I was working at Target when the system released, I’ll never forget how many people showed up to buy a PS4 and so many people left shortly afterwards because we sold out in like 5-10 minutes, meanwhile the Xbox One was sitting there in stock for another week. It was crazy the level of popularity the PS4 had right out the gate.
Sold out in 10 minutes! That must’ve been a busy shift haha. I remember going for a PS4 at launch, safe to say I had to stick with my PS3 a little longer 😄
Wow this must have taken some time! Great ranking Don I can’t wait to see some of the next episodes My favourites would have to be battlefield 4, black flag and Resogun
I didn’t get my first PS4 until fall 2014 when I bought the all white Destiny Bundle, which I fell in love with. 10 years later, I own multiple limited edition PS4 and PS4 Pro consoles.
I was thinking, “didn’t the PS4 have a ton of games at launch” so you opening mentioning how you spent over 200 hours makes perfect sense. It’s fascinating looking back on the launch titles of a system. 1:01 - For the PS4, my first game I played for it properly in any way was Gravity Rush Remastered, so I don’t think I’ve played any of it’s launch titles. At least, not on a PS4. It will be interesting to see if I have though. 2:46 - Correction, Putty Squad is a remake of an old Amiga game. The title screams Euro-Platformer with it’s large levels and tons of collectables about. It’s one that I’ve been curious about playing but never got around too (usually buy my games physically as well). The game was made by System 3, whom I believe hold the claim of the longest running independent British game developer. 4:29 - This is just the opening to Spore. It’s literally the cell stage of Spore. 7:14 - Didn’t take long for a PS Vita port to pop up, did it? I imagine there would be a fair few games that would struggle with the transition, especially trying to use the PS4 Touch Pad in place of the touch screen (where you have a direct sight of what you’re touching) or reverse touch pads. 8:47 - Sony were wanting to invest in more games-as-a-service for the PS5 and yet here’s a still active PS4 shooter that they could port and draw attention too already. 11:52 - So like Shady Part of Me or A Shadow’s Tale? This looks really cool and I was surprised by the 3D element to it, given most the shadow platforming games are 2D or 2.5d terrains. Contrast looks and sounds really nice, so it’s surprising this is the first time I’ve heard of it. 15:06 - I’ve only played Knack 2, but looking back on Knack 1, I totally see your point about it’s simplicity. I’ve also heard this ‘graphical showcase’ suffers from frame drops, which is ironic given it’s intention. 22:37 - What do you know; a game I have played. I experienced Trine 2 on the Wii U with two of my brothers. It was… hectic to say the least, but very enjoyable. 28:51 - The Cops and Robbers element fits well with Need for Speed (would also work wonderfully with a new Road Rash; c’mon EA). Quite surprising this was only racer at launch for a Sony console. No Ridge Racer or Gran Turismo? 34:00 - Kind of funny that DC have such a presence on the PS4’s launch here given Sony’s greater interest in Marvel and Spiderman later in the system’s life. 37:50 - Ah, another game I played thanks to visiting my niece and nephew. I wasn’t huge on this Lego Marvel Super Heroes, mainly because of the Open World hub. With the kids trying to guide me along, it took ages to find a level or objective (I do not care for aimless wandering). 41:23 - It is amazing the high regard that Assassins Creed 4 is held in. I know it’s well-loved but quite a surprise to see it claim the top spot here. An interesting dive into the PS4 launch titles, which there were far more than I expected.
Thanks for watching Grin! Love reading your detailed comments. I’m glad to hear you played one of the better games of Trine 2, it sounds awesome on the Wii U. I liked that systems dual screen features. And thanks for informing me of Putty Squad, I only knew of the SNES version, I had no idea an Amiga version preceded it
@@DonCritic Aww, thanks. Yeah, I played Trine 2 with two of my brothers, an as you'd imagine, it was a chaotic experience. Witnessing my younger brother kill a boss with boxes was hilarious. Happy to inform; one of those bits of trivia that has consistently stuck in my head despite not having actually played Putty Squad (keep wanting too and it keeps passing me by).
Good video! Really looking forward to your future PS4 projects! While I didn't play the PS4 versions specifically, I liked Lego Marvel Super Heroes and Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag.

Here we are 10 years later and Deadbox is still getting its ass handed to them by PlayStation. 😂

Great picks! And thank you, I’m glad you liked the video!

That’s around the same time I got one too. I tried to get the White PS4 but it had sold out near me haha. Thanks for watching the video!
