    Love the kit Liam. I think you'll have no problems at all, but wish you the best of luck all the same. I did the C2C East to West in '93 (plus or minus a year - can't remember). I've done a lot of backpacking since then and my kit these days has a lot of similar designs to what you will be using. Other than the materials, the only significant differences are (1) I use an ethanol stove I made from a red bull can, (2) I have gone back to a sleeping bag (Western Mountaineering Summerlite) after 10 drafty years trying to make a quilt work for me as a shuffley side sleeper, (3) I don't carry waterproof bottoms any more, choosing to either wear shorts or a dyneema rain kilt improvised from the hexamid's removable groundsheet, (4) I carry a Euroschirm light trek umbrella that I strap above my rucksack over my head if its not too windy, (5) I carry LifeVenture soap leaves (dried sheets of detergent) to wash clothes as I go, (6) GoreTex socks. None of this stuff will make or break a hike, but they could be worth considering if you want to play around experimenting with future kit. Best wishes

    Nice one Liam, good kit there., I did C2C in 2019, and still best trip I’ve done. Although just watch out for Lake District section you can rarely get any phone signal ( if using data mapping) I also had to use compass on a couple of sections, AtoZ map of route was essential…and there’s not many shops to re supply ( unless you go off trail), I took a few ‘summit to eat’ freeze dried meals, but pub meals are easy through whole route, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it all, can’t wait to watch your trip.

    Did the C2C in 1996. It’s a great walk. It got drier as I went East. Modern backpacks don’t have side pockets that can be closed/zipped shut. Not sure why. But I really have to hunt around to find one. This slimline pack is all very well, but everything has to be crammed in the main pack…and it’s so easy to lose stuff out of those open topped side pockets.

    You need proper walking boots, either leather or synthetic. You need ankle support and footbed support and you need dry feet, the morning dew in a field will soak a trail shoe in seconds. All these trail shoes and trainer type footwear are a gimmick. Approach shoes? Approach what? You turn back or you carry your proper boots with you to put on when it gets a bit sludgy? Ok for a potter on the canal towpath, but not a hike in the Peak District etc. I'd recommend gaiters in winter as well. My boots? Scarpa SL Active and Scarpa Manta Pro GTX, both outstanding boots and the best boots I've ever had. Total confidence in the toughest terrain.

    • @lesliesmith8507
      @lesliesmith8507 Год назад +1

      I have to agree. Watching you doctor your feet, rather than put good boots on, that offer support, foot protection, ankle protection, water protection, stability to your knees, and hence upper body, why would you put yourself through that?
      I've worn out 3 pairs of Scarpa SL Active, and found them to be great, though heavy, but they get the job done. I'm now trialling old fashioned country brogue boots ( Trickers ) as I've gone of Vibram.
      Do your feet a favour.

You keep it nice and simple, and your videos are truly awesome. If you can swap your bottles out for BPA free plastic, it'd be healthier (I don't know what food safety rules they have in the UK). Just checking out your videos as I am planning to do the coast to coast walk this summer. Great content and learning a lot. One thing I used to do when I was in the army was I would carry my baby powder in a larger ziplock bag which was big enough to put a whole foot in at once. When changing socks I would just put my whole foot in the bag and talc up. It would use less talk and stops it getting all over the place. Keep it up the great work!

    Good video mate, good setup. Would love to hear your opinion on the tent in more detail in regards to its performance in different weather. I have heard the condensation is a total killer with it being a single skin tent. The only thing I didn’t like was the mess tin you have and the noise from it (rattling). Personally I would throw a cloth in there to stop the noise, but maybe it’s not so noticeable in your pack. Have a good one. Thanks for the video.

      @@rodneyhull9764 Of course! I've had the 3FUL Tutor 38 as a starter pack, and it worked wonders. But at some point I definitely wanted an upgrade. There's just no beating the quality that Atompacks has to offer. It's definitely not 'similar' once you've actually tried it on. It's so much sturdier, heftier, stronger than any 3FUL pack I've tried. That for about the same pack weight, it's beautiful!
      But yeah, for starter gear the 3FUL stuff really is cool.

    Love this and the Z-packs tent. Just becarefull Liam with the Dyneema tent on extreme high winds, and mist or very wet weather specially on high mountains. Many think that having a highly resistent material tent is good. But what I have experience is that none aerodynamic tents, get draged alot more, so eventually when wind gets it it tears down the whole tent and poles.
    Another big issue is condensation too, everything gets wet. And it just happend to that american thruhiker on video on Island Wanderlust too

      I also have those army waterproofs trousers too, really good apart from when you need your pockets! And the Thermarest Trail Pro - that's a little heavier but couldn't afford the ultralight one.
      A good tip for a cheap breathable waterproof jacket that's pretty lightweight - get a Royal Navy surplus one, with their version of goretex, it's black with reflective strips, Usually like 30 quid online, and as good as any 200-300 quid jacket. It will keep you completely dry....also the Qikpac Trespass ones are like £25, bought it as an emergency on holiday - and found that's even lighter, and seems to be pretty cool/breathable, and I think will compress down further.
