I like the way Rose interacts with him in these clips. Everyone else around him is off put, shocked, or annoyed. Rose has a way of laughing things off, being patient, and engaging/ encouraging with his stream of thoughts. This is part of why she's my favorite companion.

The thing I like is how well his neurodivergency is written, especially in the early 2000's where neurodivergency was still considered a taboo subject. And its not even a one-off thing that only shows every few episodes. 10 being neurodivergent shows in almost every episode and it's really cool to see.

I'm pretty sure every Doctor is some variant of neurodivergent. Probably on account of him literally not having a human brain, it'd be ridiculous for us to expect him to think and behave exactly like a human.
That said, I think he's also probably neurodivergent by Time Lord standards.

@@islagurney3272 I thought so too, tho honestly I also wouldn't disregard the option that it's just a masterclass in acting.
Basically either Tennant was born to play this role, or his long history of being a fan of the show and a remarkable actor enabled him to make his portrayal so effective.
Whatever it is (I'd argue it's probably a bit of both), it sure does wonders for the characterisation. ^^

I have to admit it’s kinda fascinating that you have characters like the Doctor and Sherlock Holmes who are never outright stated to be neurodivergent, but were clearly written with neurodivergence in mind.
I do wonder some times what this tells us about representation of being aneurotypical before it even really became discussed, especially being autistic myself.

I love this. I feel like not many people realize how to understand him. It's hard to explain, really, but.. this video could explain it very well. A lot of these traits are the reasons why I adore him, in spite of one being that I am obsessed with David himself and his mannerisms and such; but the 10th Doctor is really different. He's brilliant! I love to understand him. I love to understand 11, too, these two are my ultimate favorites. I hate to see 10 frown. David's frown is so painful. His crying, 10's/David's in general, hurt the most. He might be complex but I absolutely adore him for this, I love to get him. He's a mood sometimes too, and I can't help but to relate to him. It can't be put to words, multiple words, or even thoughts on how much I love 10 and David. Just so much. I can't wait to watch this, and I can't wait to share it to people (Like my mother, who finds him quite excitable and restless, plus hard to understand) but I love him nonetheless. I wish I could be more like him, so upbeat and happy (I ignore his regeneration because it is poison for me.)
    I love this boy.

30:33 Best 5th Doctor (Peter Davison) quote: “Like Alice, I try to believe three impossible things before breakfast.” I think each Doctor has their own sense of adventure. Where 5th is pretty bold and straightforward, 10th encapsulates the excitement and responding you see from neurodivergent people. Really cool!
At first I thought David Tennant was just playing 10th as an intentional eccentric, but comparing this with his performance as Kilgrave in Jessica Jones, I think he might actually be neurodivergent irl. Sure, he’s a good actor and can likely display different neurodivergent aspects at will, but I can really picture it.
Thanks for making such a good video! ❤
P.S. He also plays Mercutio in an audiobook for Romeo & Juliet! Another opportunity for Tennant to show off his skill in comedic dialogue and excessive ranting 😆

The only sad part about this is that neurodivergent people in fiction are worshipped by neurotypicals, but these same neurotypicals are so terrible to neurodivergent ppl in real life. Without even realizing it. I'm convinced that if the Doctor didn't time travel and stayed on Earth for a while like nd humans, he'd get severely bullied and/or else/worse. Which is why he represents hope to many neurodivergent people (especially kids?), he was a new way (fictional but still) of seeing how neurodivergent could live without this part of the world. It will always be so inspiring for some reason.

I've been diagnosed with Asperger's, now ASD generally I guess since I was like 9 or 10. And due to really being unable to mask until I was in highschool, I've been practically openly autistic all my life. I picked up Doctor Who proper during Covid, one of the routines I picked up to keep myself busy and not go insane. And I really liked 10, by far my favourite of the New Doctors. I guess maybe that wasn't coincidental. I liked 13 as well because I felt like she was equally quirky. It's just her episodes were written really badly. Happy to see David and Catherine return to the show, and RTD! I really need to catch up so I can watch 14 and enjoy it like I did 10.

10, 11, 12, 13 at LEAST are all Neurodivergent. I think that's a major reason I love DW so much. I see myself represented in the Doctor, and they don't need to mask their idiosyncrasies to fit in or dumb themself down for anyone. They excel and save the day with their unique view of the world, out of the box thinking, problem solving skills and retention for bizarre information, while also showing that it can be a lonely life when you don't have people around you who really see you or understand and appreciate you at your most authentic. Anyway, I'm glad other people see this too. Thank you

My favourite headcanons ever are the "different types of Autistic" ones. Examples:
-The different doctor regenerations (and most of the companions aswell tbh)
    -The Octonauts
-BBC Ghosts (both the ghosts and Alison + Mike)
    -Aziraphale and Crowley
    -The Ninjago characters
    -The Umbrella Academy MCs
-Pretty much any other SpIn/HF I've had over the years since they can all fit into this tbh
The doctor I've always related to most on an autistic level was the 11th one, but 10th is like a close 2nd, followed by 13th, then 12th, then 9th. I'm still searching for places to watch the old ones for free so I can't rank them :,))
I could rant about my autistic headcanons forever lol, but feel free to share your "doctor who autism (or any other neurodivergence) orders" based on your own traits because I'd love to hear them tbh :DD
