So comparing this to the Nikon 35mm S video, it looks like: Viltrox has better corner sharpness but lower contrast and ghosting at large apertures Nikon has significantly better close focusing abilities Both are pretty bad against bright lights Bokeh looks a bit better on the Nikon imo Both suffer from similar levels of LoCA Pretty weak performance by the Nikon, honestly - though I'd still pick it because the close focus abilities are important to me.
I bought one for my Z5 and i'm not satisfying, this lenses have problems with autofocus. About 90% photos are not in focus, mostly is front focus. I came back to the distrybutor of this lenses in Poland, we tested 3 more pcs in 2 cameras and all result is the same. I contacted witch 3 testers of this lenses and only 1 had a sharp pictures with face/eye auto focus. Got 85 viltrox too and it is great lens, love it.
I believe that Viltrox is probably using a Z 35mm lens profile to trick the camera into thinking it's a native Z lens. After watching your Z 35mm review, it seems this might be the case, since the Z version exhibits some barrel distortion whereas the Viltrox suffers from slight pincushion, so it could be that applying the in-camera correction further pushes the sides inward to correct for the barrel distortion on the OEM Z 35mm.
Wonder why Canon and Nikon don't open up their mounts. I mean sure, with that you force users into using your native lenses, but seriously it seems to me that this more drives people away from your system, making it less appealing. Especially those who can just barely upgrade to those newer FF mirrorless system will prefer to have the option to buy cheaper yet pretty great lenses from Sigma, Samyang or Tamron. For instance, Nikons 24-70mm f2.8 is fantastically sharp lens, but at over 2500 Euros many would prefer Sigmas less sharper, but still very sharp 24-70 for "just" 1200 Euros. As much as i like the Z cameras for their colours, resolution and dynamic range, if i ever am going to upgrade to a mirrorless, i'm seriously reconsidering changing the brand.
I have Viltrox 85mm/1.8 and that USB port for firmware update just stopped working after three months. Stupid idea but the lens is pretty sharp and has a good bokeh. I intend to swap it for Sigma 85mm/1.4 do dn soon.
For my zf I first bought the 28 & 40mm se. They were not bad but I can t bear their plastic feeling , plastic bayonet and ridiculous front lens. I tried the 35mm Viltrox all metal (including the bayonet) a sun shade (plastic but I don t care for this) and an aperture ring. In fact all what Nikon should have done for its Zf…. So I resold the two Nikkor SE lenses and I kept the Viltrox.
Hi Christopher, If you had to choose a mirrorless camera system, what would it be? Sony, Canon, Fuji or Nikon. Im a Canon DSLR user and I want to upgrade! Thanks!
I am actually loving Viltrox Z lenses. I have the 85 and the 24mm so far. I have the 35mm on its way in the mail now. I am super impressed with these lenses
I'd be (very !! ☺) interested in a test of older glass, like the Nikon F-mount 35mm F/2 (same with older 20, 24, 50 or 85mm...). And keep up the good work !
Lack of clickable aperture ring is a deal breaker. The whole point of the tactile experience is to be able to feel your way around the camera. This was a fail.
Interested how this compares to sony 35 1.8 It feels a bit overpriced though. But aperture ring is nice. Would be interested in 20mm 1.8 if they make it - it need more competition on that fl
I am not fond of those lenses. Low budget, low quality in every department one can think of. The warping of the image make me sick strapping ulta wide angle lenses to your eyes without being ultra wide. Garbage lens.

Third party AF lens only for Z mount. Now that's something i don't hear often.

I bought the newly launched Viltrox 56mm f/1.4 for apsc z mount. Its such a good value for money lens. Love it

The Sigma 85mm DG DN is a ridiculous lens. Every time I use it it produces SOOC images that look like they've been edited. It's surreal.
was just looking into this lens since Wednesday and now CF puts out this gem. thanks CF!!
But how does it compete with Nikon's own 40mm f2, that is even cheaper?

Another viltrox lens (after the 24mm) that avoids focus breathing, but manages to introduce focus distortion instead

Hows the AF compared to a native z lens?
Same as the third party, will you also get the TTArtisan 32mm f/2.8 AF Zmount to reiview?

Thanks for this video. This lens doesn’t seem quite as good as the Viltrox 85. Is that a fair understanding?
Now at Viltrox headquarters (yelling): " I said correct for pincushion distortion not barrel!.."
Is it wide angle like the Nikor Z 35mm ultra wide?
5:41 Excellent video !!! Are you studying ancient Greek?

Hi, can we still benefit from IBIS with this lens?
I actually prefer this lens over the Nikon Z 40 F2, because it gives better bokeh. The 40’s bokeh has harder edges.
I would enjoy to see you test the 85mm viltrox for nikon z
Please review 85mm viltrox nikon z mount.
hi chris do you think this will perform well like this with the sony e mount?
Would be very interesting to see it compared to Samyang 35mm 1.8 on Sony
why is this performing better than the sony mount?
I know so much about lenses I don't need and will never own because of this channel.
Seems sharper than Z35/1.8 from 2.8 on.

great review
very good review
I am honestly quite fond of lense distortion. At least with my Tamron 35mm on Sony the images gain quite a bit of character.
At last 😍
I'm wanting to hear Christopher to say "This is a totally independent review, so they can kiss my ass."
Next one, Viltrox 85mm 1.8 RF.
this brand has a very bad reputation in China, terrible quality control, awful after sale.
