Before Diego Rivera, Alejandro Gomez Arias captured Frida Kahlo's heart.
Because I am working on a Frida Kahlo inspired jewelry collection, learning about her story and the events that shaped her world view have become of importance in my world.
In this video, I share a brief overview from a few chapters from Hayden Herrera's book Frida: A Biography of Frida Kahlo (amzn.to/36RdYx5).
These chapters focus primarily on Frida's adolescence (1922-1925) - before her accident.
I also share three new earring designs inspired by Frida.
    Which is your favorite!?

Kaleidoscopes & Polka Dots is a handmade vintage-inspired jewelry company based out of Las Vegas, Nevada, owned and operated by yours truly, Jessica Gibson.
My handmade jewelry is designed with an appreciation for art, history, and elegance, generally focusing on anything from the 1920s through the 1950s.
My family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, from Chihuahua, Mexico, when I was 5 years old. Since then, we have proudly called Las Vegas, Nevada, home.
Following my high school graduation, I joined the US Army Reserves, which helped me graduate from UNLV with a finance degree.
Given my background, I can't help but infuse my handmade creations with a bit of a Mexican-American flair, an appreciation for U.S. history, and meticulous attention to detail.
As an animal lover, I support The Animal Foundation (bit.ly/2TK7WHY), and as a former soldier, I proudly support The Wounded Warrior Project (bit.ly/3ejvrBb). [NOT AFFILIATED]
While I love vintage fashion, I do not believe in vintage values. [To learn more about this movement, click here: www.vfnvv.com/]

Nobody's perfect. Hard fact. However, everyone has admirable qualities to aspire to and learn from.
Going into this project, where I learn about Frida and design a unique jewelry collection of my own, I knew I'd come away with a different perspective about this woman.
While I'm only at episode 2, my prediction has rang true and in certain ways I can't help but admire her more.
Was there something in this episode that especially piqued your interest? Something you previously never heard of before?

@@JessicaGonzalezGibson Back in January (or February) of this year, my older sister took my younger sister and me to see the “Immersive Frida” show in Dallas for our birthdays! To my surprise, she had my son (who lives in Austin, Tx) come to the show, too. I had NO idea he was coming! He sat a few feet from me and made a comment on one of the Frida videos. Obviously, I knew that voice and I went nuts with surprise and happiness when I saw him!!! Both my sisters were in on the ‘ambush’!!!!! It was the very BEST this 71yr old mama has ever had!!!! I just wanted to share that beautiful memory with you!!! 🥰

Oh my goodness!! What a wonderful memory! I love that so much! Now you'll forever remember that memory and attribute it to your visit to the "Immersive Frida" experience. Happy Holidays!!
