    Good informative video, what about a video on how you pipe in a pump and where you place the pipes, i know you have this type of thing in other vidoe's, but not on detail on how or why.

    I use this type of PVCU pipework/fittings in industrial applications, pressurised chemical dosing systems etc. It's very robust and reliable given its glued together properly. It's mandatory for industrial systems that the pipe is chamfered, both parts to be glued are roughed up with emery cloth and then etched & cleaned with a solvent cleaner, prior to being glued. When done like that they chemically fuse and NEVER leak.
    Given that pond applications are low pressure you probably get away with just glueing, if you ever find any leaks it may be worth also trying the other steps 👍

    • @ThePondAdvisor
      @ThePondAdvisor  4 года назад +2

      Stu22 yes it’s not as high pressure, the red hot glue is fine with or without being roughed up or fine with out a primer, some people go the extra mile, like I did in the early days. Pressurised chemical dosing is a totally different application (totally depends on the chemicals) I would in most cases recommend the use of a higher grade PVC again with the mentioned extra precautions. Not all pond and water feature applications are low pressure (we are lucky as very few chemicals are needed to be taken into consideration). 👍🏻

    Thanks for the video. I have been using JG push fit stuff for my small project and it's not amazing tbh. Defiantly going to use plastic weld / glue in the future.

    Mark, thank you again for an interesting video. I live in Germany and when I moved in to our house we inherited a pond. I’ve been searching for a long time for a site such as yours which breaks down the process perfectly.. our pond is a glass fibre/plastic construction approx 8+ thousand Ltres. There are three major problems/updates I wish to do. 1. It leaks from one of the sides loosing about 4 inches before it levels out. 2. The surround is above ground pave slabs which are an eyesore and trip hazard. 3. We want to install a small waterfall, of which your site has given me inspiration.
    The first issue to tackle will be the leak, could you suggest please, what would be the best fault finding process. (Noting we have goldfish plus newts etc) based on that would there be a safe dye or plain and simple digging sample holes?
    Many thanks in advance
    Ron

      finding the hole is like finding a needle in a hay stack, if you're lucky you can find it, patching it is the next task glass fibre or plastic are two different methods.

    Hi Mark, this is so informative thank you. I have a question- why can’t we just glue regular black hose? I don’t mean the bumpy corrugated type, but the smoother heavy duty type.
    Thankyou!

    Hi Mark really good video. I don't keep Koi and more into fancy goldfish so only do things on a smaller scale. But follow some of your excellent advice I want to upgrade the pipework to my pond. I have a 28mm flexible pipe coming from the submersible pump and I want to connect 32mm to the flexible hose how can this be done, I then want to put a on off valve on the 32mm pipe can this be done. Or would the it be better to do the whole thing in 22mm overflow pipe?

    Hi. Great video! I'll be adding a home made 30l blue barrel mechanical filter on the feed line going up to my bakki shower head. The hose on the system is 55mm interior diameter and 3mm thick.
    I'll be cutting the hose and installing the barrel. I'll need 2 elbows 2 quick disconnect unions for ease of cleaning and two and bulkhead fittings to convert the barrel. Will your unions connect to the bulkhead fittings? What other parts needed apart from glue and tools? Thanks.

    • @ThePondAdvisor
      @ThePondAdvisor  3 года назад +1

      I am no 100% sure, what fittings do you currently have?

    • @divitoman
      @divitoman 3 года назад +1

      I dont have any. I'll be cutting a section of pipe out the length between the entry and exit of the barrel. So I think I need 2 90° elbows, to make the turn into the filter, disconnect unions and bulkhead fittings for the barrel and any other parts to go on the entry and exit line to make it work. Thanks

    Hello,
    I was wondering about the piping during wintertime in areas where ground freezes. Is it supposed to be all emptied out or can the piping be dug deep enough for the freezing zone not to reach it? Thanks!

    • @ThePondAdvisor
      @ThePondAdvisor  3 года назад +1

      Moving water will freeze last, so if you have a deep enough water feature then you ok to run it. It your talking about a pond. It depends on the zone you live in. In the UK water in the ground will freeze if exposed, we are zone 7-8 however. If your in a colder zone then you may be better of turn of a pond and draining out the pipes as standing water will freeze and cause more problems.

      This is one of the reasons I prefer to glue my fittings as clip and clamps are just not up to the job!

  • @Goatcats
    @Goatcats 3 года назад +2

    How long after gluing pipes can you have water flowing back into koi pond? Do you rinse the pipes out once glue dries before letting water flow into koi pond?

    • @ThePondAdvisor
      @ThePondAdvisor  3 года назад +2

      Depends on how much work you have done, one join is fine (20 joints on a big complicated system, wait let the glue go off 24 hours), depending on if it’s better to wait or get the water flowing for an oxygen point of view.

    I like your videos but it seems like your trying to push aquascape products in the uk..... In my honest opinion it’ll never work here,A it’s a bit of a gimmick that British people won’t fall for,B you can buy all them products or use similar type products that are much cheaper like soak away blocks etc and C the the pumps they use are no better than oase etc but are more expensive,don’t mean to be negative but it seems like you’ve put all your eggs in one basket!

    • @creativecascades1328
      @creativecascades1328 4 года назад +3

      I can tell you as a pond builder, Aquascape products work very well and are usually easier to work with. Oase pumps are usually awkward to place in vaults as the exit point is not on top (as far as I recall)

    • @ThePondAdvisor
      @ThePondAdvisor  4 года назад +4

      Wayne Broughton been using the wrong eggs for 25 year so I know a thing or two about what is available. You are being negative your comment is on an non aquascape product video?
      I understand you can find cheaper copy cat products but the quality is not suitable for a professional, apples and oranges.
      Yes I promote the aquascape products because I have been using them for since 2013 and nothing touches them in the UK or Europe.
      Totally understand you might not like the price that’s ok, it’s not designed for everyone. Most products are not DIY grade, my basket is full and I am happy not having to shop around.

      Creative Cascades keeping it simple, is the key. use products designed to fit together. Plus no gadgets and whistles that will break after 5-10 years and your stuck replacing the parts. We can keep it as simple as we wish. Working with Mother Nature not against her.

      I have to agree with Wayne on this one, the AquaScape brand is USA & adapting it to meet UK expectations, costs and requirements is working against the grain. We are never gonna pay £10k for ponds, unless we have a house worth £1m.

  • @kophotography895
    @kophotography895 4 года назад

    My comments are based on locations in South Coast of UK. Sorry I do not agree with the use of pressure pipe (in all cases) for the average water fall or low value ponds less than 2000 gallon (UK) as certain domestic pipes are rated to pressures required & you can address environmental factors allow for both underground & overground use, for info I would look at DIN tables, it's all about the thickness of the wall & materials used. Grey pressure pipe is total overkill for 90+% of jobs, it is a trades approach to confusing customers & getting them into situations that are not easy to get out of for most not savi people (ie like Apple Eco System). I have ponds with over 2k gallons which have been running for decades on domestic pipe, I would not use ribbed Flexi hose though as that only lasts for 2-3 years. Good luck folks

    • @ThePondAdvisor
      @ThePondAdvisor  4 года назад +3

      thanks for your time, you might be building ponds at 90+% under 2000 gals. It's ok, if you re happy with domestic pipe it ok. I have found it not to be the case, or are you going on domestic ponds being 90% of what we have in the UK. This is NOT a DIY video, glad you do agree that flexi hose lasts 2-3 years.

    • @creativecascades1328

      Us pond builders have to factor for many things such as hose / pipe being strong enough to have heavy rocks sitting a-top it, frost effects, flexibility etc.
