WARNING!!! IF YOU BUY A NEW IGNITION DO NOT TURN IT WITH A SCREWDRIVER! It will lock the ignition and you're screwed again. You can only turn it if the cylinder lock is placed in the housing. I learned that the hard way... This guy's video is on point though.

What if the holes on your ignition lock won’t line up? How do you get it out then?

I bought a new ignition lock cylinder from O’Reilly for about $55. I did open up the old one out of curiosity and the same piece was broken inside.

Video was pretty good, however you did not address the broken piece. Where did it break off from? What was the purpose of that piece?

Great video! Concise. To the point. Found exactly same piece of metal. Left out bent spring, long rod, various bits and pieces under the cover on the side. Works better than new. No known issues so far. Thanks!

Just a huge thank you. Exact same problem, broken piece. Had a big mess up reassembling back, got the alignment wrong, ended up braking the keyfob. Eventually everything fell into place and working fine. Thank you. Jazakallahu Kairan. Alhamdu Li ALLAH.

This video literally just saved my ass. Same exact issue, I was about to order a whole new ignition housing with key until I saw this video. 45min later and my cars fixed and it didn't cost me a penny. You are a hero and a legend sir.

This video help me a great deal with my old Rabbit; especially the part aligning the key switch. The way you point the camera at it allowing everyone to see, and then you explain detail by detail the assembly back, was a real pro dude. You certainly earned my like and my subscription.

Just finished fixing my wife's EOS. The problem was EXACTLY like yours so not only have you saved us a bunch of money, I now have a couple of new small tools that I purchased to do the job. You're an absolute legend!

There's a few of these videos on RUclips. This one and part 1 of this series in my opinion are the best. Thanks Bulli Kid, much appreciated! For those looking to do this in Australia it's quite a detailed task. My car faught me at every steps and it took me about 6 hours. Some steps were different in my Jetta which is probably an Australian right hand drive thing, so took a bit of problem solving. The steps do work and my ignition works and feels the same as before, so be patient and search the comments for answers if you get stuck.

Was a beautiful demo. I had to figure a couple small details out along the way. Replace a spring with a lighter spring. The end game was the same. Works smother then it has been. Did it all an a hour and a half.

Thank you. You gave me all I needed to sold my issue. Just one thing. I used a right angle drill and removed 2 screws to remove instrument cluster. DONT melt it out of your way.

  • @billyg7798

I had the exact same failure, little half moon piece came out in my hand. Was trying to drill out that little cap on the side and it started spinning. The drilled a little sideways into the hole I’d started and the spring came out, so i didn’t bother removing it and the plunger, just put it back together. Great vid and thanks for the help!
