Mine is coming tomorrow. Tennant is my second favorite Doctor as well. Although Jon Pertwee (my first) is my favorite! But you said it best. The David Tennant era is one of the most magical in the history of the show.
Not sure if anyone cares but if you're bored like me atm then you can stream pretty much all the latest movies and series on instaflixxer. Been streaming with my brother during the lockdown :)
I love the work they put into Doctor Who home media releases. I have the DVD sets from years back and it is clear that they put in effort into them since every episode has its own commentary track which is something you don't usually see for television.
Next Sunday, June 21, 2020 is Father's Day in Mexico. Last week I ordered my Dr Who package from amazon, at an incredible price. Today my package arrived and I thought to open it immediately, but I held myself back. And finding your description of the package content has reassured me. Yes, I can wait these 6 days with the package closed. Thanks for sharing . Greetings from Mexico City
I just ordered my set 2 days ago for $9.99! Never seen doctor who but always been interested in checking it out, can't wait to receive mine and watch, I hear the episodes are pretty standalone too so no problem jumping in late
Loved the time-lord opening, you look at home with a Galafrion Gallifreyan guitar. The Blu-ray's in the UK for Tennant's doctor are still about £15 per series, so $33 for all three and the specials is a great price. David Tennant built on the firm foundation Russel T Davies and Eccleston lay down in series one, to make it Saturday night, must-watch TV again. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and first impressions.
It’s definitely VERY cheap, isn’t it?Eccleston’s season feels like it’s laying foundation, and Series 2 and onward feels like it’s just having a ton of fun. I always thought that was by design, but now that we’ve heard Eccleston’s account about the tension, it makes me wonder. Maybe the reason it turned out as well as it did with Tennant is because of those early tensions.
Oh I remember Doctor Who on the Sci Fi Channel. They aired classic serials as tv movies which honestly is still my preferred way to watch. Rewatching the Classic Doctor Who serials on DVD with the cliffhangers is always jarring for me.
I liked David Tennant as the Dr but my favourite has to be John Pertwee as when I was growing up here in the UK during the 70’s he was on tv every Saturday. Dr who has advanced so much since then but the old episodes bring back so many childhood memories.
Pertwee was great, and I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of his first Blu-ray set (which you guys got in July) in a few weeks when I can ride along in Bessie and watch him use his sonic screwdriver to reverse the polarity of the neutron flow.
My brother got Eccleston’s season on Blu-ray and he gave me DVD, I just got this yesterday, he has all of the Matt Smith seasons (the original Blu-ray box sets) and I have the complete Capaldi collection. Neither of us has Whittaker yet, not physically at least. I’ll leave it to you to guess how...
My favorite ones is the two-parter were they go to the planet near the black hole and you see the giant demon devil creature. That was actually the first episode I saw, it was on syfy back in good day randomly when I came walking into a hotel room on summer vacation.
The Impossible Planet and The Satan Pit! Love that two parter. And for this old Doctor Who fan, it was one of the first times that "New Who" went really hard science fiction and got far away from Earth. I remember being frustrated that this character could travel anywhere in time and space, but spent all his time on Earth. Turns out that, during those days, Doctor Who episodes set on Earth got way more audience views than those that went to weird planets or places. What a long way we've come.
Thank you for doing this. I know it is an older video but it does make me tempted to get this set. I have all of the Doctor Who stuff from New Who up until Smith's last year. I need 12 and 13 and I need to buy the boxset of all the Christmas specials. But save for those few missing things... Anyways, stay awesome. Love your username!
Thanks for the comment, Terry! At one point int the last couple of weeks, this set actually dropped down to 15 dollars, which just blows my mind. They're practically giving it away! Hopefully they'll release a similar box set for Matt Smith. Thanks again!
Season 26 is out on bluray in December in the UK. Already have all the 7th Doctor stories on DVD but it is my favourite Doctor and one of his best seasons. Was fortunate enough to meet Andrew Cartmel a few years back, he was really starting to turn around the funk Doctor Who had found itself in. Such a shame it didn't continue.
Internet Antenna was totally how I found out about New Who. And I was late to the game, I didn't know about New Who until spring 2009 and discovered Eccleston via a search for Classic Who. Much to my surprise was a whole new universe of shows and managed to watch David Tennant's specials as they happened live via internet sources and the Space Channel up here in Canada. (Space Channel has pretty much embraced Doctor Who as the kick ass show it still is, Jodi Whittaker/Series 11 haters be damned). Ya, seasons in Britain tend to be Series instead, but you got it right when you figured Eccleston was Series 1. Eccleston was Series 1 Tennant Series 2 to 4 + 4 specials (each about 60 to 75 min) Smith Series 5 to 7 + 5 specials (Christmas and 50th anniversary specials) Capaldi Series 8 to 10 + Christmas specials Whittaker Series 11 + New years special (hearing rumors lately that series 12 will be her final, too bad if so because it's not her that is bad, its just some bad companions and some rubbish scripts and music. You can tell she channels a lot of David Tennant as they are previous co-workers on another program {Broadchurch I think}, and probably most definitely based alot of her mannerism on him). Anyways, I had no clue as this was even coming, so thank you for this. All I had for Tennant on Blu was the specials they released a few years back. Amazon ordered, Yay!!!
Canada’s Space channel was always really great at embracing Who, and lots of other British programming, too. I remember being jealous when I would listen to podcasts where Canadians could watch the show on the same day that the episodes debuted in Britain. I was doing that too, but I had to be a vigilant downloader to do so.
Just ordered this today, super excited to get it. Eccleston and Tennant are my favorite Doctors. I already have Series 1 with Eccleston on DVD that I bought like a decade ago at Barnes and Noble I think. I did recently try and get all of Tennant on DVD from a pawn shop but the box sets I got for series 2-4 are bootlegs, though the one for the specials seems legit. Needless to say I was really disappointed that I ended up with bootlegs. That's something that I am rectifying with this set, which seems loads better than the DVDs anyway. So yeah once this arrives I'll officially own all of Eccleston and Tennant legitimately. And then as far as I'm concerned my Doctor Who collection will be complete. I'm not really a big fan of the others, especially the newest stuff, can't stand it. But I'm very much looking forward to rewatching all of Eccleston and Tennant.
yes, we are lucky. I remember buying series 2 (Tennant's first series on DVD) and it was great to pick just your favourite episodes from it. ie rise of the cybermen/age of steel. it had the correct logo from the period which I like a lot as each logo I think is synonymous with that doctor so i think even with the new complete collection on blue ray they should have the tv movie logo as it was on the classic DVDs from the 2000s releases as its a good compromise to best represent the brand and be identical which pleases my OCD brain
I got the complete New Who (before Capaldi) on blu-ray for years now 🤪🤣 Yes, it was the Complete Series 1-7, that came with a sonic screwdriver and a big box. Cost me an arm and a leg, but i regret nothing
You’re lucky! And you could sell it for the mortgage on a house now. We were debating that set when it came out since we already had some of the Matt Smith stuff on Blu-Ray, and it was gone before we knew it.
Last December, I purchased the Complete Christopher Eccelston & David Tennant box set on DVD for about the same price. There are no special features or commentaries. I wish I had known then that this was coming out. I probably would have waited.
I feel ya, the announcement kind of came out of nowhere. But it looks like the Christopher Eccleston season is currently not in print on Blu-Ray, so you do have that going for you, which is nice.
The individual Matt Smith seasons are still in print and readily available, though they're not cheap. Roughly 40 dollars per season, which isn't actually all that bad, but the entire Matt Smith collection on DVD is only $25. Such a weird price gap with these shows. And now the entire Tennant series for only 33 bucks. This show needs someone to release uniform seasons at consistent prices.
Why is the first season missing in this set? Am I missing or not understanding something. I never watched Doctor Who but this kinda stuff is totally right up my ally and been wanting to watch Doctor who forever but never know where to start watching. Its so confusing. I think over fifty years of material, tons of different Doctors, spin offs and so on and so forth. I found this set at barns and noble bc it said complete set but I dont see season 1??? You seem like a really cool guy can you help me understand please- does it start on season two and no season 1?.
Let me see if I can help, Fabrizo! Season One of the rebooted Doctor Who starred Christopher Eccleston as the 9th Doctor. Seasons 2-4 and a series of specials starred David Tennant as the 10th Doctor. This set collects all of David Tennant's episodes and specials. The Doctor character can regenerate to prevent death, so that allows new actors to step in, kind of like James Bond. The box set featured in this video collects all of the 10th Doctor. The 9th Doctor's season is available on DVD, but I'm not sure if the Blu-rays are in print anymore. We have a two-part video overview of Doctor Who in which we discuss the show, the Doctors, compare old Doctor Who to New Doctor Who, and discuss collecting Doctor Who. Those may be helpful, and I'll link them below: Let's Talk About Doctor Who Part 1: The Doctors Old and New - ruclips.net/video/GDhf7B-aA0s/видео.html Let's Talk About Doctor Who Part 2: Collecting Who - ruclips.net/video/6UyQZzUFu2g/видео.html
I did not use "internet antenna" (or "magic fairy" as I called it in those days) to watch these originally. I watched them on the original UK vanilla releases. Which came out within weeks of the eps airing. And had vastly superior picture quality to the "magic fairy" versions. And, frankly, far superior the original US releases. Of course, you needed an all region player to enjoy them in the US.
One of my few regrets in my media adventures is not going region free even earlier than I did. 2/3 of my Classic Who collection consists of Region 1 DVDs, but the UK versions are a lot better. I had begun replacing the U.S. versions with the U.K. versions when they started releasing whole seasons on Blu-ray.
I love the background theme played in the scene selection menu for sereis 2 (first couple of discs in the collection). Im having trouble finding it's name though. Can anyone help?
Can anyone give me the rundown of what’s on the 2008-2010 Specials discs? I got the steelbook but as it’s apparently region locked, I can’t watch them. Hoping to swap discs and keep the steelbook, donate the rest.
I believe the Specials discs from the new set are essentially the same discs from the previous Blu-ray release. Here's a rundown of everything on them: www.blu-ray.com/movies/Doctor-Who-The-Complete-Specials-Blu-ray/8053/#Review
Well, it was for several years (four or five) but now it looks like it’s gone out of print. You can find used copies and may can find a new copy somewhere. Hopefully they will reissue it soon.
Yup. I remember seeing it at a Best Buy once for a reasonable price. Figured I'd wait for it to go lower, since I already had the DVD set...not a smart choice. ;) Search "B01A53Q9LU" on Amazon...It's going for more than the whole Tennant series.
Mine is coming tomorrow. Tennant is my second favorite Doctor as well. Although Jon Pertwee (my first) is my favorite! But you said it best. The David Tennant era is one of the most magical in the history of the show.

Shortened.
My set should be arriving in the mail today
Tenant was great, and the way he could flip a switch and get real scarry.
Yes! Good point on calling out how mercurial he could be. The series 3 episode "Family of Blood" shows the darker side of Tennant.
Cool video and blue rays and I gave you a like
