    I tend to use color ramp on constant with pre-existing textures. There's always a lot of improvisation and not one set process, but that's the fundamentals for my method.
    edit: OH, i forgot to mention, I often color-ramp *after* a shader to RGB node to do cell-shading type stuff. (Then I re-apply colors with a mix node or some form of vector math, again, lots of improvisation)
    edit again: oops just realized you have a whole video on cell shading
    edit again again: I'm considering playing around with softness of shadows depending on distance, to emulate the priority artists give to stuff when drawing. So closer things will have softer shadows than further away things

    • @ComfeeMug
      @ComfeeMug  Год назад

      @S41L0R yeah, the color ramp is really useful. I hope it goes well with your experiment with shadow distances, it sounds pretty cool!

      @Kalyptic I'm so glad you asked! It is part of the subject of my next video, but you will basically want to have a default mix color node, a gradient texture plugged into its factor, and two different colors of textures of your choice; one plugged into the A and the other into the B. I may be dumb but i would slow down and not have as many jumpcuts as it took me 4 re-watches to finally get a result that looked like yours. The jumpcuts make it hard to figure out what we are looking at while smooth pans can help people orient themselves so their not lost.
    Like one thing that took me a second to figure out is at 2:30 you told us to duplicate those nodes, okay i got that but then you say just mix them together which is confusing because my first instinct was to go and add a "overlay" node but it wasn't there? But then i realized i had to add a "Mix Color" node and then change Mix to Overlay but that part just got cut out.

    • @ComfeeMug
      @ComfeeMug  6 месяцев назад +1

      @ICE0124 Thank you so much for your input; hearing feedback like yours is super helpful for me to be able to make better content. I 100% agree with you on how the jump cuts and lack of information given for adding a mix color node set to overlay are confusing.

    Thank you so much, this is so cool! But for some reason it works really well on the ball, but when I try to put in on some buildings I downloaded the texture is swirly and super inconsistent and stretched on the buildings. I tried looking it up but I couldn’t find an answer. I tried changing the scale of the texture and that sorta helped but it’s different for every building. Does anybody know what going on? I really don’t want to make a whole city from scratch 😭

    • @ComfeeMug
      @ComfeeMug  11 месяцев назад +2

      @LizTheWritingWiz I'm really glad you like the tutorial! The problem you're running into sounds very interesting. I have run into this problem before, but was able to fix this by changing the vector input on the mapping node from UV to object. That will give it a much more uniform look in case you haven't done that already. To help clarify, the sequence will go like this:
      Texture Coordinate Node [Object Output] -> Mapping node [Vector Input]
      If you have already done that, though, then you may want to place a separate XYZ and math node set to Subtract right between these nodes. It will look like this:
      Texture Coordinate Node [Object Output] -> Separate XYZ [Z output] -> Math Node set to Subtract [Connected to the top input] -> Mapping Node [Vector Input]
      You will want to do this because mapping nodes operate on a single point outwards, stretching the texture to a certain amount the further away it gets from that point. Adjusting the subtract math's bottom value will allow you to change where that point is, making the texture spread much more evenly.
      I hope this helps, but let me know if it doesn't and I will try to help find another way 😊

    • @ComfeeMug
      @ComfeeMug  8 месяцев назад

      @Organical_Mechanical Thank you so much for going through my tutorial and telling me the problem you ran into, I'd love to help 😊 My first thought is that your object may be too big or small, so you may want to scale up or down the voronoi and noise a bit to get the kind of result shown in this tutorial. If that doesn't work, though, it may be because you are using an older version of blender.
      I hope this helps, but let me know if it doesn't and I'll see if there is another way to fix the issue you're running into 😊

    • @OrganicaI_Mechanical
      @OrganicaI_Mechanical 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@ComfeeMug Sadly it doesn't! And I'm on 4-point-something. The voronoi texture stays as an arrangement of super soft radial gradients rather than blotches like you have!

    • @ComfeeMug
      @ComfeeMug  8 месяцев назад

      @Organical_Mechanical Oh, radial gradient you say? What is your mapping node set to? There's a little "Type:" drop down menu at the top of the node that list several different functions as follows:
      Point
      Texture
      Vector
      Normal
      If you're using vector or normal then you will get a radial effect. Point is the best for consistent textures, but let me know if that's the problem or not, cause it may also have to do with the distortion control messing with the scale.

    how do i integrate colors using these nodes?

    • @ComfeeMug
      @ComfeeMug  8 месяцев назад

      @unrealgame192 Great question! You can do this in a few different ways, the easiest of which would be connecting this texture to the B input of a mix color node set to overlay with the color of your choice in the A input. But you can also connect this texture to a mix color's factor, with it left as mix, and choose two different colors in the A and B input. The A input will be effected by the darker values of the base texture, and the B input is influenced by the light values.
      I hope this helps!!

    I don't know why my texture is coming out with the colour pink, but i am mixing this paint texture with others, but idk what to do T-T.

    • @ComfeeMug
      @ComfeeMug  3 месяца назад

      @cuiqic9853 Great question! Blender turns textures pink for two reasons:
      1- Because there is an invalid node connection in your shader.
      Or
      2- Blender can't process the amount of connections your shader currently has.
      I'm assuming it would be the latter, in which case you might just need to simplify your shader a little bit. If you see that you are losing some necessary detail because of this, you can increase the Lacunarity of your vorinoi or noise textures to get that detail back.
      I hope this helps, but let me know if that wasn't the issue and I'll see if I can look into it more 👍

    I understand that you are talking there in your team with each other, but let me ask - how can I apply your nodes to my texture, to my mesh? I have an asset with a bunch of textures, and how can I apply your construction of your nodes to my nodes? Where to start and where to end?
    You can gain a lot of subscribers if you go outside your room and explain how to make an anime with any assets.

    • @ComfeeMug
      @ComfeeMug  Год назад

      @3dd205 Hi, I hope you're doing well 😄 You asked a pretty important question, and I want to help.
      I'm a one person team at the Comfee Mug, and it is my goal for this series to equip blender users with the right set of tools and understanding of nodes to make it easy to create any anime texture from scratch by themselves.
      Now, it's important to note that the methods described in this video are not meant to turn realistic and/or other stylized textures and shaders into painterly anime stylized shaders. But, if you want to mix the techniques I shared with you in this video with an already existing shader or texture, you can use the mix color node to blend the two. I would recommend using the "overlay" function on the mix color node.
      I hope this helped answer your questions, but if you need anything else I will be happy to continue this conversation in my Discord's DMs so I can provide a more specific solution.

      @sargentthecreator5771 Absolutely!! If you mix this texture in before the BSDF you're using for a given shader, perhaps by using a mix color node set to something like overly, multiply, soft light, etc., you can blend this texture into a shader to get the desired effect 😄

    This is nice.
    But also could you just goddam say that IT WORKS ONLY ON A SPHERE. I don't understand why people never talk about this, specially on a video that says "to make anything look painted" (in the description) and that says "I used the exact same setup to make a wall".
    Any different shape, like a plane, and it looks nothing like that.
    Though I thank you for the setting because as I'm not a total beginner I know how to ajust it to get a result that I like. But please if you want to help beginners you should tell them the important things. Like also for example what version of blender you're using.
    It's not bad to say "this works on a sphere but for another shape you'll have to make adjustements that I won't display in this video".
    Otherwise, it's cool. You're pretty positive and really the video is nice and clear.
    Just be conscious that not talking about those issues would discourage people to watch your other videos and you'll miss views. Some people could even consider it as lies, and they wouldn't be totally wrong.

    • @ComfeeMug
      @ComfeeMug  Месяц назад

      @AGKyran Hi there, thank you for going through my tutorial. I hope you're having a good day 😊 I just wanted to reach out and see if I could help you with the issue you might be running into with this node setup.
      To be clear, it does work on any geometrical shape. This is the base node setup I use for every shader on any kind of object, default or fully modelled. And it should be able to work for you on any kind of object as well :)
      So, I just have a couple questions for you to get started.
      1. What version of blender are you using? Sometimes older versions have different effects on nodes, which is a possible reason why it isn't working for you.
      2. Can you describe the difference between the look of this node setup on a sphere versus another object of your choice?
      As I stated in this video, as well as in my comment to you, this node setup will work on anything. So I'm curious to better understand the difference in look that you are seeing.
      I hope I can help you with this, and that we can figure out the issue together so that you can start using this node setup for your models 😁 Hope to hear from you soon! God bless.

    can you export this texture to Unreal Engine?

    • @ComfeeMug
      @ComfeeMug  10 месяцев назад

      @Snu_Snu69 I believe there is a way, but from what I have seen it involves external plugins because the textures native to blender aren't native to UE. That being said, you can definitely convert this to an image texture and unwrap it in UE. That's probably the easiest and fastest way of doing it 👍
