    Great video. I hiked the loop trail today and had both the summit and Hutchinson Homestead to myself. I saw a total of 10 people the whole day.

    One of my favorite places. Here is seen excellent examples of exfoliation, a type of rock weathering. Enjoyed your coverage of this grand place. Thanks Layne!

    Great video Layne thanks for sharing. I’m headed out there for a quick hike in a few days and used your information to help plan my hike. I need to do an over or two out here in the cooler weather.

      Thanks Jim, it's one of my favorites as well. Next visit I will have to check out the Black Jack Ridge Trail, it is the one hiking trail that I haven't done there yet.

    Nice, you put the logging temp sensor to good work. Cool to see how extreme the highs and lows are.

    • @LayneComfort
      @LayneComfort  3 года назад

      Yes sir, it is cool to know that info. I also enjoy seeing how the temp fluctuates in between the highs and lows as it drops or rises.

    Base Camp hiking can be super relaxing. Not having to setup camp every night and just lugging around essential gear cannot be beat.

    • @LayneComfort
      @LayneComfort  3 года назад +3

      Totally agree. I have a couple more of this style of trip this year. It's easy to get caught up in the hype of wanting to crush miles but there are many different ways to enjoy the outdoors, each with their own pros and cons. HYOH!

    I must have just missed you - I camped the 31st and 1st and did the same loop you did except I stayed at the regular campground so I could easily stay on top of Stone Mountain to watch the sunset then hike down to my site. Wolf Rock was my favorite spot.

    • @LayneComfort
      @LayneComfort  3 года назад

      Smart move James! I bet the sunset was great up there. Wolf Rock was my favorite as well.

    It’s so obnoxious when people play music on the trail. At least sometimes they have a shred of respect and turn it down when others are around, but some people just can’t be helped.
    This is a beautiful area. It’s too bad the backcountry sites aren’t a little close to the main feature, but it looks like you were pretty isolated, so maybe a silver lining. 16 miles in one day always feels awesome. You get to earn your dinner! The granite outcroppings and falls reminded me of Table Rock SP in SC.

    • @LayneComfort
      @LayneComfort  3 года назад +3

      Yes definitely pros and cons to the backpacker sites being away on their own. 16 miles with a day pack felt much better than 16 with a backpack. I haven't been to Table Rock SC yet but might be out there soon if all goes according to plan.

    • @LayneComfort
      @LayneComfort  3 года назад +3

      Big plans, I'm a dreamer. 3 trips filmed over the Winter here in NC&SC that are in production. Several more to come in the Southern Appalachians throughout the Spring. Hopefully back in the GYE late-Summer, the longer I can manage to spend there the better.

    Will be heading here this year. Was just curious, it seems like you left your main pack at the campsite during day#2. Is this the norm there or did you drop it back off in your car?

    • @LayneComfort
      @LayneComfort  2 года назад +1

      It is the norm for me there. There isn’t much traffic out to those backpack sites besides the few other backpackers who might be staying out there

  • @barragin9893
    @barragin9893 3 года назад +1

    Layne - your videos this past year or so are so crystal clear. Mind me asking what your camera set up is?

    • @LayneComfort
      @LayneComfort  3 года назад +2

      Up to and including my next video have been filmed with a GoPro Hero 7 in 1080 HD. Starting after my next video they are with a GoPro Hero 9 in 4K - should be even more crystal clear than before.

    • @LayneComfort
      @LayneComfort  3 года назад +1

      Hey Barragin, I want to let it be known that I no longer use a GoPro. The Hero 9 has severe audio malfunctions that GoPro have been aware of since it released but they continue to sell faulty units to customers. The DJI Osmo Action does everything a GoPro does at half the price.

    Did you leave your hammock set up at the site while you hiked? Or pack it up while you were gone

      I left it set up on this trip since I was at the same site both nights

    Always wanted to try those sites. Do the other backpacking sites appear to be as hammock friendly?

    • @LayneComfort

      A & B are hammock friendly for sure, I haven’t walked up to D but I’d imagine it is as well.
