I knew what the sand was when we only had trailers and I called the wrong anagram thing two months ago too. This has been one of the most satisfying reveals ever in this show for me.
Nice. I had seen the speculation online that it would be Sutekh but probably Wouldn’t have gotten there myself. Especially as, until Saturday, I had t seen Pyramids of Mars (I’ve now rectified that)
When I watched the ep and saw the colonel covered in sand I knew but great job on the anagram I thought it was a villain trying to commercial sell Time lord technology
RTD did say there's a woman on a distant planet that will be vital, so possibly 4:40 is the Doctor on that distant planet
True that is possible. Could be a mid-direct with those lines about earth in the voice over.
Susan
@@CrankyGrandma possibly
@@CrankyGrandma kind of hope so
I agree with you on the memory TARDIS thing for sure. Seeing both the Doctor and Mel in the time window with the TARDIS, then seeing Mel in the MT here and having seen the Doctor in the MT in the D+ trailer, I think it’s a pretty good bet they go into the TARDIS in the TW.
Do you think we’ll get any surprise cameos in there? If Mrs F isn’t Susan I wondered if Carole Anne Forde might show up in the memory TARDIS
@@CulturePhilter with the big Susan tease I sure hope we get a Carole Anne Ford cameo… would be a very wasted opportunity
@@JustinMansfieldWho Forget cameo … we need a regeneration-scene for Susan while Carole Anne Ford is still with us!
@@John_Weiss …and she regenerates into Verada Sethu?
@@JustinMansfieldWho Who's Verada Sethu?
In any case, I really do think RTD should, at the _very least,_ get Carole Anne Ford in to shoot her half of a regeneration-scene, just so the BBC has that for future use, whether now or 20 years from now.
Phil On a rewatch of the story of ruby Sunday I’ve spotted a musical que. as sutekh is manifested yes I using big boy words shame I can’t spell. Listen to the change of music and then go back and watch utopia specifically just before the regeneration from yarna to sackson and tell me in not wrong
Is it from the reveal of the master? I saw someone else mention that. I suspect they just thought it works well as reveal music for a villain with added benefit of being another red herring to throw people
I’m shivering in anticipation for this series’ Davies Ex Machina.
😄
Does anyone think maybe ruby could end up being one of the gods suhtek had listed off? Reborn in a human body but that’s where the snow comes from?
It’s possible, or the child of one, would fit thematically into the series.
I share your fears about the reset button, seems inevitable. Also, I'd prefer if Ruby isn't revealed to be some kind of "higher being". I'd rather see companions be special because they embody the best of humanity and then again, I'd rather the companion isnt the most important person in the universe but i wouldnt be surprised if we get that take here again too.
What I'd like to see is a well-told story with some character development and a conclusion that has consequences.
I don’t mind her being something… although RTD did promise. She was just a normal human and not a Clara like special person.
I wouldn’t want that every companion but it’s ok occasionally.
I do think this season has been too short to really get any character development. They are great together and have fantastic chemistry but everything about them has been the same from day 1 to the finale really.
thanks for the video Phil
My pleasure 🙂
I’d better get around to watching last weeks episode.
I hope the beginning bit with Harriet piloting tardis is them going to the pyramids on mars to actually release sutekh and the beast forms back together with sutekh hopefully his design being his orginal helmet look.
It would be cool to see an updated take on the humanoid version and helmet of Sutekh.
@@CulturePhilterfingers crossed 🤞, also after he released in his true form that when he starts the sandstorms actross the planets.
Not sure if we will see the humanoid version. The newest Tales of the TARDIS confirms that Sutekh has 'evolved' and is no longer the 'size of a man', so I expect this new Anubus-dog form is the only form we'll see
Fairly sure Ruby herself is a Sutekh harbinger.
I wonder if she’s connected but not because she’s a harbinger. At least not Sutekh’s. Maybe she’s one for a “good” god.
Does this mean that part 2 is set after the destruction of Earth , like the "year that never was," Sound of Drums , Last of the Time Lords style, is RTD going to repeat that trick again ? Very disappointing.
I don’t think right from the start of the episode. There are those clips of them riding away from the dust storm to fit in. There could be a time jump at some point though. Maybe after titles or maybe a bit into the episode.
@@CulturePhilter mass destruction before the titles and then a time jump? , I hope they don't drop the ball. Soon find out. 👍
Is ruby the human form of eye of Horus? It was a giant ruby
Oooo interesting idea.
And maybe to ensure events have transpired so she’s there to stop him as the eye they are the ones that go find the non-human eye and turn it into a baby and then Ruby drops her baby self at the church 🤔
@@CulturePhilter yea I was thinking something like how dawn was the key personified in buffy
Ruby the last child from dead earth?
Could be
3:52 - I'm pretty sure this from when the Doctor and Ruby go back in time to 1947, and the reason I say this is because in an old issue of DWM RTD shared an extract from the opening of the Episode 7 script which was set in a US Coffee bar in 1947, now interestingly this scene was nowhere to be found in The Legend of Ruby Sunday so it's either been cut entirely or moved to Episode 8 (Empire of Death) where it would make more sense. Now what puzzles me is how does that relate to anything? Is that part of the key to defeating Sutekh? Is that where he came back? I have no idea but I am intrigued and I can't wait, though yeah I am a bit worried that this might all end in a reset button since stakes this large usually end up that way. But we'll see! I'm excited for this finale all the same though!
Or that storyline moved to there second series, feel like saw something about RTD pushing some story stuff back
@@elliot5569 Nah I don't think so since the Doctor and Ruby are clearly wearing military-like uniforms and this seems to be something to do with Roswell.
Good point. When that scene didn’t turn up I just assumed it must have been a quick pre-title where they see Susan Twist’s face again and finally decided they are going to go investigate it so head to unit.
@@friendlyotaku9525yeah probably is it just feel like the final ep is going to be a lot hopefully Russell's nails it.
@@elliot5569 Thankfully it's a longer episode than previous episodes in this season!
It’s all looking a bit Sound of Drums.
Yeah that’s what I’m worried about. I’d like to see some long lasting effects from attacks on earth in the Whoniverse.
I personally think the doctor will have to find the meddling monk for some reason to help defeat Sutekh
Is that just based on the Monk type robes we’ve seen? Maybe Mrs Flood is the Monk 🤔
@@CulturePhilter yes and the robes from the lady that we think is Ruby's mother. I think it's the monk or a minion. Plus with who possibly owns the copyright of the trickster, I think the Monk could be a different way to have a trickster type character back in Dr Who
@@readytosign I possibly wonder if he’s going to Phaster Osiris… that when you get touched that’s where you go. That’s the robes.
@@JamesShipman-ef1tj very true!
I@@CulturePhilter I wonder if it is the monk? Could be it would be surprise
the strangest thing is last night there was actually a blood moon in the skies no I mean in real life.
Oooo seen from England? I didn’t spot it myself but then I don’t think I even looked outside after dark 😄
@@CulturePhilter yip it was strnge
I think the doctor will find Susan in this episode I am saying at the end of the episode the doctor and Susan will meet again and that’s how the episode will end
If she’s not part of the main plot I think Carole Anne ford could possible appear in the memory TARDIS.
@@CulturePhilter I got a feeling the ending to this episode will be either Ruby Mel or Susan telling 15th to take a break like 14 did so when the next Christmas special comes I think it might be a big time jump but I am almost sure we going to get at least a cameo from Susan
gonna be a crap reboot ending just like you fear. dr stresses in time window sth about ruby not moving a muscle cos if a single snow flake is out of place it can change the future and we already had the butterfly effect thing in an earlier episode.dr will just flip a switch in the tardis and whole world will be put back to normal ;(
Well we’ll find out in less than 24 hours. 😬
The Doctor is going to travel back to the first time he met Sutekh 45 years earlier and find that old Tardis counsel he used to trap Sutekh then and return him to that trap. But a big something else is going to be revealed about the Manor House from that fire another visitor appears one who is frighteningly similar to Mrs Flood only she is young and dressed in red and black then the doctor recognizes her Rani, but in her arms is a baby is Ruby. The Harbinger is also there but she is crying her tears are turning to snow.
Three horsemen of Sutekh the fourth is the Tardis. Doomed Earth but a climber of hope is coming a voice from inside the Tardis " Grandfather I am almost there "Suddenly the Tardis flashes with yellow and a huge lightning blot hits the doors open a figure appears " FANTASTIC I am here Grandfather" Susan Foreman stands before the Doctor he cries. " Susan oh my goodness is it you? ". Then laughter Sutekh says " A family reunion how nice for us all". The doctor lowers his head and Susan hugs him. " Sutekh I am Susan Foreman a time lord and I am not alone". Another comes out of the Tardis an old friend of the doctors and many more the whole human race marches out a few friends appear Ammy and Clara and Rose and an older friend an old soldier and two others Barbara And Ian many old friends.
You know this would be a wish list if it did happen like this every comparison including Sarah Jane Smith facing off against a very evil god to regenerate the Earth? Who knows?
That’s a lot of referencing the past to cram into a few scenes. 😄
spoilers
It reminds me off pyramids of Mars when the doctor took Sarah Jane back to earth in the 80s
Yeah it does have that feel
