Really detailed review dude, all I’ve seen so far is journalists complaining about the gameplay like they didn’t know what to expect with these types of horror games. But you have talked about it based on its own merits and with a knowledge of the past games they’ve developed. Keep it up!
Wow, thanks so much for the kind words. I’m glad you enjoyed the video, Astro Bot should be next so I’ll look forward to you watching my review of that game when it’s out too! 🙂
Great video and review thank you so much just subscribed looking forward to next review i pre-order the premium edition on astro bot so really excited and looking forward to that! I bought the deluxe edition for The Casting of Frank Stone and playing for the first time after your video!
I played almost every dark picture anthology + the quarry and frank stone, and tbh I didn't like Frank Stone, but I didn't dislike it either. I was hoping for some more intense moments or scary moments but there were very few of them. I also have to mention it feels lackluster, like if there are lots of things missing. There are places that seem obviously meant to have a Quick time event but then there's nothing. There are also whole paths that lead to other places where there's literally nothing, not a collectible, not a note that reveals anything interesting. Also, there are some things that are straight up taken from other games, or atleast are heavily inspired by them. For example, the manor's hallways moving is clearly taken from The Devil in Me, and the killer looks very similar to a night zombie from Dying Light. Might be a coincidence tho. But if there's something I really disliked is the lack of IMPORTANT choices. Like (minor spoilers), at one point you are asked to drink something. If you don't nothing happens. But if you do... nothing happens as well, and the game takes it as if it was some serious choice and adds it to the destiny thingy. There are also choices that are game ending, like, MAJOR SPOILERS, (this is the last I'll say), when saving Chris, you can't do ANYTHING to give Jaime a second chance, he just dies, no skill check to dodge, no quicktime event, nothing. He just, dies... END OF SPOILERS: I really liked the story tho, don't take me wrong, I'm SO hyped for Frank Stone as a killer in dbd and the story, although a bit confusing at times, is well developed and written. But as I said, it's more like watching a film rather than playing a game... A good film but, compared to Dark pictures anthology, a mid game.
Great points, I really do agree. It feels a little undercooked and rushed in parts, but I would be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy the story. I found it a lot more hooking than The Quarry and a few of the Dark Pictures, but certainly not Supermassive’s best. Still the ties with Dead by Daylight were really fun. Thanks so much for watching my review and leaving an awesome comment to read 🙂
I agree, the “important choices” are immediate deaths. There isn’t branching choices as other games have. The game overall feels lack lackluster. It doesn’t help that there is really only one ending. Nothing really happens in this game until the last 30 minutes and even then choices only immediately matter. This game feels rushed and they tried to extend the runtime with “puzzles” and long environmental walks. Also there is very little “evidence” to collect like the other games, so the plot never feels fleshed out.
"When saving Chris, you can't do ANYTHING to give Jaime a second chance" Yes, you can, actually. You have to follow a very specific path in Chapter 3, though.
@@pseudolukian2172 Yeah I know, I've done It after I beat the game for the first time but what I meant is that if you haven't done that route, there's not a single second chance which means Jaime just dies. Tbh my reaction and my friends' were like "Seriously? Just dead? Nothing I can do?" which for a game like that kind seems kinda odd and actually boring that the only Gameplay you get is "Death" and "possible not death"... And this is not the only time it happens too I think
Get the fire crackers keep them don't haggle camera price confront it dosent change anything with the run but it does make chris reunited with Jaime if they go back to the 80's this game and little hope are the only one I got all 5 saved
@baxterstockman2191 I agree with this comment. This didn't feel like a game. It felt like a chore and nothing was scary about it. I got bored to sleep listening to the dialogue. I wonder if these game studios have an honest group of people working with them asking them do you think this shit is fun?
Finally a comment I can agree with, the game last for like 5- 6 hours ish where 4-5 hours are just straight dialogue and boring stuff. They had the potential to make such a good game since it takes place in the dbd universe, but they decided to focus on making a dlc trailer for the next killer/survivor in dbd.
I really liked this game. It’s easily top three from supermassive. The only thing that kind of bummed me out was that it wasn’t really scary. However the music in this game was so good; for example (SPOILERS), when Frank Stone comes out of the screen in the final chapter and swallows someone. I still have so many questions about events that unfold during the game that I feel like will never get explained. Maybe it’s for the best…
As a super long time super massive fan, and a long time DBD. I was disappointed. The game ineffectively took too long to develop a plot and develop characters. As well as having a short lived climax.
It was an okay game, it wasnt as good as i expected it to be. I thought supermassives other games were much better, that being said it was not a bad game. My fav game from them is the devil in me and the house of ashes. They did nail the graphics and detail in this game though. I just thought it was too short and just wasnt enough here for me... I look forward to their new space game!
It was a great review. However, I had to turn it off real quickly because you kind of spoiled the story, particularly with the killer and the other stuff, which I wont mention because I don't want to spoil it in this comment.
Major apologies if you felt I spoiled anything before the spoiler segment. It is really difficult to review a game like this, giving enough detail whilst also filtering anything that could be a potential spoiler. I appreciate you watching what you did of the review however and I hope you have fun with the game. Maybe revisit after you’ve beaten it 🙂
In my opinion this game has one huge flaw. Spoiler: . . . . It always ends at the campfire. Your choices don't matter. It's just who appears at the end. I think it's just bad.
@@DonCritic i think what it tries to say is that The Entity has complete control on where you're going to end up, no matter if your family is there or not.
The casting of frank stone really changed my life. I have insomnia but after playing the first two hours of this "game" i can sleep with no issues from how damn boring this shit is
Finally a review that doesn’t just dog on the game for bad performance and actually mentions how good the story is. Well done and I’d agree it’s probably a B tier game
Man I hated this game. I always felt the dark pictures series were weaker than until dawn or the quarry, but I’d play any of those games over this. Maybe its lazy analysis but the tame was just boring. The game feels more like a scavenger hunt than a horror game. They tried wayyy too hard with the story. There was at no point during this game i felt scared or had fun in the slightest. Really disappointing stuff from supermassive and i will be hesitant to purchase their next game until i look at the reviews. I hope this is just a one off because until dawn and the quarry weren’t masterpieces but extremely fun and kept you on the edge of your seat the entire game.

Plenty of people praise Until Dawn, another Supermassive game. It's not like people didn't expect this type of game going into it.

Thanks so much for watching Tom! I hope my video didn’t give too much away, have fun with the game 😁

One of the worst games I have ever played and definitely one of the weakest of these type of games from this studio.

I feel the same as you, scare factor isn’t too high, but still a solid Supermassive Games entry. Thanks for watching the vid!
