You know you're that good when you have builders of instruments thinking of you when they craft new items
Truth👍
…From someone who’s not heard of Dingwall before 😂😂😂
John Taylor is one of the reasons I play bass today.
What's more, the bass line to 'Rio' is undoubtedly one of the best ever written.
Me too.✌️
I still play it.
I believe he was 21 years old when he came up with it …
It's stupid good. Just stellar.
Rio is so fun to play! There's a bass and drums only version floating around on youtube that lets you hear all the little ghost notes and nuances.
John is an amazing bassist and underrated. I’m glad people now realize his immense talent
Now..?
I knew he had immense talent since 1981.😋
I wouldn't go so far as saying he's underrated: he was Bass Player Magazine's player of the year twice during the eighties.
@@sergiosaunier And he also inspired legions of kids to pick up the bass guitar.
@@MrClassicmetal Indeed! Watching the band’s videos and seeing the kid who the girls were sighing for playing the bass, it suddenly became a very cool thing!
@moog 37 What does that have to do with anything? That's rather random.
I was such a small minded metal head as a kid and blew off Duran Duran as a joke. One day I actually listened and they blew my mind. John Taylor is nothing short of a world class musician as are the rest of the band.
I’m looking forward to checking out the four and five stringed versions of this bass! 🤘🤘
Trudat
I was the opposite. I was in a high school where telling someone you were a fan of Duran Duran meant you would be called a fa%. I knew these guys were super talented, and John the most virtuoso of the bunch. I got into metal in my college years and am glad I did.
@@zoso73 I remember that era. You're right! People associated them as a gay band for some reason.
Same. Duran Duran always brought the goods. To me, they were the last pop band with great songs and real chops.
@@RokDAWG1 nothing as g*y as ‘Wham!’
John Taylor is why I learned to play bass.
A Duran Duran fan since the eighties, I suppose.
Yup
@@sergiosaunier Yes. Since grade 6.
@@maggpiprime954 A very good reason to learn to play bass, if I may add. As for myself, even though I’ve been a fan of the band since their first album and have loved John’s bass lines accross the band’s career, my reason ended up being listening to Geddy Lee from Rush. All in all, two of my favourite bands and bass players.
@maggPi Prime, me too.✌️
This is a privilege to experience. Congratulations to John; not surprised that Rio was an inspiration ❤🔥🎸
Always love John's enthusiasm and his gracious manners to everyone he talks with about music. Cheers!
I love seeing John in this interview, he's such an amazing bass player. Theres no hidden agenda with him, he's a great guy, not full of himself but so willing to contribute, and he knows his stuff, that confidence comes through so strong. From the 80's John, Lemmy and Chris squier....John put a lot into our our genre, thx m8.
I'm not surprised. We bass players are known to be a level headed bunch.
Very underrated Bass player. I think he is amazing and I learned how to play, way back in the '80s, by listening to and playing along with Duran Duran over and over again. Great bass, I want one.
He's underrated to novices & not by those who play.
UNDERRATED! UNDERRATED!!! IM A MINDLESS DOLT!! UNDERRATED!!! SQUACK SQUACK!!! UNDERRATED!!! I HAVE NO ORIGINAL THOUGHTS!!! UNDERRATED!!! POLLY WANTS A CRACKER!!! UNDERRATED!! SHAVE MY COAT IMA SHEEP!!! UNDERRATED!!!!
@@NO_THEYRE_NOT_UNDERRATED Yawn
Sure!!
He sure can play it too. He's a badass on the bass.
Jt the Bass God!
He is a great player. Very melodic and in your face. Duran Duran is very bass guitar driven band IMHO.
Yeees!!
Nothing beats John's aria- pro 2 !
I wish we could have heard John play all of Rio
LOVE JOHN'S ICONIC SYNCOPATED RUNS!!!
he's the reason I decided to play bass during my formative years
This just might be the bass that gets my into the world of Fan Frets, add in the Patrick Nagel inspired graphics and I'm IN!
love it when John says 'here's the 5 string but i'm buying the 4 string'.
An amazing iconic bass player!
His subtle but brilliant syncopation are legendary
such a beautiful bass I hope we get to hear it on tour🥰🥰
That looks magnificent! Gotta have the 4 strings. The design is so John Taylor. Definitely his signature bass.
I've never wrong for choose John Taylor as my favorite bassist since 1985.
John is the classest bass player in the World! Amen!
Play that beautiful bass John!!!!!
Hi Patricia where are you from?
He knows what works for him that's for sure.
What a great honor!
John's one of the sharpest bass players on the beat.
Great bass!! Hope to hear it on tour 😀👍
There's a reason us bassists love Duran Duran.
Great player, especially loved his Stone Love Bass series on RUclips he posted during Lockdown teaching everyone all his famous parts. I also liked the fact at the end he said "I'll have the 4 string" as so many these days go for 5 when they'll never use it.
It’s funny to say this, but maybe since I’ve been listening and dancing along for so long, I can’t help but say I feel so proud of JT for this really amazing moment! I feel like an old friend that’s like, “good for you buddy, right on!” It’s awesome to see this old school bass nerd get something so special and beautiful.
John is my favorite bassist
I've got a lot of respect for John Taylor - he's not a flashy player nor a virtuoso by any means, but what he does exceptionally well is play for the song. He connects the melody with the rhythm so, so brilliantly on every DD track I've heard. And, he seems like a great guy. Keep rockin, JT!
Can’t believe he’s nearly 63 , hasn’t changed since the 80s
Just saw them in concert 🤩
Just Stunning 🤩 Hope to see, and hear these Beautiful Bass Guitars live on tour this year, Congratulations JT on a fabulous collaboration 👏🏻❤️
The neve tech hasnt been bettered and im looking forward to using it.
My love for John Taylor as a teen is why I always take notice of good bass lines in songs
I was at NAMM yesterday and got the honor to try the demo model out. The bass sounds AMAZING…they had me plug into a simple set up with headphones so I could hear it full on. Got to also meet Sheldon along with the Dingwall staff there, wonderful people all around who are truly passionate about their basses. I hope many of my fellow Bassists will be able to get one. Great sound, tone with a lot of punch to it.
One of the most underrated bassists of all time. He's one of my fav bass players. Duran songs aren't easy to play, a fan ain't jumping on stage and playing with them
He's underrated to novices & not by those who play.

Hi Alicia where are you from?
@@JohnFoley7727gmailHelllo John, I'm a citizen of this Wonderful Planet Earth!
@@aliciawow9801 That’s great. I live in Oklahoma City but I’m currently working here in Syria. Where do you live in the states?
John’s a monster bassist, mostly overlooked but deserving much more recognition for his playing skills.
Damn I love John Taylor. This band, John and Andy in particular are the reason I'm a musician today.
We Love You John !
Sheldon- you are so deserving of this accolade. Getting John Taylor into your basses.
I'm fascinated to hear how the Neve Preamp will work in the context of your bass.
Importantly, we are all still waiting on the minimalist bridge as a retrofit for our D-Rocs, NGs, and Combustions
It looks like the initial runs of Taylor Dream basses in the cranberry Pearl are sold out, but it looks like a few additional colors are on tap.
I will always love Aria basses because of him. I think I have the world's largest collection of SB series basses. John, if you ever want to borrow one for old times' sake, let me know. Cheers
Love it Duran Duran forever 🤗🤗🥰🥰👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🎶🎶🤗🤗🌹
Daran Duran is my best band my fave songs are Come undone and Ordinary World
Have you listened to anything from them before or after 1993 or was that the only record you've ever listened to?
Go listen to the Rio album. Now. All of it. And everything else. :D
@@WessStewart My thoughts exactly.
One of my first songs being introduced to Western pop was the all songs from album Rio…1985 in Korea, to a 13year old. I am now revisiting one of my favorite band and had no idea how John’s bass lines have always been very pronounced in the songs. I can’t stop listening to ‘Proposition’ from Notorious album. I wish there was more video on this song with John playing fabulously. Love this man.
I would say 'Rio' and 'Notorious' are two of the best pop albums of all time, JT is a legend!
I just realized I have much better speakers, ha!
🎸🎸OOHHH YEAH!!!🎸🎸
PLAY THAT F*CKIN' BASS JOHN!!!
Sheldon, if you read this, you are such a truly kind and humble genius of your craft, pursuing tone passionately at a level that benefits so many. Nice work! And John, thanks for being a rock bass god!
I’m going to see you in Tampa Bay June 17!! I cannot wait!!!!!!!
John is an awesome bassist, and always cool!
was fascinated by the look of this bass when i first saw john playing a black model. would love love love to get one myself. The RIO edition sold out quick but I guess the artist side of me could modify a standard one to my personal liking. Rio is the first bass line I have learned... still working on mimicking john's syncopation style so not there yet. John is the main reason why i decided to finally add bass to my repertoire of instruments I play. Lots of people and musicians didn't pay attention to DD's overall musical talent back in the early days but I always did thanks to my first crush L.
Thanks for sharing these videos John!
Can’t wait to see what Duran Duran is doing tomorrow!
Great bassist and the spine of the duran sound.
Thanks John, one of my best bass players in the world from a long time. I loved all your bass guitars but this one is too great 🎸😊
*_her name is Rio Dream Bass and she slaps on the sand_* 🎸🎶
I've never wanted an instrument more, I want to display it as art
John is superior bassist, and just a nice, humble and good looking bloke...
🎉🎉🎉🎉 well done 👍👍 JT what a totally awesome amazing deserved honour to our best bass player on planet earth 🌎🌍 well done John Taylor wow wow wow 🥰 you should be over the moon about this epic awesome 👌👍 honour brilliant wow wow wow I'm so so so happy for JT 🎉🎉🎉
Oh, now that is a bass I want want want!!! And they’re right - Neve have never been bettered. Their sound and understanding of sound is hands-down the best.
I’d better start saving… (ps: John, it’s all your fault I started playing bass to begin with 😝)
There are definitely a lot of us around that started playing bass because of John. Because of him, I think I have the world's largest Aria bass guitar collection.
@@Pete_R63 They are absolutely wonderful basses, too. I hope you have a big cellar for them all!
I went to the 02 London concert two weeks ago, 37 years after seeing Duran Duran for the first time at Wembley arena. The audience was mostly around the band's age but there was also a fair number of younger men. It soon became clear to me they were bass players as I was watching them play air guitar along with John.
John makes any bass sound and look good.
First I wanted an Aria Pro II
Then I wanted a Kubicki Factor 4…
What a piece of pure beauty ❤....
That is the way I see Aria Basses, particularly the SB series John used to play. I think of them as functional works of art. So many times I was sitting at my desk and I would just glance over and see one of my Arias in the stand and I'd stare and suddenly realize that I had a big grin on my face.
John is without a doubt one of the greats!!
Hey there Tracy, how are you?
A true bass legend, killer player
Too cool for school!!!
I met John back in 1995 at Sam Goody in Manhattan very nice guy
John Taylor is without doubt a very good bassist, with quite a few iconic bass lines . I can also understand his love of the Dingwall bass. I have used a Dingwall 5 string since 2010 and absolutely love it.
It's limited edition with only 82 up for grabs. These things will fly off the shelves. I had a Dingwall for a while and it was an amazing instrument. You know this will be incredible without even trying it.
I need John’s hairspray or gel. Seriously; can’t find any that hold my hair. Fantastic bass player!
For the avoidance of doubt, Rupert Neve made the first PA for Queen Elizabeth The Second. I don't think they were making PAs in the 1600s :))
That bass is so AWESOME!!!!
LOOKING GOOOOOD
monster Bass Player !
Nice to see Jon Gruden found a new career in musical instruments.
Oho, what guitar!! M m, adore!!
Now that’s a Dingwall bass I’d like to buy.
If it works for Mr. Taylor, it just might work for an old bassplaying fan-boy 😄. The Neve aspect sounds great too!
🖖
I was searching for my new bass and i seen Duran Duran on Austin City playing Rio....it sounded great and and after a long search for my new bass it arrived and i am floored! This bass is funky to play at first but ive gotten used to it enough that i am confident on the fret board but also the tone. i found one tone and thats what i stick with. I use an ampeng v4b with 6 ampeg 10's. just enough grundge and smooth punch. low end is powerful. Dingwall Combustion 5 srtring.
This bass is so pretty. 🙂💖
Excellent !
Groove Player🎶🎶
So amazing
So pretty! 😍
I love it I’m not surprised it sold out.❤️❤️❤️
Hello there Heidi, how are you?
Just stumbled onto Dingwall basses when theNAMM video hit my feed yesterday. I’m such a huge Duran Duran fan as well as respect the hell out of John Taylor, was surprised to see he left PV!!! Watched the video, and this one…now I see why!!! Absolutely stunning basses here all around!!! I’m a guitarist who occasionally plays bass, but this bass impressed me so much had to give credit where it’s due 😎👏🎸🔥
John is a tasty bass player, brilliant. That Dingwall has an amazing thickness to it's mids and low-mids.
O instrumento da minha vida o contra baixo pra sempre ❤❤❤
John is an inspiration for me to learn music
John Taylor es un genio indiscutido de los graves.
Tan bello!!!❤❤❤
That's a fine, fine looking bass!
This is some Harry Potter, Ollivanders Wand Shop stuff. Just magic! 😍
That black paint job looks excellent
I can’t wait to se them live on June 3rd!
Beautitul Sharp Sound!
Awesome! John is an amazing bass player! :) Looks like he's using GK now too? Very cool! - Brent, VT
🌠 Alright !
Awesome, very nice 👌 Play that bass John 🤘🏴🇦🇺
Hey
Looks and sounds like a beautiful piece. Wonder if he’ll use it in the upcoming tour.
I am almost positive that he did not design the first PA system for Queen Elizabeth the First--although I expect you could hide a bunch of lavalier mics in a ruff...?
Epic.
Hey there, is that really you on your profile photo? Wow!
Sheldon is the best! Great guy and master builder at every level.
