Toughest part of disassemble was getting the airbag removed. Have to pull very hard. The key wouldn’t release, so I had to cut the back of the old mechanism off to get it to release. Went back together about 15 minutes. Works like a charm. New part is $170 USD at this date Thanks dude!
Everything is beautifully shown, such people really help because there are so many unknowns so as not to damage the hooks. Greetings from Poland. Have a nice day, sir
Thanks for the video. Did this same think today however you dont need to take steering wheel off. Top cover, botom cover, bottom box and two bolts eather drill or bang with flat screwdriver to remove the barrel.
Thanks very much for uploading this. I like the way you point out the tabs and which way they work. Without your help I would have paid a vehicle locksmith a ton of money to sort out my broken steering lock.
Many thanks for doing this video. You save my Caddy.🙏🏻 I do some things differently than you and I don't have to remove the steering wheel, I use bolt remover for the broken bolts (have to dril a 3.5mm hole in the screw head) and a torx bit instead a screwdriver. Works very well. Without this video I never be able to fix it. Thanks and I wish you the best.
Thank you so much for your video, it’s helped me so much to fix the problem I had on my golf. I had no idea what to do until I saw this. God bless you and your family. Cheers from Australia. 🍻😊
Thank you for the video, I just got my Jetta done.the only struggle was getting the top screws out so I drilled a notch on the top and hammer them out just like you,and also I was able to keep my same key. 👍👍
Thank you for posting this fantastic helpful video, it looks like a lot of awkward fiddly work, but a real life saver, THANK YOU for the time and trouble, please post more, it deserves Millions of up votes and likes 🙂 Bless
Question about the 3 plug harness that connects to back of actual switch- the middle connects inside of black box -but --where does the last (two wire) plug connect?
7:45 lol don't do it the way this guy does it here.. His looked like they were barely tightened. Mine I had to use a screw extractor it was that stuck on there.

I glued a nut with jb weld to the screw head and was able to remove it easily.
On Jetta .don't need to remove steering wheel. Remove plastic surroundings. 2 top screws . Disconnect electrical plugs. Pry out cylinder.
Excelente muchas gracias 🎉
Awsome video I was wondering I got a new ignition switch with key do I have to program the key ?
Yes, you have to program it. I have replaced just cylinder housing.

Did you reconnect all cables? If the reading coil isn't connected to the ECU, it can't detect your key's transponder.
