Chris Perez was an enigma to me prior to reading, To Selena With Love.
Now that I've finished it, he continues to be a mystery to me, but in a very different way.
He doesn't share much about himself in the book. Instead, he talks about Selena, her accomplishments, the accomplishments of the band, and how they treated him - briefly.
He is quite accomplished and quite a talent, but he scarcely talks about his own accomplishments.
To Selena With Love is dedicated to the fan of Selena and as such, I think you'll love this book if that is all you're looking for because we get to learn about Selena from an intimate source - her supportive husband, Chris Perez.
In this video, I share my thoughts on the book, a number of lovely photos of Selena, and three paper heart designs.
These paper heart earrings are inspired by a set of Selena's own heart earrings. They look nothing like the original source, but they are quite fun none-the-less.

Just completed this book yesterday! It was a fabulous read. Can’t help but be impressed with the character of this man. Very well done. The two of them are truly beautiful people. It makes one believe in soul mates for sure!

Chris has always appeared to me to be a gentle soul. Reading his book solidified that point for me.
I do believe they were soulmates...I also believe one can have more than one soulmate in their lifetime. I truly hope he finds a second as Selena left him & us too soon.

These were all so dainty! Trying to make such delicate creations out of paper must be frustrating at times, but you do it so well, and your creations are always so evocative and delightful!
The quote and discussion you opened the video with--- wow, that hits closer than one would like, sadly so really. I wish you hadn't had your own version of that as well. As isolating as it is, their are some things I wouldn't want others to experience just to have that in common or know it wasn't just me. (Massive hugs to you here)
I had forgotten about Chris winning the Grammy! I can't quite place it but I remember some of the commentary around it. I feel like it may have been one of the big years for 'Latin music' generally, maybe one of the years with Ricky Martin, J-Lo, Shakira, (Santana??) Where him getting that Grammy was being tied back around to what Selena had been doing in the early/mid 90s and what may have happened sooner if she hadn't been murdered but maybe it was years after... I really should just go look it up! I just remember some of the narrative around him being really touching at the time.
Anyways, liked the dangle earrings especially, but you set yourself an almighty task after the triumph that was those last red heart ones you made previously!

Oh Annie...I'm so-so sorry that we share such a terrible thing in common...I know it happens quite often...I wish it weren't as prevalent. Sending you so much love - because you're an amazing human.
As always, you're dead on. I knew he made music - but I didn't realize that he had been part of that time frame where Latin music was having a moment.
The song that won him a Grammy was tied back Selena given that she was the subject matter of the song. Other than reading this book by him, I have yet to really dig deeper into his history or the reasoning for his winning. He named off some of the artists he was up against, and I'm ashamed to admit that I knew and loved most of the music from the other artists but not his. Until now, of course.
I'm so glad you loved my creations here. I agree with you. These have a hard time holding their own next to the earrings I created a few weeks ago. They are precious though. I've been waring them around and have received so many compliments. I think it has a lot to do with the words within the design. Paper jewelry is really special to me, hence I am determined to make something work in the future. If only for my little heart to enjoy and take pride in wearing as I know it's not for everyone.
I hope you've been well and enjoying 2021! It's been a rough start but I have high hopes that it'll get a lot better in the near future.

I sent it towards the end of January. I was beginning to think that I hadn't included enough postage. In 2018 I purchased forever international stamps with the hope that I wouldn't have to worry about price increases as ours seems to increase frequently, what seems like every few months.
