For those who are confused by the theory aspect of the chords: the first chord is just an F# major chord, but the top note has been copied and transposed down 1 octave and the bottom note has been copied and transposed down 2 and 3 octaves. The second is the same thing but minor, but since the middle note (which is the only difference between major and minor chords) isn't copied and transposed like the top and bottom notes, nothing else has to change. The third chord is an E major chord, with the top and bottom notes copied and transposed the same way as the first 2 chords.
You and Edwan the only two premier FL tut gurus I stop my day for. Have learned so much and am grateful. Arcade, please keep on keepin' on. The vid's are so fun and helpful. Peace and success...
I'm not sure if you'll see this, Arcade, but hopefully you will! I've been trying my hand at producing this past week (been dreaming about it for months; decided to go for it in my week off and continue from there!) And your tutorials are fantastic! I don't know why, but you seem to connect, with me at least, in a way that no other tutorial-giver has been able to. Everything's been so much easier when following your tips. Thank you! Please never stop! P.s. if you ever want to go really crazy with your tutorials, perhaps a How To on Death Grips, or even Zone Eater ;)
I think these kinds of tutorials can be really great for helping people find their own sound cause its helping people to almost see and understand how other artists do it. Keep it up man :D
Dude @10:33 Most beautiful transition.. that really got me going!! Sorry about the previous comment. It came out all wrong. I had to edit it. You are a fantastic good dude and i love your tutorials. The transition at 10:30 is just amazing. I must make This in to a song now. I will post it in a few days. Or maybe a week.. ive already started the project and I have copied some of your notes. Best regars Track Taylor!
You do know that those chords at the beginning you said we're more happy and more sad were actually just F# and F#m with an extra bass note an octave down and the middle note of the chord moved an octave up?
Can you make a Serum tutorial series where you experiment with various knobs? It's really hard for a serum beginner to think of linking all that stuff together.
I feel like I could have summed this up in a five second video simply by saying “just mess with some notes until you make a chord that sounds good to you”
I know and that's fine :) Just saying it's a simple explination. It doesn't really define to Deadmau5 himself in terms of how he writes. To do so you have to really look into what scales he uses and how he works around his chord progressions in terms of timing and structure. From a song writer's perspective I mean, otherwise you're more just explaining how to write a chord progression in general which is fine, but you get my point.
I mean even he himself said that's how he does his chord progressions. He also doesn't know music theory. And uses Cthulu very often. Even in his Masterclass this is exactly how he explained making chords and actually showed it. Just trying out different notes and some didn't work so he changed them and so on. So I think it's pretty accurate to how deadmau5 does it actually :)
Ah okay well then if your facts are as you say then fair play man. I will throw a bit of honesty on the pile and say it is normally better to throw notes around and see what works best rather then run through your memory of scales and chords. Actually had a pretty good debate abotu that on a video for my youtube channel but sadly I lost that video. Oh btw, as simple as it is I really like that synth sound you used.
I critiqued a video years ago.. .about how simple the tutorial was.. and Craig Anderton replied PM.. he said "everyone is at different levels". I never forgot that because I was embarassed. Maybe this isnt for you or me... but it is still useful to a lot of people.
For chords here are some tips: Learn major/minor chords, 1-3-5, basically. Then learn chord inversions. Add sevenths and ninths or whatever to spice it up once in a while, but major/minor chord inversions is usually enough.
You could listen to one of my tracks, I'm a novice and I'd like you to give me an opinion, Thanks soundcloud.com/andres-casanova-753536018/im-fine-dian
I have studied music theory but i usually throw all those ideas out the window when I'm producing. Some of my 'chords' are straight up weird but they work with certain other parts etc.
Hi! The cutoff knob doesn't seem to make 'gentle' soft plucks before building up to the larger. Even when it's turned all the way down it doesn't sound much different than the sound shown here. (I miss z3ta)!!! Can you please let me know?
Hello Arcade! great video! Thanx. I have to ask, because i have a problem, it seems so easy in your daw to get cthulhu to be triggered by serum. I have cubase 8 and i CANT FIGURE IT OUT! do you have any tips?

Thank you for showing how to use Cthulhu because I already bought this and had not tried it yet! Now I am excited to give it a shot!
Can you help please write Deadmau5 No Pressure Remix? I even have a drop of beat percussion from the original track.

Excellent demo and tutorial on Cthulhu... Steve Duda is a programming genius !
I think these kinds of tutorials can be really great for helping people find their own sound cause its helping people to almost see and understand how other artists do it. Keep it up man :D
Wow the idea of using that chord patch almost feels like cheating, so simple yet so beautiful

Yah whatevs :D
Deadmau5 does switch from major to minor a lot though so you did a good job on that. The synth also sounds perfect.
Awesome video !! Always good videos keep it up!

I feel like I could have summed this up in a five second video simply by saying “just mess with some notes until you make a chord that sounds good to you”
Yeah but I wanted to show the process of it. :)

Just wodering, do you mute your mic when you press play in DAW? I'm asking this, because I don't hear any bleed through mic. Thanks!
If you use a seconsary line out, then run your mic and secondary computer audio into a effects controller you can filter it out
I knew u were a fan as soon as u produced lofi needs a ladder

Hello Arcade! great video! Thanx. I have to ask, because i have a problem, it seems so easy in your daw to get cthulhu to be triggered by serum. I have cubase 8 and i CANT FIGURE IT OUT! do you have any tips?
what website, app, or whatever it's called, did you make the song on?
11:07 looks like a glitched mario pipe
deadmau5 video and deadmau5 track. nice
Where can I get this software ?! I’ve always wanted to do this 🙌🏼🙌🏼
for arpeggio you can use bluearp for substitute cthulhu
There is a Mau5 preset in Serum, it's pretty awesome
You go to long without posting vids. We need one everyday. Thank you.
What is the music you used in the intro?
That what I like about deadmau5. He doesn't conform to simple house chords and structures
Fantastic. If you changed your soundcloud address, you might want to update the link.
Would mind making a tutorial for mixing vocal and finding tempo.. and making chords for vocal..
Trial and error is cool, but a knowledge of music theory is invaluable. But if it works, it works. and sure does here!
This is actually how Deadmau5 does it, mess around until it sounds Good hehe
Deadmau5 suite 03 tutorial?
great tutorial!
16:38 Getting some Karma Fields vibes
where is the modular synth?
Best RUclipsrs are Arcade and Edwan
Now I am a Deadmouse!
I've learned that deadmau5 chords are a pain in the ass to make
Nice tutorial
question : do you know the music theory yourself? if not , you have a pretty good ear mate
AintYoHood no I dont 😀 thanks then 🙂
Please re-upload the song somewhere its amazing!

I know this is a year old but if you Ctrl+arrow down it will transpose you a full octave
Could you make a "music like Axollo (Moonstruck)" video??
dude you became deadmau5!!!
arcademau5
Which kick is this
Me at 3:02 : thats not at all how you make chords...take some music theory
Could you make a drum and bass tutorial?
Serum was also made by Steve Duda.
song 18:45?
Hay can you please make a video on how to make Dubstep INTRO , like how to start a Dubstep song. Thanks
- Watch video
- Get inspired
- Open FL Studio
- Make a shit track
- Cry
lol keep trying
How good is fl studio compared to Logic Pro x for electronic music?
FL Studio is easier to use without being too limited in what you can make.
