- My VW golf 5 had a problem where from time to time you couldn't start the car as something inside the ignition start kept bloccking it from turning. One day because the car was unable to start, i decided to take everything apart and change it.
I hope this video helps you in one way or another and you willfix your car by yourself and not pay a fortune at the dealer service.

I have taken the black piece (key locking mechanism ) off the barrel I was wondering can I just put this on a new barrel and use the same key from before ??? without having too have a new key Thanks

Wat tools is needed?
About those (security) bolts with heads sheared off. Nice technique, using chisel or sharp screw driver to loosen them. what size are the replacement bolts. Would like to get them before I start.

What tool do I need to remove the steering wheel. It looked like you used an Allen wrench but the socket didn’t look like an Allen wrench socket.

What's the right technique todo remove the brakeaway bolts?
I make a small hole with a drill and then insert a torx.
The steering wheel lock can be removed without removing the signal and wiper levers. Success.
Do you have to get new keys synced after?
No

What’s the situation with the key once finished? Can you use the new key that comes with it and the engine will start straight away or must you use get it programmed?
I fixed the old one and still used the same key. I didn't changed the cylinder

@@DanielH and how? That would be the point! How did you removed the immo ring, when the key wasn't able to turn to the ignition position?
I went back and forth with the key until it turned and was able to take it apart. I had a piece of metal inside that was flying around and didn't let the key turn. It was stressful enough
@@DanielHif the new Infiniti on switch’s come with a key just take the internals from your old key and put it in the new one
How to remove the plate that is under the Switch is that my friend's is a bit strong and I'm afraid of breaking it, I don't see any lock or clip that visibly stops it
Check other videos, there are two holes (long and narrow) where you insert something inside to loosen the clips.
This exact same thing happened to me yesterday when I finished my shift. I can't afford a new barrel, do you think I can fix this stuck one ? Key won't turn to ignition.
In order to be able to take take it apart you need to rotate the key in the barrel. Don't force it, back and forth, tray gentle taps until that loose piece of metal let's you rotate, take apart, find the problem, put it back together and might work.
You need a lot a pacience, i took it apart and put it back together like 10 times until I got it to work. It's a lot of small pieces that only go one way.
Also i cut the immobilizer because I was afraid of not getting wheel stuck at high speed.
Might as well look for a used barrel, here we have used parts and they are kinda cheap.
@@DanielH I'm in the uk and the cheapest is 70£. Figured If I take the whole assembly out then it's easier to tap and rotate, because now I tried to tap the key with the end of a screwdriver and it doesn't do anything.
I’m swapping to the new key and lock cylinder. Do I just need to have the old key close to the ignition to sense the chip?

@@DanielH sweet! I figured having the old key in close proximity is easier than swapping the sensor chip to the new key.

Did u beat them loose ? Or did u make a cut in the centre to fit a flat screwdriver ?
I am now at that point and dont know how to proceed.
Using a flat screwdriver and a hammer I gently beat on them until it made a small gap and was able to turn them, after that I used normal hex screws

Did you have to swap parts over from your old lock cylinder? Thank you
I took the old cylinder apart and there was a loose chunk of aluminum that blocked everything. I didn't filmed that because it was a lot of work and frustration because I had to put and start again over and over again.
If you change the cylinder you will have 2 keys, one to start the engine and the old key to unlock the car.
@@DanielH my problem is my key won't turn so I can't put it into accessory to get the key portion off. Any idea?

I had the same issue but you need to try until you can turn it. I tried a lot of times until I could turn the key.
Your new key does it come with a new transponder cip....how can the immobilizer system reconizeses the new transponder in the new key
Some electric guy told me if you change your cylinder, you'll have to use 2 keys. Your old key to open the car and new key to start it.

I did this myself and put old lock mechanism onto new steering lock, now the electrics all turn on and work fine but no ignition?
Do you have 2 keys? Maybe use the key from the new lock
@@DanielH I didn’t get a new lock, just the steering lock, fitted old immobiliser to new steering lock. Steering lock just came with ignition switch and no immobiliser

A good sharp screw driver and hammer to make a mark and be able to rotate the screws that hold the ingnition start in place. They are round head with no way to turn it.

I repaired the old barrel. It had a broken piece of metal that didn't allow it to rotate. Works fine until now

What size is the part for getting the bolt from the steering wheel??
I think I used an sharp screw driver and with hammer and gentle hit it until it made room to turn it.
Cr-v 12. I used a T55 s2 cr-v and it worked just fine
Hes talking about the 12mm triple square (12 point) bit its 12 mm
It's called a XZN triple square M12 (12mm) spline bit. They have 12 points that fit inside the bolt you're trying to remove/install. They usually come in sets from M4 to M18 or larger.

From auto dismantling shops for cheap parts

For that bolt I used a hammer and a screw driver. Gentle taps until the flat screwdriver made a place on the screw head and then used that to unscrew. Was a little time consuming

Changed the bolt for easy disassembly in the future

Da, baiu mai mare e că are șurube cu cap neted. A destul de complicat sa le dai jos. Acuma am pus cu cap normal.

Bătut cu o mica daltă până și-a făcut loc, și cu șurubelnița plată. Bătăi mici și ușoare, durează ceva

There are some RUclips videos on how to take apart the whole thing. Unfortunately I didn't film the process. It was stressful and I had to spend a good amount of time until I put it back together.

Eu am reușit să mi-l repar butucul original. Avea o mică bucată de metal ruptă înăuntru, cu greu l-am asamblat înapoi. Daca pui alta cheie cu alt butuc, trebuie sa ai cheia originală langa tine când pornești, deci cu cheia originală incui descui și cu cea noua doar învârți de butuc.
Sunt amator, mă ocup cu tâmplăria artizanală și mici reparatii pentru mine, nu fac reparatii auto

@@DanielH dacă schimb contactul , vreau sa îl iau de pe eBay vreo £30 vine cu alte chei , eu cheia veche mi sa rupt din suportul de plastic , pot sa pornesc mașina cu cheia aia noua si asta veche sa o țin in mașina aproape de contact ?
Poți lua cipul din cheia ta și pui in cheia ce vine cu contact. Asta daca nu merge varianta cu cheia lângă contact.
