      That should only apply if you copy to iPhone / iPad first and then copy to something else. If you use a powered hub, you should be able to bypass storing on the iPhone / iPad and transfer direct from SD to eg USB / SSD. Same as a computer, you're just using the iOS and a bit of RAM to do it.

    I do my transfers directly to my iPhone 15. I just plug my SSD directly to my phone and my camera cards through an Anker card reader to the phone. One at the time of course… plug one of the two and open the Files app. Once you see your card or your SSD you can copy it to the right folder on the phone. Just like you’d do with a Mac.

    Great vid and simple explanation. How long will it takes to import a file size of 100GB? Does it also import RAW as it is. As the days goes by, the photos will be accumulating. Does the import repeat the transfering of photos already imported before and taking twice the time or it can auto select only new photos.

    • @358studios
      @358studios  6 месяцев назад

      Hi @silverpassion3588, thank you for asking. I appreciate it. Are you able to provide me with more details? The import is using the basic operating system file structure. I think most of your questions are answered if you think about it as if you were doing this on a regular computer. The RAW files will remain intact and will be treated just like any other file. As far as the import repeating the transferring of photos, I believe you will get a duplication notice just like you would, if you were on a computer. It may also put a dash one or something after similar to a computer. When you go into your iPad and select the files you want transferred that is where you would differentiate files you've transferred before versus your current. I personally don't have this issue because I format my SD cards after every shoot and my camera creates files in sequence.

    How is your external drive formatted (file system)? I was wondering on buying an iPad instead of a laptop for easier travel carry, but I'm mainly a Windows user (desktop for editing/rendering), so would both the iPad and Windows detect it as an external drive and file transfer could be done? I would refrain from using endless amounts of SD cards if possible.
    E.g.: Recording with GoPro -> transfer files to external drive via iPad during travel -> transfer files from external drive to Windows PC once at home

      Hi @SzilveszterGava, I'm glad it helped. Thank you for taking the time to comment. I appreciate it. That is a great question. Let me see if I can help.
      It sounds like you want both Windows and Apple operating systems to be able to read and write to your SSD Drive. The best, current solution to that is to format the drive using exFAT. Unlike FAT32, exFAT can handle larger file sizes that are bigger than 4 GB and is compatible with both. That will work for your situation.
      Of course, long-term I would suggest you step away from the Windows operating system and come over to Apple. Especially, if you're a creative and producing content on a regular basis. It's just easier, and less expensive in the long run. I'm happy to explain why if needed.
      The other file format options you may see is the default Windows format, NTFS. Apple can only read but not write to this format. And, Apple's default format for SSD drives, HFS+/APFS.
      I hope that helps. Please let me know if you have other questions.
