Just streaming a casual 4K/60 at 51Mbps for about 1.5 hours without a SINGLE dropped frame 🎉🎉🎉 I edited the video down a bit as there was a lot of fiddling about initially

4:38 - I love the "spring" for the vorticella, their stem/stalk that connects them to the plant is like a tube with a thin ambilical in it. I'm not sure if the ambilical is just a muscle to help it retract or if it actually brings nutrients to the anchor or what. I found my first vorticella a few last week and I was so stoked lol, now the only things I have yet to find are a stentor and a tardigrade. I'm open to seeing anything and enjoy it a lot, I found some shelled omoeba today and didn't even know about them but found them very fascinating.

The spring has an awesome name: the “spasmoneme”

@@diettoms That's awesome lol. Thanks for your quality content and tips on microscopy, it's helped me get interesting and visually pleasing results.

12:20 - I thought the midge was trying to eat the vorticella lol, but I guess it just touched it and a ton of whatever secretion it uses got stuck to it? I always thought they just fanned water towards their mouth and grabbed what came close, I guess it makes sense they'd secrete a mucous to make prey stick... wow.

I never noticed that before! I’m not sure of the mucous origin 🤔
