I watch several auto test channels, but I love the fact that you review the cars you actually drive every day. I just love the styling of the Stelvio and the fact it's a real SPORT Ute and plan to buy one in the next year to replace my beloved '13 Acura RDX. Great job, I am subbed.
thanks that is the best way to report back to potential buyers and other owners is to live with them, work on them and give actual feedback good and bad. thanks for watching lots of Alfa content on this channel.
I am in China. I sold my 2017giulia veloce last week. replacement is a second hand 2020stelvio with some optional configurations. and I have been smiling for a week.
Good choice! I loved my QV except the stress outweighed the pleasure after 4.5 years and i had to move on for the time being, still might buy another one day we will see
Congrats on the new purchase, Phil! I live in Denver and worked with Doug Friedman back in 2019 when I bought my brand new, "perfect spec" Stelvio Quadrifoglio from him sight unseen for a darn good price. Like you said, he made the whole process SUPER easy. . .including shipping to Denver. To this day, I, too, get his old school post cards and love 'em. He and the Strongsville Team are one of the best Alfa dealerships in the country. . .and they're happy to work with folks outside of Ohio!
Very cool and thanks for sharing your experience with the Strongville team. Now don't we all wish every Alfa dealer was as accomodating and good as them then the brand would be growing not shrinking.
I'll have to check out that dealership. I' in Ohio and currently looking for my first SUV - deciding between the Stelvio, Macan and X3 M40i. The Stelvio does scare me a bit considering Alfa's old reputation for being slightly unreliable. Well maybe more than just "slightly". :)
Congrats on the new Stelvio Veloce! If only Alfa used that touchscreen and infotainment system from the beginning I think it would of been more successful selling it to the public.
i agree but i honestly feel where Alfa falls on it's face is marketing and dealer network or as i say lack off all around this is what hurts the brand so much and dealers are going out of business all over now because of it
Excellent review, thanks. We too got a second Stelvio. Love the car. We also agree, Alfa Romeo of Stringsville, Ohio is terrific dealer. Bought my 2019 Giulia QV from them.
They look very nice indeed, but on the other hand they've lost part of the aggressive look the current one has. I'm still undecided to which look I prefer. :)
I just bought same car, including the red seats, but it has the black larger wheels. I prefer the look of the wheels you have in this video because I like how they look with the white. I traded in 2018 White Ti Sport that had the circle wheels. You totally nailed describing the differences between the models. I keep going back and forth on the black wheels, the ride on this model was smoother and I kept attributing it to the larger wheel, but after listening to this sounds like it was due to changes in the model. How hard is it so swap the wheels?
Hi thanks for posting. I was considering getting those 21 wheels but the reason I decided against those black larger wheels is tire selection. If you get a blow out you will never find that tire at any local tire repair center anywhere so your car will be down for a while waiting for the repair. the 20 tires are much easier to get. You can go on Ebay and find some wheels like mine and buy those and swap and then sell your 21 on Ebay.
So for my graduation gift to myself I’m getting an Alfa Romeo Stelvio, is it smart to get a car like this? How reliable is it, is it expensive to maintain?
I thought you were getting a Stelvio Quad! 😕 Oh well...the Veloce is nice! I got my 2018 Stelvio Quad from Strongsville as well...good folks working there. Fastest car purchase ever for me! I've got 95k of mostly highway miles on mine and counting. Great road trip car! The cargo space is better than folks actually realize. Much better than the Macan my wife drives for sure. Happy motoring!
The dual pane windows stopped a car break-in for me once! At least on the '21 Stelvio I think there was also a piece of laminate and while the outside glass had a little crack from the glass breaker, the inside pane had nothing. There should be a little logo on the glass with a hammer and a strike through it (anti-shatter), and an ear with a strike through it (meaning the cabin quiet). That logo is on every glass even the back and the sunroof
@@autofanaticcars right - but also more expensive to replace ~$700 to replace the drivers side door, whereas the single pane was around $300. Insurance covered too, just had to fork over the deductible
My 2020 Stelvio Ti Sport has double pane front side windows and laminated windshield. This is not a new feature. May be an option in earlier years, but my 2020 has it....also believe the steering wheel has been leather since the beginning....
Love the new car!! I’ve got a 2021 ti sport white red int. Love it. Love watching everything you do. Now that you have a white car, any good ways to clean the iron rust off the car?
Love this spec!! I think it’s a perfect balance of luxury and sport.. and honestly the analog gages are superior imo true a testament to a sporty feel!! The only other suv I would consider is x340i with turbo 6 it’s a real beast but 65k too plus the mrs doest need all that performance..
I honestly never loved the look of any BWW SUV I always loved their other models but never the SUV the Stelvio is just pretty. I absolute love the Ferrari SUV
@@autofanaticcars I suspect BMW is one of the few other brands that also make some effort in their SUVs to sit the engine behind the front axle for the sake of dynamic balance, but the X3 with the 2.0l engine feels (and is) heavier and not as sporty by comparison with the Stelvio. The Ferrari SUV is probably the last pure n/a V12. But to be honest, I didn't mind at all if they've added a turbo or two for even more power and torque.
Love the new Stelvio in Alfa white with the red interior. Wished Alfa used the rosa (red) stitching to accent the leather window panels, dashboard, steering wheel and shifter instead of the white to complete the look. And yes, I wondered if you were planning on switching out the battery soon, which you mentioned. Please share your mods like the wheel skirts, etc. Looking forward to more great Alfa content.
For some odd reason Alfa canceled red stitching in 2021 no idea why but they also canceled all the red accents on the QV models for the USA but not in Europe. Company still run by a bunch of fools if you ask me. We actually like not having the contrast red stitch on the new Stelvio is gives the interior a more cleaner appearance and once you live with it a few days it is really nice not having too much red.
Hi just started watching your videos and really enjoying your content. I baught a 2019 stelvio qv at auction a few weeks ago with a blown engine and have sent it off to get a 22 engine installed . I know I’m pretty much loosing money on this deal but curious on your thoughts on keeping it or is there a big difference in the 2020 up? I also have a veloce giulia 2.0 2023 and been doing some mods and love the car
Wow that's the same color Combo as my 2022 Giulia. Honestly I prefer how there's no red on the dash, too much red for me on the older models. I changed the chrome emblems out for the Black ones, looks nicer that way. I also had my car shipped from Strongsville Oh.
Hi Phil - Congrats on the new Stelvio! Curious - Why are you getting a new battery? I’ve been having battery issues with my 2021 QV and the dealer has tested it a couple times and says it’s fine after using an “Alfa Romeo” tester. Voltage reads between 12.2V - 12.4 volts even with a tender / charger. A good battery should read at least 13volts. Using a NOCO brand charger/tender which shows the battery only charging to 25% capacity. Car was in the shop for 4 months waiting for a part (Oct 31-Feb28. Part was unavailable due to supply chain). Service advisor said battery was disconnected during this time. The car did not start the day after I got the car back. I also had an instance of a low battery / no start in April of last year when the car was packed and I was heading for long roadtrip from the SF Bay Area to Seattle. Got a jump start the car. It went into “limp home” mode and was able to get to the dealer just before closing time on Friday. Techs were gone already and dealer gave me a loaner from a rental car which was extremely appreciated. Car was purchased new in November 2021 and build date was spring 2021. Bad battery? Charging system bad? Or did the Intelligent Battery System become stupid? Love the car! Your reviews and enthusiasm on the Auto Fanatic channel as well as Kevin Deal’s review on the Upscale Audio channel got me to switch from 43 years of BMWs. Cheers, Larry
Im going to do the new battery just as a precautionary measure. regarding your QV issues just spend the $300 on the Interstate battery yourself and forget wasting time with the dealer and their silly testers just do it and thank me later it may solve every issue your car has instantly. the OEM batteries SUCK in all Italian cars its been this way for 30+ years and never seems to change.
@@antoniozarrella3239 The battery issue was only on the first gen, from 2017/18 model onwards. Especially if they have the space saver wheel... as the battery was smaller to fit inside it. The 2020 (MY20) model onwards had no battery issues, as they came with bigger battery and no space saver.
Hello, Mr. Fanatic, thanks for your excellent reviews. I'm considering a '23 Stelvio. Very much enjoyed the test drive, felt a little down on power, but I presume you live in the upper rev ranges? And you drove your previous Stelvio that way with no issues? Thank you, subscribed.
do a sprint filter air filter and maybe a Racechip plug in for more power but around town it is fine the biggest complaint is the new car defaults to N mode at every start where as my 2019 would stay in Dynamic all the time. I wish there was a way to retain dynamic 100% because the throttle response in N is terrible and in fast situations can be nervous
My 'lane departure' setting applies some correction force on the wheel (if crossing lanes without the correspondent turning light), but it doesn't beep. It's configurable.
The side windows are now safety glass like the front windshield. Curious if the new Alfa’s are coming with AGM vs EFB battery? Alfa dealer here uses AGM as preferred replacement.😊
I was waiting for the review of your new Stelvio, and it's great as usual.. It's the exact Stelvio I want to get. I currently have the 2019 Stelvio Verde Green base model, but I love the white exterior and red interior Veloce. One question, can a bike hitch be put on this years model? My 2019 has a Curt hitch and I love it.
I agree that the 2022/2023 models exhibit a much higher build quality compared to the earlier cars..For some reason it feels slower and not as raw as my 2018 did even with the same mods..
yes the newer cars have different trans tuning and i think fuel injection i do recall my 21 QV feeling different out of the hole compared to my 18 but still great overall
You do love Alfa for sure. I have a '21 Sport Ti spec'ed almost identical to this except for the wheels. It's a looker. I installed the Conti DWS06+ over the Mich 4S, a better choice imo.
Curious how you know they changed the suspension geometry to remove the sharp steering that most people love about the car? I find nothing online about this change.
The lower control arms are different as is spindles and attach points and new steering rack. 2020 they did this on all models because sissys complained the steering was to fast and tires scrubbed in cold temps so ridiculous how US customers complain and they did this
Nice review...not so sure about the lack of red accents however on door cards and lower dash and center console. I have a 2020 Stelvio Ti Sport in Trofeo White with the Red seats and in your current version without the aforementioned accents, the seats look like they were stolen out of another model and inserted here. There is a lack of overall harmony without the accents on the doors and lower dash and center console. To each his own.....Definitely agree about the rims...My 2020 has the same rims and they are gorgeous...The early 5 hole rims were matt finish and didn't look as nice.......Happy Motoring PS...also got my last two Alfas from Strongsville and I'm in Long Island NY
One question: how does Apple Car play work? Wireless or you need to plug it? I have a 2021 Q5 lease up in few months, I’m considering to lease one of these, would be my first Alfa… hope I won’t be disappointed changing from Audi.
Does the '23 model year come with cooled seats as well as heated? That's like the only thing missing in my '21 Stelvio. The rear diffuser also looks so great
Alfa Romeo of Strongsville is a great dealer. Most seamless buying experience I ever had. Phil, keep up your Alfa content, really love your honest reviews.
Anyone purchase a new one recently? Whats a good discount off MSRP to look for? Right now there is $2750 in rebate I should be entitled to. How much dealer discount should I be looking for? Great review! Thanks!
Best discounts were when i bought this but usually August most dealers start cutting incentives because the new model year 2024 will start to arrive that’s usually best time to buy
They gone a bunch of the grecale in every trim in alfa romeo Daytona Beach FL, I follow up another channel calls rons rides he post videos reviews of grecales and alfa romeo give them a look. Congratulations on the new stelvio I like it and me as well was waiting for you review I'm tinnking in trading mine 2019, how many miles you have on you blue one and how much they give you back on the buy back if something you can disclose thank you.
@@autofanaticcars looking forward to the full review!!! Keep it up good work! Also I recently drove a ct5 blackwing, I think you would enjoy it if you get a chance to drive one.
yes that is the other brand they mentioned and thanks for sharing the scratching aspect and any idea why? do the wipers cause the scratches? this is what concerned me about doing the window. I did a video months back on a 2022 Porsche 718 GTS and the owner had the front windshield done and it turned all cloudy and i remember doing the video that day how hard it was to see. apparently these film manufactures are suffering from bad QC lately and i bet it is from the constant supply shortages and companies struggle to try substitute materials only to later realize it fails. it even happens to us in production of our car care line the last 3 years has been a nightmare for all manufacturing segments worldwide. We had our Stelvio window break on our 2019 and Allstate refused to install OEM and the aftermarket glass caused an issue for 2 years with the Forward Collision system which is why we want to protect the new car before something happens.
@@autofanaticcars The installer provided a liquid wax that comes with the film, I apply it diligently and that has keep the wipers from scratching the film. I used a squeegee to clean the windshield (during a pit stop while traveling), there must have been bugs or dirt on the squeegee and that's what scratched the film. Lesson learned I now carry window cleaning solution and a microfiber to clean the windshield when I travel. There is a UV coating on the film, I suspect that is what became scratched. I have had no issue with it clouding up, it is as clear as it was the day it was installed.
it does not have the adaptive shocks i believe it should have the lSD but on an AWD model that doesn't even matter. reason I chose the Veloce over the Estrema which has the adaptive shocks and 21 wheels is i am lowering the Stelvio and from prior experience with my QV i honestly never liked the shock tuning of the adaptive shocks when lowered and feel the standard shocks should give a much better results that i am seeking. future mod coming soon
I have always wanted one but went with a cx-5. Never looked at the Alfa just didn't want high repair and reliability costs. Maybe I should have done more research
@@autofanaticcars my lease up in 3 months on my Stelvio 2.0 and had a Giulia 2.0 before, deciding m4 or m5 vs getting another stelvio suv but QV this time. Wife not a fan of the Verde Montreal 😔
honestly all great choices but get what you can comfortably afford and the spec you want that should limit the options down as the Stelvio QV are not selling and you can get crazy discounts on leftover brand new 2022 models and even 2023 models but the BMW's might be harder to find what your looking for. If you do not need the SUV space or AWD get an M3 with a manual like I did!!!!!
it is decent depending on your audio source the only issue with too much bass you get some interior rattles in the doors and rear cargo area so you need to tone it down

I want to sell the OEM tires ASAP and try either a Bridgestone or Pirelli this time around not sure yet but want to sell these tires first before i dig deeper
ha ha ha yeah i tried buying this from them for over a year that place was a disaster in every way and the reason they lost the franchise. I hope someone like Ray Catena or Pepe takes over Alfa around here then i would have confidence the place would be run properly and treat customers right.
We did their prices were way to high they did not offer any discounts. Strongville moves so much volume nobody would touch the deals they made on my trade etc.
would never consider the Estrema because of the 21 wheels. its not practical if you bend a wheel and get a flat with no spare good luck finding that size tire locally it would take days to get and not worth the stress.
@@autofanaticcars Gotcha. I was thinking estrema for you because of the CF interior bits. We updated my wife’s 2018 Ti Sport to a 2022 Ti. We got white as well but just the black interior. We also got the premium interior and sound package. I wish she would have gotten the Veloce but she never used the paddles in her words. She is missing the sport seats. Overall you can definitely feel the difference in ride and quality of materials.
always a compromise for the ladies ha ha ha, i got permission to do whatever I want on the new Stelvio EXCEPT a sports exhaust she absolutely hated the race exhaust and drone for 2 years on our 2019 Ti Sport and was busting my chops daily and I finally removed it. thanks for also sharing your experiences of the older and new models to highlight the improvements.

Can you do a video on how to reset the stelvionoik change light on the dash lol. Can’t seem to figure it out
Took your advice and found a 2022 Veloce exact same color specs as yours.
awesome enjoy it, we love our new Stelvio, i just installed the black Nero badges and a new Sprint Filter air filter. Gonna do more mods very soon
@@autofanaticcars where did you source the badges. is it an easy install?
Curious how you know they changed the suspension geometry to remove the sharp steering that most people love about the car? I find nothing online about this change.
The lower control arms are different as is spindles and attach points and new steering rack. 2020 they did this on all models because sissys complained the steering was to fast and tires scrubbed in cold temps so ridiculous how US customers complain and they did this
I owned a 18, and 21 QV and took both cars apart to see differences same with Stelvios I’ve owned
Nice spec, it’s going to pop with the black badging! Wow those seats are RED, imo a bit darker would be ideal.
Excellent review. I have a '23 Stelvio, have not been able to find source for Sprint Air Filter you recommend. Please advise. Thanks!
Very hard to get we were imported them but Sprint is too difficult to deal with so consider a BMC filter
Hey. I just got my stelvio. Do you still have one of the tires?
Alfa forever legeng
Nice review...not so sure about the lack of red accents however on door cards and lower dash and center console. I have a 2020 Stelvio Ti Sport in Trofeo White with the Red seats and in your current version without the aforementioned accents, the seats look like they were stolen out of another model and inserted here. There is a lack of overall harmony without the accents on the doors and lower dash and center console. To each his own.....Definitely agree about the rims...My 2020 has the same rims and they are gorgeous...The early 5 hole rims were matt finish and didn't look as nice.......Happy Motoring
PS...also got my last two Alfas from Strongsville and I'm in Long Island NY
Love this channel
You see the grey button on the tip of the left hand stick? Press that once. This will disable the lane keep beeping.
yes we figured that out after the video, good thing these cars still come with owners manuals lol
One question: how does Apple Car play work? Wireless or you need to plug it?
I have a 2021 Q5 lease up in few months, I’m considering to lease one of these, would be my first Alfa… hope I won’t be disappointed changing from Audi.
carplay is both bluetooth or plug in, works great with the plug it does drop the connection at times unless it is due to bad cords who knows.
Would you still recc to buy a used 2020 or 2019 stelvio ti sport ? even without the double pane , i want the good driving dyanmics
Absolutely
Does the '23 model year come with cooled seats as well as heated? That's like the only thing missing in my '21 Stelvio. The rear diffuser also looks so great
our seats are also heated in the rear along with steering wheel i forgot to mention that on the 19 Stelvio the rear seats did not do that on ours
Alfa Romeo of Strongsville is a great dealer. Most seamless buying experience I ever had. Phil, keep up your Alfa content, really love your honest reviews.
Couldn't agree more!
Red "accent" ...the seats are all red, LOL❗️and that red is GLORIOUS❗️❗️
Is there ambient lighting on the inside like BMW and Mercedes
no the Italians are not offering that yet on these cars
@@autofanaticcars Thinking about putting it in my 18 sport
Love those classic, round Alfa styled rims👌
yeah they should have done nicer wheels on the QV since the start i love these new wheels
@Auto Fanatic love the QV rims 👍👍
Can you turn off the traction control ?
Che Bella Macchina !
Will the battery need to be replaced on this model as well?
as a precautionary measure il be doing it soon
Can you test drive the new grecale trofeo? Congrats on the stelvio!
not available anywhere yet but one day i will
They gone a bunch of the grecale in every trim in alfa romeo Daytona Beach FL, I follow up another channel calls rons rides he post videos reviews of grecales and alfa romeo give them a look.
What windshield protection film are you having installed?
my installer calls it STEK I believe not sure but I think only 2 companies offer window protection film and both are not easy to get right now i hear
@@autofanaticcars I have ClearPlex installed on my 2018 BMW X3 M40i. It has held up well over the 4 years. Only downside is that it scratches easily.
yes that is the other brand they mentioned and thanks for sharing the scratching aspect and any idea why? do the wipers cause the scratches? this is what concerned me about doing the window.
Beautiful suv, congrats !!!
Thank you!
Does the Veloce come with adaptive suspension and LSD?
it does not have the adaptive shocks i believe it should have the lSD but on an AWD model that doesn't even matter. reason I chose the Veloce over the Estrema which has the adaptive shocks and 21 wheels is i am lowering the Stelvio and from prior experience with my QV i honestly never liked the shock tuning of the adaptive shocks when lowered and feel the standard shocks should give a much better results that i am seeking. future mod coming soon
Congratulations 👍
Is the new Stelvio still serving you well? Has it been reliable?
yes my 1 year ownership video will be coming soon as next week so stay tuned to the channel for updates
@@autofanaticcars Looking forward to it.
I have always wanted one but went with a cx-5. Never looked at the Alfa just didn't want high repair and reliability costs. Maybe I should have done more research
Mazda builds a great SUV with great value we just got a CX5 for the inlaws. Pretty substantial price difference between a Stelvio Veloce and CX5
Very nice
Did you get yours from Skip?
Doug and Michael i deal with
@@autofanaticcars my lease up in 3 months on my Stelvio 2.0 and had a Giulia 2.0 before, deciding m4 or m5 vs getting another stelvio suv but QV this time.
Dam that car is beautiful
I can't find any reviews of the HK system in a Stelvio. How is it??
it is decent depending on your audio source the only issue with too much bass you get some interior rattles in the doors and rear cargo area so you need to tone it down
Did you ever sell those tires?
No the people who inquired were so far away the shipping made no sense, would prefer local or a North East sale to make it easier if your interested please email us through our website, www.auto-fanatic.com
@@autofanaticcars I have about 28k on my Stelvio and need new tires soon. We live pretty close to each other so I’ll be taking those off your hands. I’ll email on your website or hit you up on IG and we can make this happen.
ok perfect lets do it
Hopefully no electrical gremlins ! Only scary thing is potential reliance on dealers for fixing weird Italian crap.
Otherwise I love it. If going big, it’s fun to go Italian
Love it
I hate that this car comes with continentals again. Are you going to change it to michelins like before?
I want to sell the OEM tires ASAP and try either a Bridgestone or Pirelli this time around not sure yet but want to sell these tires first before i dig deeper
Why are the headlamps not like the Tonale????? Are you sure this is a 2023??
I am sorry,it's the 2024 that has the different light.
Seems like I was wrong again. So it's only the European models for now that has the Tonale lights?
Hate to say it but in 2023 majority of SUVs this size has a very good center console screen. This looks more like a 2015 screen on BMW or Toyota.
If your interested in playing with screens you do not buy any Italian car period.
To me looks totally the same as my Veloce 2021. Probably it's a vastly improved over 2019 version. But in my case it looks the same :)
Ackerman steering on 23s as well.
it does not feel anything like the 18 we had they replaced the steering rack and front arm geometry same as my 21 QV
@io2251 How do you know?
How much you pay
By the way there's a set of chinese splash guards which work just fine. No need to design anything.
Stop supporting China and support real brands and small business not ones who copy IP from everyone.
😍👍
Good thing you didn’t go to Alfa Romeo of white plains. #RIP
ha ha ha yeah i tried buying this from them for over a year that place was a disaster in every way and the reason they lost the franchise. I hope someone like Ray Catena or Pepe takes over Alfa around here then i would have confidence the place would be run properly and treat customers right.
@@autofanaticcars you didn't give Miller a try?
We did their prices were way to high they did not offer any discounts. Strongville moves so much volume nobody would touch the deals they made on my trade etc.
I honestly thought you were gonna get an Estrema
would never consider the Estrema because of the 21 wheels. its not practical if you bend a wheel and get a flat with no spare good luck finding that size tire locally it would take days to get and not worth the stress.
I wish you told us you're gonna pull over before you did that.
What?
gorgeous car, hideous rims
If you have your money and you know how hard you have earned it, get away from anything with an alfa badge or get yourself an old school alfa.
ha ha ha have you had a nightmare Alfa experience please share? I was forced to sell my QV few months back due to it breaking so much and being a safety issue/
@@autofanaticcars i have never personally had an alfa, but a close friend of mine had the QV sports car basher, it was cool and all but something about the interior kept squeaking and annoying, the build quality is not great for what you pay for and compared to my f80 that i owned then, it was nowhere near except the tad performance!
