I ordered Season 12 in July 2018. So, of course, I have the first edition. And it was once worth 150 quids.
Cool Collection.👍
Never bothered with the spearhead from space steelbook now I'm on the lookout for it to complete the collection (just need that and Nu Who series 9 to get)
If I was to name the three most expensive items DVD/Blu Ray wise, Speahead from Space steelbook, Series 9 steelbook and The Dalek Collection boxset from Amazon are definitely that, I know Series 9 is a near impossibility, a Facebook group dedicated to dvds and blurays that I Admin even stops accepting posts concerning the selling because its prime targeting for scammers
Nice video, personally I love the Blu-ray limited sets, understand that some people are conscious of the robustness of the sets (not to mention the price!) but I do like a nicely packaged Blu-ray, not just DW but also any vintage TV or film set such as the ones Network put out.
I have a few of the classic steel-books but decided to limit myself to only those with at least 1 missing episode intact. I also spotted that Peter’s name was missing from the box credits for season 2, these box credits seem to be very erratic! an oversight I imagine.
I’d be interested in your opinion on the box cover art? Lee Bindings artwork throughout these sets is fantastic but I’m not entirely convinced on the front cover imagery, the various poses of the Doctor holding something out in his hands just doesn't convince at all!!
Tom Bakes season 12 is the only one that looks natural.
I love the overall consistency in the design but at the same time I do appreciate the notion that the same gesture is getting tiresome even if I’m personally not bothered by it.
And with the new boxset which has been announced today and is available for preorder I love everything but Jon’s face it seems a bit funny to me
Yeah, I’ve pre-ordered too, this box front portrait is the most unconvincing likeness yet. Doesn’t stop me looking forward to the release but it’s a shame Lee Bindings artwork isn’t as consistent as his inner box art work and booklet imagery. Also great to have a ‘firm’ March date from the BBC. Suggests a least three classic releases this year, possible four!
11:07: What kind of issue is that? They simply can't put something on the set which doesn't exist! You should be glad that they at least made a telesnap reconstruction of the missing episode. Otherwise, you would have got the two orphaned episodes only, if you were lucky. They also could have simply left this story out completely.
My thoughts on this are simple really, and have been like this for a long time, that they since around 2014 when they animated Episodes 1&3 of “The Moonbase” they’d effectively expanded the animation range beyond a majority surviving story to 50% surviving which meant that we now had the possibility of seeing “the crusade” and “the underwater menace” with two animated episodes.
Whilst I’m well aware of the reason we haven’t thus far in the guise of the repeated it would be too costly to animate, that argument to me has become more or less a hypocrisy given that from 2019 to 2022 we saw the animation of no less than 5 episodes that have sat in the archives for at least a decade by the time it was all said and done, time and money I felt was wasted there, the money used on those 5 episodes could have brought us around 2-3 more releases before the BBCAmerica funding ended, one of those releases could have and in my and many others opinions should have been “The Crusade” as fans had been after that for a considerably long time.
whilst I’m personally satisfied with the reconstructions, in this case I take umbrage with how it was handled, something I should have clarified better in the video but my thoughts will be expressed more clearly in a later video.
@@that-british-whovian The problem isn't the money, it is the feasibility. In The Crusade, there are so many characters involved in fighting scenes, that is hard to animate. We will face the same issue again with The Highlanders.
And orphan episodes were animated along with lost episode to get a uniform look. That didn't increase the production costs significantly.
