biggest upsets of the 1987 season. Robinson eventually was released from prison in 2012. Fumiko's war cry, "Nan desu ka!" in Japanese actually means "What is this?" lol And a now a dark fact, Wilkinson character (Michael Jace) is temporarily released from prison to play for the Washington Sentinels. During games, he wears a jersey with the surname Smith, because having a convicted felon on the team would likely draw a lot of unwanted attention/criticism. Coincidentally, Jace was convicted of second-degree murder in 2016 and was sentenced to 40 years to life in prison. Keep up the good work.

I've always enjoyed an underdog movie, and "The Replacements" (2000) is fun! Also worth a watch is "Necessary Roughness" (1991). It is pretty similar to this except that it is college football and it was made first.

Excellent !!! This is an underrated movie, I think.Maybe after this, you could check out: POINT BREAK (1991) Keanu Reeves, Patrick Swayze, Gary Busey, Lori Petty.
That's the original with Keanu Reeves, from 1991, and NOT the no-soul remake from later.
    Tia. Peace -
    PS
    Really nice job.

Hi Cami, looking cute in your Popcorn Roulette jersey!😊 It is very weird seeing Jon Favreau younger before the MCU, and playing a different character. The film lost money at the box office, but it was up against two bigger films. It actually had an "A-" average when polled at the theaters. It is much more appreciated in digital media. Great reactions to this fun football film, Cami!!!!🎬👏👏👏👏

Unless the main team won the Super Bowl that year, can you imagine how much the fans hated them? They go on strike 4 games before the play-offs because they wanted more money. A team that was making 50 dollar's a game won enough games to get them into the playoff with Martell, almost costing them their chance until Falco steps back in. Then the whole team crosses back over for play-off games they didn't earn. So if they then lose. The fans are going to lench them.

This is a great movie. Don’t see many react to it. 12:38 the big question is how did they get that setup like that. They’re on strike and shouldn’t be in the stadium. Watching this makes me realize how much I miss hearing John Madden during NFL games. Some of the guys they have today are horrible.

Actually wild yam is a natural anti-inflammatory, muscle relaxant, and promotes blood flow. It’s also a mild anti-bacterial and anti-fungal. On the downside it contains elements that get converted in the body to progesterone (female hormones). In moderation males need progesterone to convert to testosterone so it can also support muscular growth and endurance. However, like all things, in excess and combined with too many other hormones it could lead to the opposite effect (although a simple topical cream used periodically would be way lower than those thresholds).
I only actually looked at the effect of it after watching this movie so many times (from like 2002-2010 or so it was almost always playing on TBS or TNT)

That was cool I haven't seen The Replacements in years. Still sooo good. Invictus by Clint Eastwood starring Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman is another great sports movie based of the true story of Nelson Mandela uniting South Africa under their national rugby team while hosting the World Cup. Even as an Aussie Rugby fan I have to begrudgingly admit it's an inspirational example of a team playing for something bigger than themselves.
