Really love your banksia project. Beautiful work as always. Youve inspired me to turn a BP I've had sitting in the shop for too long. Thanks for your videos. Can't wait for the next one. I very much appreciate how clean you keep your shop and how well you respect and care for your equipment. So many makers don't. I think that's an important part of true craftmanship. All the best, G
Thank you very much George. I actually spent majority of yesterday cleaning and doing tool maintenance. Cast iron surfaces all needed a good cleaning and fresh coat of wax. I agree some people underestimate the importance of tool maintenance. Not only does it significantly lengthen the life of your tools, but greatly contributes to their safety when being used. Thanks for watching. I hope you have a great day. And good luck with the BP!! Scott
Despite decades of travel, I had never heard of a banksia seed pod. Quite certain I've seen them, but this was an amazing creation. The textures beneath the resin and the colors made for two brilliant candle sticks. Your work had me glued to my screen. Am still amazed at the beauty you created. This was truly a phenomenal project and video. Thank you for sharing.
Love Banksia trees, the timber is great to work with, but what you've done with the pods is just stunning, reckon your missus will be putting on candle light suppers every night for at east a month. Cheers
Really nice Scott. I'm a new turner & I've 2 large & 2 really large banksia nuts & had no idea what to do with them. This is inspiring & has given me good ideas. Thanks mate. 👍🏴
Beautifully done! Very elegant design. Think I might give those a try but for my design after the resin is cured I’m thinking of hollowing them out and putting a small led tea light inside so the light shines through the holes in the banksia. 😊
Love the Aussie Banksia pods & l thought salt & pepper shakers at first, but u made candle holders, turned out great & I'm pleased u removed most of the green resin & let the wood shine 😀
………the flower of the beautiful Banksia Integrifolia, which grows abundantly here. It’s my fave tree. In my garden, used to have a little frilly lizard sunbake on a branch. I always gave him some minced meat, which he enjoyed. He loved having his head, & back gently stroked. He came to that tree for years’………🇦🇺
Stunning. I want them, but thats not going to happen. So i guess I’ll just have to make some myself with the banksia pods I’ve been wondering what to do with.
That came out stunning man, nice work! My wife and I were attempting to figure out what you were making along the way w/o reading the description first... either a lamp base, vase, or candle holder :)
Thanks! This was a fun one. I’m 100% positive you are going to really like the tools. Looking forward to hearing what you think after you get a chance to use them. Scott
Really nice work and I'm stating for the record that this is good music...but it raises a question for me. I'm 60 and was just wondering am I the only one who listens to AC/DC, hair metal and Iron Maiden while I'm working in the shop?
Great work. I know your wife is very happy. I'll have to try this. Have you ever made one of these where you inserted an LED remote control tea light in the base? I think it would look great.
Whew, that is a fine pair of results. Pristine work. I might've liked to see more detail in the form, but certainly not to hide your resin work. That UV resin finish looks very promising.
Stunning! I have tried to used a cardboard tube but it would not peel off easily. Did you you line inside of cardboard or treat it in a way so resin would not adhere? Thank you.
Another great video! A few questions: 1. I looked on the website for the deep pour epoxy you use and it appears the instructions are more for table top pours. How long of an open time? How long do you keep it in the pressure pot? 2. Regarding the Clean Armor UV resin - did you get that nice coat in one go? No trouble with air bubbles? 3. I know you often use tubes that are cement molds, is that what this is?
The deep poor epoxy has an 80 minute working time. I leave true pieces in the pot for at least 72 hours. This is only the second time I’ve used the clean armor so I’m still figuring it out, but I seem to get best results with a foam applicator. Applying 3 coats. Wet sanding with 1k grit before 3rd coat. I used cardboard shipping tubes lined with strips of packing tape for the mold in this video. Thanks for watching. And as always hope you have a wonderful day! Scott
The things you make in your hobby are outstanding! Have you made any lamp foots? (excuse my English). One with a yellow closer to orange resin would really glow. It’s just a suggestion.
This had my trypophobia pinging!! Not like the one where bunches of little tiny tadpoles popping out of myriad holes in the momma frogs back, but yeah..
I purchased the steady rest on amazon. It really isn’t anything special. I’m planning on getting a new lathe soon and will be making a new one. I found the banksia pods online from Rockler. Thanks for watching. Hope you have a great day!
Well I just learnt something new. Trypophobia is a fear of holes ( like or similar to this ) no cure except desensitisation. So that means being shown numerous things with holes. Glad I’m not bothered. Stunning candle holders. Jealous of the wife…
What a great way to show the uniqueness of the banksia pods.

Nice! I think your wife is very happy with these two.
OMG! Are those stunning or what! Lucky Lady! I kinda shuddered when you said green w/black, man how beautiful it was!
trypophobia is strong with this one 😵
I said the same thing! I don't even have trypophobia and I squirmed
I have one and cant watch this..
That's bad 😅
Yes. 🙌😬
@@toxicityisforalesson that means you have it 😅
When you use bright colors to fill in the pits in the Banksia pod, it looks like something out of science fiction. 😎
Those came out BEAUTIFULLY
Thank you!

Thank you for the kind words. They are much appreciated. Thanks for watching. I hope you have a wonderful day.
Scott.
Those are absolutely beautiful! Wish I had a pair myself, Lucky lady.
Those are probably the nicest pieces I have seen made with Banksia pods. Beautiful.
Thank you very much!
These are just tremendous! I mean WOW! THANK YOU for sharing!
Awesome, banksia wood itself would be interesting for base and top.
The candle looks so luxurious, thanks
Mrs. S&L is a lucky lady xxx😊
Great way to use banksia pods - love our Aussie natives!
I just found your channel and I'm amazed.... Beautiful work
Thank you so much!
One of the best "outcomes" I've seen!

David I'm sure your wife loved them they are amazing I guess just like your wife like you said......Larry USA

Wow, absolutely stunning pieces❣️😍💚 Your wife must love them for sure!
I really like the way those turned out. Sibafu green is great! Those seed pods look kinda "ALIEN" like, great job bud!
Thanks Barry. Really appreciate the encouragement and positive vibes you have always sent my way. Have a great day sir.

Very nicely done, stay safe.

Good luck! Hope they come out great. Have a good day!

At first I thought it was some sort of underwater material. Almost looks like something from another planet! Turned out really cool.
Beautifully done! Very elegant design. Think I might give those a try but for my design after the resin is cured I’m thinking of hollowing them out and putting a small led tea light inside so the light shines through the holes in the banksia. 😊
That could be very interesting! I think it is a great idea. Best of luck. Thanks for watching.

Nice, finished product looks like something I’d see in a high end home goods store.
О Господи, как же это красиво! Это релакс смотреть, как Вы превращается простые природные материалы в Шедевры!
Gorgeous brother, your work is always top notch … peace on the plane
So beautiful!! And that finish is extraordinary!!!

Those banksia pods turned out great, hope the fluff didn't get too uncomfortable 😀
Thanks Glenn!

Beautiful work. Great job.

Fantastic Ive been wondering what to do with my pod
Lucky girl ❤❤❤
I can't be the only one who saw the thumbnail and video title and then my mind went immediately to the gutter... right?
Banksia 😮😮😮 beautiful!
Thanks Tom!
Really Awsome
Wow, she saw that before he made it.
Those are really unique and beautiful 😃
Thank you!
@@squareandlevel Your welcome ☺
Wow! That is gorgeous! Thank for bringing the music back😊
You are the only woodturning channel I watch because of the music. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much 😀

Beautiful. By the thumb nail I thought it was a tatted arm😂

I also just bought a set of the scrapers from Simple finally. Thanks again for the rec!

Love those seed pods!

Thank you too!
AWESOME dude
Thanks 😁
I completely agree
They are lovely. 😊 🇦🇺🇦🇺

Video came up in suggestions; This guy would look good in a western film or as a character in RDR2.
Damn, those are nice.
WOW 👍👌😊
WOW
Sweet mate.. Dunno if I'd go with the green tho, I'm more of an electric blue kinda guy... Neat project all the same.
I totally agree. These were made for my wife whose favorite color is green so…… thanks for watching. Hope you have a great day.

Interesting techniques. I haven't seen anyone else doing a vacuum and a pressure treatment on the resin or using UV cure for finish coat.
Stunning! I have tried to used a cardboard tube but it would not peel off easily. Did you you line inside of cardboard or treat it in a way so resin would not adhere? Thank you.
I lined the inside of the tubes with strips of packing tape. Thanks for watching. Hope you have a great day.

I'm assuming using all these neat seed pods would not be possible without the decompression chamber? Gorgeous work!

Not yet! But thanks for the idea! Hope you have a wonderful day.

OMG it's Negan 😂❤
Very cool. They look amazing. I wonder if you could use the banksia pods for pepper mills. They seem big enough. Great job!
I’m sure you could make a pepper mill if you could get a large enough one. As always thanks for watching!

No, sorry. I do not offer classes. I honestly feel I still have a lot to learn myself. Thank you for watching!

I have to ask. What was the finish you used at the end with a brush. That is very nice.
Highly skilled, but the material is terrifying.😂
I thought that the thumbnail was a tattooed arm.
Я тоже так подумала! 😊😅
😂😂😂😂 wow
My brain almost melted from the trypophobia just looking at the thumbnail.
