    Hi Phil 👋🏼 you have everything all mapped out, possibly more thinking than really needed but "do it once do it right" 😀
    I have watched all through your build and its impressive 👏🏼
    I installed the same skimmer as you on our pond but used 4" pipework instead of 2" as its a gravity feed the larger diameter pipework is much better for flowrate. The pond side pipework is not glued so only friction fit as its not necessary.
    I also put a valve to adjust the flow to suit our requirements.
    The main reason was to add extra water flow through the drum to the bakki shower. (You still have time to core drill a 4" hole through the pond wall).
    The other thing is pond returns, how many and where. I have found its not really necessary to have returns in all corners and to prove this to myself i only have two and they are one above the other in one corner creating flow that achieves everything you need to remove all waste. The shower is a 4" underwater return about 6" below the waters surface and directly below that is a 2" pumped return from the moving bed chamber.
    I'm looking forward to seeing the progress Phil 👍🏼

    • @TelfordKoiPond
      @TelfordKoiPond  3 года назад +4

      Evening Tom. Excellent suggestions and will certainly give some more thought to the 4” pipe work for the skimmer. Like what you are saying about the returns, has put my mind at rest about not having returns on every corner. Will probably look to use the skimmer on a separate pump to a bakki shower at a later date ....still looking at options. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to provide such detailed suggestions, many thanks👍🐟🈲😊

    Great video - I would recommend an in-wall skimmer, then run this gravity fed on 3” or 4” pipe to the drum - I run this system and it’s great. If you plan to run the in-pond skimmer gravity fed to the drum I’d be concerned that there wouldn’t be enough gravity flow given the drop in pipe size - most of the gravity pull would go to the bottom drain. My other recommendation would be an electronic in-line flow meter for your return - expensive, but takes away all of the guessing on turnover/flow rates. All the best!

Mine is running 4” all the way into my drum, but it’s still the same skimmer 👍🏻. May not look quite as streamline as the in wall ones, but they wouldn’t work on my curved pond. Could i just add that the way you have done your pipe work is that you can play with the flow to your bottom return with your ball valve but not the top as you will get more flow from the top what you need to do is t the pipe before both valves as you will want a good return at the bottom to push everything down the drain hope this makes sense?

    • @TelfordKoiPond
      @TelfordKoiPond  3 года назад +3

      Hi Mark. I spoke to the guy in the shop at length discussing my pond size, pipe work, no. Of returns, what I would be covering it with, what temp I wanted to maintain (15 deg), etc. And he said that although the 9kw was rated for 2000 gallons, it would take longer to get up to temp and would be on for longer during the winter months. If you watch Wrighty’s videos you’ll also see that he actually bought the 9kw and although he is happy with it, he has said that in hindsight he would have bought the 12kw model. Guess it’s down to personal needs but I wanted to over-engineer the heating as we have been down to minus 12 in Shropshire over the last few winters. Hope this answers your question. 👍🐟🈲😊

    Nice to see someone else using an Oase Gravity Skimmer. Bought one for my pond upgrade this year, but was going to go 4 inch plastic reducer to 3 inch, then through the side of the pond, then reduce again to 2 inch to pump over our Bakki Shower. Interesting you're using a 4"->2" rubber reducer in the pond. What tape will you put round the metal clips?

    • @TelfordKoiPond
      @TelfordKoiPond  3 года назад +4

      Hello there. I’ll be putting electric tape around the soften the sharp edges and then putting cuts of thick rubber inner tube stretched over the tape (so like putting a 1” rubber band over the clips). This securely hold itself place as it’s stretched over the jubilee clip so doesn’t need anything else to hold it in place. Have used this method successfully on a lot of pond fittings and always works well. I’ll be sure to video it when it goes in properly. Thank you for watching👍🐟🈲😊

    • @TelfordKoiPond
      @TelfordKoiPond  3 года назад +2

      Hello Andy, from what you describe 1.5” will be more than sufficient (in my opinion of course). There would be nothing wrong with using 2” pipe but you always need to remember that the flow through the pipes (bottom drains and returns) needs to be strong enough to stop sediment settling in the pipes which means you could need an extremely strong flow in a pond of the size you’re building if you go with 2” . Re the bottom drain, if you are having 1 then I would go 4” but if you are having 2 I would seriously consider 2 x 3” drains. Hope this helps 👍🈲🐟😊

    • @TelfordKoiPond
      @TelfordKoiPond  2 года назад +3

      Hello Daniel👍. To drill the holes I used a 60mm diamond tipped core drill. Basically a long 60mm diameter drill similar to the ones you use for wood but for concrete. They fit into a normal drill but be warned, it took me 40 minutes to an hour to drill each the 4 holes for my return pipes. It’s really hard work and very noisy. You can buy them on eBay or Amazon or you can hire a professional core drill and drill from most tool hire shops and apparently they do the job in half the time. If you haven’t built your blockwork yet you are better cutting the blocks to leave a gap where you want the returns (I did this for my filter house returns) and then backfilling the gap once your pipe is in position👍😊. I hope this helps👍🐟🈲😊

Just putting a flow meter in the 2 outlets (just holding it there and not fixing it in) , using a18,000 lph pump at 50% (9000 lph) the top outlet was measuring 4500 lph and the bottom was measuring 3500 lph. I would definitely recommend solvent welding a proprietary T piece as those 90 degree rubber boot really reduce the flow because of their smaller diameter. Hope this helps👍😊

      As you will have seen on my video I’ve solvent welded pressure pipe T’s and 90’s so the flow rates I gave you are with a fully solvent welded rigid pipe set up. You’ll have noticed the I have a ball valve between the top return and lower return so that I can shut off the lower return in winter if I want to👍😊

    How do you secure the pipes sticking out the block so they don’t move

    • @TelfordKoiPond
      @TelfordKoiPond  10 месяцев назад +1

      Once you put the pipe through I used mortar to secure it by push in a bit in the hole at a time with an old screwdriver. Once you’ve put a decent amount on then simply fill the outside bits with mastic. Solid job😊👍

    • @TelfordKoiPond

      To be clear, by hole I meant the gap between the drilled hole and the outside of the pipe👍😊

    whats your opinion on pipe work /waste pipe vs pvc pressure vs using rubber boots ?

    • @TelfordKoiPond
      @TelfordKoiPond  5 месяцев назад +1

      Evening🖐. I’ve had too many failures with waste pipe splitting to ever use it as primary piping in a pond set up. People may say it’s just as good but in my opinion it isn’t and I would always use pressure pipe throughout. Bottom line is that yes, pressure pipe is more expensive but it’s much, much stronger, solvent welds better and doesn’t deform when using rubber boots😊👍. In terms of using rubber fittings, I have no problem with them at all. I will always hard weld where I can but where I need to be able to disassemble or add bits at a later date, they are great. Only think I would suggest is doubling up on the jubilee clips (as you will see in my videos). Again, this is just my opinion but I hope this helps😊👍

    • @yorkshirekoi2246
      @yorkshirekoi2246 5 месяцев назад

      @@TelfordKoiPond thanks I had a 90 degree elbow waste pipe break off with a hosetail fitted believe it or not the pvc flexi pipe was stronger. I get what your saying pressure pipe is very strong. another youtuber says pressure pipe is way over kill but perhaps your right its much stronger as such will last longer just debating using gate valves over ball valves.

    • @TelfordKoiPond
      @TelfordKoiPond  5 месяцев назад +1

      @@yorkshirekoi2246 definitely ball valves. Again, more expensive but slide valves constantly fail and you will be forever replacing rubber seals……..in my opinion😊👍
